That Sam is almost ready to get her chef's cap and apron!

Hope the bandage is bringing some pain relief. Staying off the foot is really important.

I wish I could have seen the x-ray, but just pushing on it, I can pretty much tell where the break is. You know, this is my first broken bone, and at my age. Oh well, now I've caught up with my brother.

He broke his arm playing football as a kid. It was a compound fracture where one end of the bone is sticking through the skin. One look, and he was out until he woke up in a cast. I'm glad mine doesn't require a cast.

I can still drive with it, and get my jeans on over it. That's great. I would be up the creek naked without both!

Howie had a forum full of motherly advice that suggested his ankle was in fact broken. They were right.

:) Howie I hope the doctor gave you crutches so you can stop putting weight on your foot. If you don't baby it now you may pay later with arthritis in that ankle. Jeanie :)

Jeanie, I have crutches, a walker, canes, and even a Hoveround. The trick is getting me to use any of them. Hard headed when I was young, and hard headed even today. Oh well....

                  ((((((Howie HardHead)))))) ~

Here is a fact: the more you strain an injury, the longer it will take to heal. This is an actual proven scientific medical fact.

So, the more you pamper that foot, the faster it will heal and the sooner you will be able to use it and be pain free.

Be hard headed about taking care of yourself, helping your ankle to heal, and being mobile again.

You have two felines dependent upon you for their food and shelter. If not for yourself, do it for them.

They're looking at you, saying, "Yeah, Dad, please take good care of yourself. We don't have thumbs and can't open cans or the fridge."

I don't know where you live, but please don't make me fly back there and force you to use a walking aid!

                  Stay off your foot, Howie!

Rose, I suspect Sam actually has thumbs. She's amazing. But somewhat flighty and irresponsible at times, and she really needs Howie around. So I hope he hovers around or stays around somehow.

Very true what everyone here has been telling Howie. If a bone is broken it needs to knit itself back together, and it can't do that if you keep stressing it by expecting it to bear weight.

Peg, I hope you're among those getting only an inch of snow. You might be popping over to check on Howie and teach Sam how to make toast next, now that she knows all about boiling water. You couldn't do that so easily if you're all snowed in. Dust off those skis, girl.

I got weighed today, and since my last visit before Christmas, I've gained 8 POUNDS!!! (Insert elephant sound) But my eating isn't the cause. And my theory is that the stopping of drinking beer caused it.

I had to stop for a $$ shortage. So without that intake of those calories, the body starts storing the calories it's getting from eating the same food. The body stores the calories because the body thinks it's starving.

Tonight is coffee night, thus I'm staying up at least a while longer. Just looking at these cats makes me sleepy. I've tried to make them coffee drinkers too, but so far, no success.

Well, it's getting hard to type. G'night all!

Friends, Howie has already told us, rather bluntly, that he chooses to not listen to any advice (no matter how accurate it was). So..let's move on from the ankle, shall we? He has all the equipment, he knows what he is *supposed* to do. The more we suggest it, the less he listens, so let it go. Bullheaded would be my description. Won't take advice, particularly from a woman.

I would agree with most of what you said Cat except that statement. The sex of someone giving me advice has nothing to do with how I accept advice, or not. I had a mother, and sister, and grandmother's and aunts in my life, and all passed on their life experiences and stories and advice that I relate to and follow to this day.

I am not Mr. Sexist as you seem to think. I've been an active member of this forum for many years, and have never said or done anything that could be construed as a sexist comment.

You are still looking at the politics post where I simply made a statement of how opinions in this forum seemed to favor HC. (sorry mods, I had to do it once)
And I had the right to state my opinion. Don't try to demonize one statement.

I've been coming here many years like you have. We support, and entertain in our own way. I don't want that to change for either of us. I won't talk about my fracture any more, Okay?

                              Peace!

I for one hope that you do feel free to say more about the fracture. This is something that happened to someone with MS, probably caused by the MS. Fractures are common among us, as are falls. The different ways of dealing with it are of genuine interest to anyone with MS. The fact that you let it go untreated for quite a while (days?) is of interest too.

You deserve a round of applause for actually listening to what people were saying here and consulting the doctor. You even admitted we were right (posts 289 and 290 in this thread). Downright humble, you were.
