While there i spoke to the mgr about how to make the locker room better for handicapped swimmers who do not use a wheelchair. And the parking lot. He was receptive. It’s a govt run pool.
I hope your comments will yield some good results.

When I was swimming, I thought the lighting could have been much better in the locker rooms. I went to two different community pools, and in both of them had dimly lit locker rooms. Not fun when you're groping around for your belongings in the small dark space of your locker. Or you don't see something you've dropped and then you trip on it.

The "pool" is behaving poorly. Manufacturer recommends water change every 3-4 months but with only one person (me) using the pool for exercise, we have often extended that to 6 or more months. We have been having trouble with water clarity for a couple of months now....since before the holidays....but I was really too busy to get in and use it for the past couple of weeks. What we found was that there was a film over the entire surface of the spa that was not being cut by the maintenance chemicals so we drained it a few days ago, scrubbed, wiped down, dried and refilled it and I have been in it the past two days for exercise but it is so cloudy now I am not quite sure where to go. How many of you have a spa that you use for exercise? Do you have issues with water cloudiness? How do you deal with it. This has been a problem off and on since I stopped using it when I went back to work about 3-4 years ago and drained the pool and closed it up. When reopened, the filters were full of mold as was the cover. Both needed replacing. I have been using an algicide off and on since and we are still having problems with clarity. Suggestions?

If it has had mold in it, would it be a good idea to get a professional take a look? I don't know anything about them, but mold from any source scares me.

Def have a pool pro look at it.

Today I swam 1/2 mile again in an 80F pool, air twas 68f. Swam 26 minutes. Tomorrow and following day will be too cold to swim

As I was sitting under the shower, trying to take off the wetsuit, got that familiar feeling in the right lower leg that it was thinking of spasm. ( i hate Stiff Person Syndrome.)

Oh dear, that would not do. I was 20 steps from my emergency med and cell. Alone in locker room. Really didn’t want to have to scream. So I skipped the shower, walked to the bench, sat down and told myself to stop shivering as it was tensing up the leg.

Was able to pull off the wetsuit over the leg without triggering a spasm.

Gotta figure out this wetsuit problem, it’s the sticking point in winter swimming.

Glad you escaped a crisis, BBs. What is the emergency med?

Tizanidine. Doc said to take 8mg right off the bat in a spasm crisis.

I have an old wetsuit. I think I will cut the legs off to the top of the thighs, that will make it easier to pull off.kind of like using it just as a top, but with short shorts.

I have a stretchy pair of 2 mm SUP pants that aren’t hard to pull off. I can wear it over the short shorts if it’s too cold to swim with legs exposed.

Yesterday I went to the ocean with my support crew.usually I use the wheelchair to get down the boardwalk and dunes.

I walked with my surf board under arm the whole way:@ a 3 minute walk. Since it was just too darn cold to even get wet, as the ocean was 63 and the air was 56, I had extra muscle performance available and was able to walk unassisted the 3 minutes back. It felt like a victory. Usually the only exercise I can tolerate is in a pool or ocean. Walking more than a minute typically is not going to work.

Well, there were a handful of brave souls out there. They didn’t stay overly long. They got out with red feet and red hands.
, shivering and laughing. The waves weren’t bad, but not good enough to call me in:)

One buddy got out and was bleeding on his foot. I said,”You’re bleeding”
He said, “hm. I fell off the board and didn’t hit the bottom but bumped up against something heavy and sharp. I told myself that if I am bleeding it was probably a shark”

There were lots of man o wars all over the shoreline. They sketch me out. Give me a shark any day, but keep your man o wars.

We were celebrating two of the crews birthdays. It was nice we had some leftover surf muffins to feed the hungry dudes.

Today I swam in th pool only 550 Yards, 14 minutes. I had left something in the car and thus had to walk an extra minute befor swimming. At 525 Yards, my thigh muscle started to stiffen, so I stopped.,

Wondering how Howie's pedometer is working out?

                        Pedometer readings for me lately:

                        1/20/18 - 554 steps
                        1/19/18 - 1584 "
                        1/18/18 - 827 "
                        1/17/18 - 813 "
                        1/16/18 - 1283 "
                        1/15/18 - 1212 "
                        1/14/18 - 851 "

You are outdoing me. I won't even post my numbers. Your lowest number is about my daily number. I did have a good number on my shopping day, but once that's done, the rest of the week is pitiful. But now I know what I'm doing compared to you, The Steps Queen!

It would be interesting to know what that "good number" was on the shopping day....

I think I forgot to wipe the previous number out, and put the new number on top of the day before number. I was like 1070, but even though I walk to, and out of the store, it still seemed too high.

I have the pedometer set to 0, and have to go to the dump, bank, and store tomorrow, so I'LL see how high it goes, and start again tomorrow. If it's high like it was, then I'll start recording it again. Deal?

I think I have deduced the problem. Jet clean, which is run through the pool for the 15 minutes to half hour prior to shut off and empty, is a very slippery and cloudy cleanser. David used the same hose to empty then refill the pool so it had jet clean in the hose and he only ran clear water through for a minute or so prior to running the hose into the pool to refill. I think the problem is that I have some of the cleaner still in the water and it is getting a bit better every day but is still not at a point where I can get in and work out. Working on it and waiting (a bit less than patiently).
