No, but if it didn't rise or the kind of beer made it taste bitter, it would be a waste of energy and strength I have so little of, and money, of which I have even less.

So, I probably wouldn't make it again if my first guess didn't work out, that's all.

And I'm not a good guesser when it comes to ingredients.

If you decide to use beer, any cheap brand of ordinary beer works just fine. Not dark beer, but something like Miller, or pabst. As for energy and money, very little of either. One bowl, one mixing spoon, one bread pan. other ingredients in a pantry. Any light soda will work. Sprite, 7up, generic of any of them.

Cat is correct an American Pilsner works the best. Although I have found that it works just as well carbonated as flat. There is lots of schools of thought in this. In my experience with the bread machine anyway it didn't seem to matter. Temperature seemed to matter as it cold beer worked better in my glass while I was making the bread and warm beer worked better in the machine. I think it had to do with cooling the yeast.

When I was a kid there was a story about soda bread. I have no idea how I remember this but I looked it up: Only registered and activated users can see links., Click Here To Register...

Sally, is that just a temporary thing?

Perhaps we can add a toaster oven and a perculator to your diggs? :-)

Sally, I know you do miss the things you are use to having. Is there anyway Ann's idea is workable with either the perculator or toaster over?

I put something on in the crock pot this morning. I just saw the recipe and it looked like it would be easy. So yesterday when I went to the grocery store I got all the ingredients and thought I might as well try it.

                    Crock Pot Chicken:
2 lbs chicken tenderloins (I used 1 lb with thought of eating it two or three times)
                    1 cup pineapple juice
                    1/2 cup packed brown sugar
                    1/3 cup light soy sauce

Wash chicken tenderloins and put in crock pot. Mix other 3 ingredients and pour over. Cook on low for 6 to 8 hours.

This was so fast and simple when I put it on today. Just hope it taste good. I got everything for salad yesterday so I could fix that to go with it.

My DD makes that Crock pot chicken!
Loves it and so do the kids.

Yeah Ann, I know-sounds sweet, but it really was not. It was really very good. I had some peas with it.

I also fixed a salad of organic red leaf lettuce and organic romaine lettuce. I cut up a fresh pear and put some almond slivers on top, then I squeezed some fresh lemon on and put some lemon extra virgin olive oil on. I was going to use a little champagne vinegar, but since I had squeezed the lemon on it I didn't think I needed it. It was really good.

Wish I could have gotten some to Sally, or anyone who can't do their own cooking.

It says chicken tenders. I'm assuming chicken breast, cut up, or chicken thighs, bones removed, would work well. This is a sweet sour chicken made easy. I'm going to try it tomorrow, but with chicken breast, and maybe a green pepper near the end of cooking. Then serve over rice...
