At one time I read up on lazy eye (amblyopia). Although it causes the vision in that eye to blur (usually), the other eye compensates, and it isn't regarded as a huge problem--just something that gets noted on a person's medical record.
For those born with lazy eye there are exercises that are supposed to help correct it. I have an impression that the exercises don't work so well with the other kinds of lazy eye.
