I may have wrecked my normal schedule. I had a mug of coffee, and as usual, that makes me sleepy, so I thought it might be okay to do a quick nap. And here I am, 5pm and just stirring again. Waking up twice a day is how I double dosed on my meds before.

Sam, why didn't you wake me up? Sam? SAM?

Maybe I just don't find anything spooky but I'm not very surprised that a few people disappeared in an area of Vermont that is fairly isolated. Around here people are always getting lost in the Cascade mountain range. They go hiking or skiing or whatever, wander off, maybe run into a mudslide or fall off a precipice. Some are found, some are never found.

Isn't this something that happens sometimes?

As for the first case in the article,

The first disappearance happened in November of 1945, when a 74-year-old hunter by the name of Middie Rivers was out hunting with a group of four companions in the mountain wilderness near Glastonbury Mountain. As the group was heading back to camp from their excursion, in the Long Trail Road area near U.S. Route 9, Rivers strayed ahead of the group and proceeded to simply vanish. A thorough search of the area turned up only a single shell from the hunter’s rifle near a small stream. Although Rivers had been coming along in years, both the hunters and authorities alike were nevertheless perplexed as to where he could have gone, since he had been an extremely experienced hunter and woodsman and he had been very familiar with this particular area, a place he had hunted in many times before. It was speculated that Rivers may have leaned over at the stream and the shell had fallen out of his pocket, but other than that it remains a complete mystery as to what happened to him and he has never been seen again, seemingly engulfed by the forest itself.
--I don't know but a 74-year-old guy hunting with 4 pals might have had a few drinks while on his outing and just might have fallen into the water and drowned, and nobody ever found the body because they didn't look in the right place.

Or he might have fallen into the water and drowned even without the few drinks.

But I've taken Bennington,VT, off my list of places to visit on my next trip.

I have spent many happy weekends in Bennington. Very beautiful and quaint. I remember driving up a mountain to go swimming. It did not make sense to me but there at the top was a leveled off parking lot and a concession stand. Parking was $1.

The pond was at the bottom of a long grassy slope. The slope was where folks put their towels. I'll never forget that spot.

Or his four "pals" killed him, buried the body, then got their story together so they all said the same thing.

:) That reminds me of the Bermuda Triangle in the Bahamas. Years ago when we were sailing between Cat Cay and Nassau we had read in the book about ominous storms that come up quick.

The sky in front of us turned black then like drawing a drape it expanded on each side until we were in the middle of it. The wind was howling and it was raining hard. There were 7 of us on board. All went below. I put on a rainsuit and lashed myself in the cockpit topside lying down. We had put anchors out fore and aft. It was very scary.

Everyone below was throwing up in pots and pans. My Mother was saying the rosary. We felt sure we might disappear like the other Bermuda Triangle cases. Finally the storm ended and we headed back to Cat Cay as the whole cabin needed cleaning and the carpet washed.

We did not laugh at the word ominous anymore. On several trips over there we had some other weird things happen. One night I was asleep in the cockpit topside and looked up to see a man standing over me in a boat pulled up to our side. I sat up and he rowed away. Eerie feeling.

I was naive in 1972 and when I went up to the hotel to call home, a man came up and asked me if I wanted Coke. I said no thanks I drink diet cola. He probably was surprised. Jeanie :)

Mr. Fixit is at it again.

I had the bathroom light go out. I checked the bulbs, no. I checked the fuse box. No. So the only thing left was the actual switch on the wall where you turn it on-off.

Got the face plate off, and used the flashlight to look at the connections on it. Poked each with a screwdriver, and BINGO, the lights came on. Just a loose wire, tightened it down, faceplate back on, and done.

I'm done for the day other than make a meal later.

                    Sam, put the tools away!

The screwdriver has a plastic handle which electricity can't travel through. Then to be safe when I tightened that screw down, I hit the main circuit breaker, so no electricity in the whole house. That's why I used a flashlight.

Electrical work is like using guns. Safety is always first!
