Peg, you know Laurellynne well I think and she probably told you that it is not as easy to put together as it sounds like. She talked like she had quite a time with the one in Boone. People were not sure they could come, then they would say they were coming. The hotel she said was new and maybe not quite finished, which didn't help. Anyway, she made a number of trips to the hotel. Then there was the matter of finding things for the people to do that showed up.

I was going to one that they were going to have in Indiana the next year, but that one was cancelled because the lady who was hosting got sick. She actually was at the one I attended, but I can't remember her name. I don't know if that one was held in a later year or not.

Howie, good for you with the electric bill. I am waiting to see what mine will be for the next year. I have it averaged over the year and the year is up in April, so I probably will know soon. I burn my gas logs a lot in the winter and I pay for propane gas which should cut down on my electric, but the propane is more expensive than the electric. I just like the comfort the fire place gives.

The house I grew up in had a fireplace we used all the time. Not for heat, but the tranquility of a fire. Many times, the whole family would be there, and not speaking but now and then, but all eyes fixed on the flames. There's something almost hypnotic about watching the flames. The same is true about a campfire.

You probably all know to do this or have done it, but just in case ...

Check with your utility providers to see whether they offer discounts or special services/programs for Seniors and/or persons with medical or disabling conditions. You might be able to save on your utility bills.

Yesterday, I called our trash pick up company to schedule the pick up of 14 very large boxes, which can't fit into our bins. We have multitudinous deliveries of supplies for Jon and Jim now. I also have Costco stuff delivered. BIG BOXES.

The representative asked if I could break down the boxes and bundle them (tie them together when they are flat). I replied, "I'm a senior citizen, and I have arthritis. I cannot do that. What I can do is put the smaller boxes inside the bigger boxes and take them to the curb."

He was kind and polite and said that would be fine.

I'm learning not to be hesitant about playing the "old and disabled card."

When we need help, we really need it, and we all deserve to receive help. So, don't be reluctant to ask your utility providers for assistance.

My childhood home had a fireplace in it too, and I watched the fire for long stretches of time.

About the Leafwatchers people--wasn't euphoniaa one of them sometimes? I can't remember her real name if I ever knew it but she was quite active around here for a while.

Thanks for that tip Rose, I could use a reduction on my utilities bill.

My weather forecast for here, right now, calls for a 10% chance of rain. It just started pouring so hard I can't hear the TV.

Howie, it was very cloudy here this evening and the wind was blowing a little. I did not see the weather forecast.

Agate, I remember her well on here and have tried to remember if she was at the one I attended and I can't remember. The one I went to was not as large as the one in Boone. There was one they told me in Boston at the Cheesecake Factory I think. It was snowing quite hard and one of the ladies drove from Ohio. She did alright and got back home safely. They got there and they told me there was no sign up where they were to meet and no one knew anyone else, but they all got together and had a good time. I think Bluesky and also XO attended that one. I wonder if Ann did. Maybe the rest of them stayed longer, but this lady must have been anxious to get back to Ohio in a blizzard.

Was she one of the Susans? I think we had 3 at one time. Or was that another board?

Virginia, Willysnout organized the Boston one and it was to the west of Boston, I think. I was reading then. A lurker.

Rose, that's good advice on assistance with the utilities bill. I took advantage of a local program a couple of times here and it was very helpful. I haven't applied in recent years because there's a list of about 8 organizations, and you need to keep calling each of them regularly. You can do that daily for months and nothing happens. They say they'll call you back but they don't, or there's a recording saying they're out of funds.

But if you hit it lucky and happen to call at a time when money is being handed out, you need to go to the organization with some paperwork and wait your turn and apply. But it's often worth the trouble.

I think you're right, Parsi. Wasn't there a thread once asking how many Susans there were here, and it turned out that there were quite a few, and euphoniaa may have been one of them.

ANN, were you one of those rare people who registered here and read the threads for ages before saying anything? I always wished I'd been one of those people because that was probably the smartest way to approach this board.

Others, like me, just couldn't resist a space being made available for us to put words into and went plowing in right away, without enough thought to the ongoing board dynamics.

I did read for a long time, Agate. I have no idea if I registered first.

Sorry--I obviously worded that post badly. It wouldn't have mattered whether you'd registered because anyone can read here, and that was true then as well.

:) I went to Laurel's Boone 1st Leafwatcher's. I also went to Willysnout's (Charlie P) Boston one and Maggie May, LaCeli (Laura), and Pam 's Orlando one.

Susan M was euphoniaa. Susan A, Brenda B, Diane (Deege), Larry NY, Steve L and wife, Meli2, Ruthy, Martha N, Tammy R (specialtomeatz), Salpalsally, Kim W (Tarzana), Vince T & wife, Judy W, Jeanne W & Mother, Donna & hubby are the names I have in my address book but some addresses are no longer good.

I'd like to have a Leafwatcher's here in West Palm Beach, but I don't know if I could handle it all by myself. There is Lion Country Safari here, the Henry Flagler Museum, Worth Avenue and Mar-a-lago but you can't get into it. It would have to be late September or October to be cooler. I will do some calls and see what is available.

My friend from Ottawa Canada left this morning at 5 AM on Air Canada. We had a nice 10 day visit. However I had to wear ear plugs to sleep as she is up and down and noisy all night. I had to keep the alarm off so she could go out on the back porch to smoke.

Each morning she laid out in the sun from 8ish until after lunch. She left here very tan. Yesterday we went to the Lake Worth Beach and ate on the pier. That is the only time I got to pay for anything. She even left a nice note with a fifty dollar bill in it. I felt ill and threw up several times when we got home. My system does not like fried food.

All in all it was a good visit and it was nice to see her after 17 years. She left here because her father was ill and got an apartment and a nursing job there to be able to check on him daily. He died last year. She is just now getting over the worst of that. Talking about him helped her I think. Her father was a perfectionist and put her down a lot even when she was trying to help him. When she left there to come it was 40 degrees below zero. I would not survive that. Jeanie :)
