The barred owl babies are getting in one another's way but not seeming to mind. Quite a wingspread on them. One covered the other two with its wings with no problem at all.

Falcon cam up date. Today one of the 4 eggs hatched. One of them pipping meaning one is trying to get out. If all of the 4 eggs are good and hatch the poor parents will be run ragged! I have watched them for several tears and with just 2 of them the parents never have a moments rest. And if they have 4 it will be a real headache for the,.

Watching the peregrine falcon but she won't get up so I can see what she's got going on. She did move a little while she was adjusting her wings, just enough for me to see a small white fuzzy chick under her, but I wonder how many she has.
It sure is windy up there, high above downtown Boise, in her nest box. It looks and sounds cold and that gravel doesn't look too inviting to me . . . but then, I'm not a falcon!

Yes I did see the video. I was referring to the nuthatch nest in my own backyard! They're all gone now and I don't even know just how many chicks were in that birdhouse, but mom and dad were very busy birds going back and forth bring bugs for dinner and taking out the dirty diapers!
Here's an article about how nesting birds deal with baby poo (what I call diapers!). The first time I observed this I was shocked . . . guess I'd never thought about it before.

That peregrine falcon is interesting (sometimes!) to watch. When she left a while ago, she came back shortly, carrying something she caught to eat . . . not sure exactly what it was. She set it down in the gravel and proceeded to tear off a few bites, then flew off carrying her catch with her. A couple of minutes later she came back with it again, had a few more bites and off she went with it again. I've never seen a bird do this before. She never even attempted to feed any to the chicks. Then she came back empty handed and hunkered back down on the chicks, where she is now. ???????? Wonder what she did with the rest of the catch. Hope she didn't drop it on some unsuspecting pedestrian walking in downtown Boise. Maybe she dropped it on someone's windshield . . . that could cause an accident!!
