Virginia, I'm guessing that Jeanie wouldn't have any problems getting used to an iPad. If I can use an iPad, she can. There are a couple of little adjustments to make but they're easy enough. I don't like writing messages on an iPad but it can be done. At least she could play games and read on her favorite Websites. I hope this one is one of her favorites of course.

If they have iPads available where she is, and she can request one, I'm pretty sure that someone on the staff would be willing to show her a couple of things about how to get started on it.

I will certainly inquire if I am able to get back in contact with her after they remove the screws from her leg. She said that leg and her arms need therapy. I do think Jeanie is pretty capable of speaking up for herself. Having been a nurse they usually are because they know how things are supposed to be done. Yesterday she had someone bring her a blanket and they did. She told me that she just had to have something over her legs.

Virginia, I am always happy to hear the news here. I’d like to know how everyone is doing. What’s up with Jendi and Linda and Ssusan, for instance.

And while your doing sleuthing, can you get an address for cards to Renee? Or maybe you could, Agate?

I’m really MS- tired these last few days.

Perhaps Jeanie doesn't know that iPads and computers are available for patients in her rehab. Or, it might be a "luxury" item, which would not be covered by insurance and would be too expensive for her.

Since the rehab states that it does offer iPads and computers, I would hope that they would have someone on staff willing to assist/teach patients how to use them.

Jonathan had a rod and pins in his right leg from a hip fracture in 2005. I think the pins/screws are necessary to keep the rod in place. Jon's entire surgery only took 45 minutes (he was in ICU at the time), with minimal blood loss. So it is possible that as an outpatient, Jeanie could have the pins/screws replaced. If they can take them out, then it seems they should be able to put new ones in.

I do hope that a physician visits Jeanie occasionally. She has a right to know everything about her condition.

Thank you for keeping us apprised of her situation. I pray that you are feeling better and more balanced.

I interpreted your comment about avoiding the news as related to current events, rather than the news we share here on the forums. I certainly understand that approach, because the current event news is more frightening every day.

Today, I was heartened by the crowd gathered to pay tribute to RBG in front of the Supreme Court. They chanted "Vote him out!" and "Honor Her Wishes," as you-know who stood near her casket wearing a mask pretending he cared. He will never know the love, respect, and admiration RBG has, which is one reason, I believe, as to why he behaves as he does.

Prayers for you that your MS-tiredness subsides soon.

I join you in missing many of our MS friends, as I also miss my CN friends too.

Ann, I wrote that tongue in cheek because of all that is going on away from here. I guess I forget that people can't read my expression as I try a little dark humor over the internet. However, even I can't make people magically appear, so we will all have to just wait for the ones who have not been on for awhile to reappear and hope that they do. Agate would probably be the person to speak to about Renee, however since Renee is in a nursing facility we really don't know what her situation is as far as how often she uses the internet. We do know her sense of humor is still in tack, which very much makes her Renee.

Hope you get over your tired spell real soon.

To bring y'all up to date on my washer and dryer. I ordered it on August 6th thinking it would be delivered the next week. I got a call that it would be delivered on September 26th. Today I had a message that it has been delayed and will be delivered October 30th. Mine works fine now that I had a fuse replaced in my dryer, however I had decided since I had paid for it to take the new ones and let my Niece and her husband have my old ones free. They are buying a house at the beach.

I called to tell my Niece and I dreaded doing it because they are closing this week-end. She told me not to worry that her real estate lady had said that the people they are buying the house from said they would like to leave their washer and dryer there. She says she thinks they need cleaning up.

Tomorrow I am going to call Home Depot and try to get a refund. It was almost $1600.00, so I will be most happy to get my money back. I think they should refund it and probably will without any problem. Just glad my Niece had another option. I was going to go ahead and get it (assuming I ever can) and still give them mine, but now I can get my money.

Virginia, under the circumstances I think you should get a full refund on the washer/dryer purchase. They're making you wait a very long time, and I think the customer usually has the option of cancelling for a refund. In fact, many businesses don't even charge you until the items have shipped, and so it isn't as if they'll need to do a lot of paperwork.

I'll try asking renee for an address. I have an impression she's a fairly private person and might not want to give it out, but maybe it will cheer her just to know that people here would like to send her a card.

Oops on me missing the humor in your post!

I hope that the refund on your washer and dryer will be easy to accomplish and quickly settled.

                    MY UPDATE

John brought his car on Wednesday and parked it on the driveway. Then, I tried twice to park the van next to it. Even with John guiding me, I didn't do well. So, now I'm grounded.

"Rose," John sighed. "I watched you in that giant van, and you are just so tiny to be driving that thing. And if you can't park it next to the car, then, it isn't safe for you to drive it."

Meanwhile, we are scouring the DMV for information about what is required for me to donate the van. It does have to have a smog check. It appears that I will have to give the DMV Jim's death certificate, although my name is also on the Title, and have a form notarized.

I decided to donate the van to a Veteran's organization. Jonathan, Michael and Jim have Warrior (Native American) urns, befitting of their valiant battles. I'm sure they agree that donating our van to a Veteran is a meaningful way to thank that Veteran for his/her service.

John assured me that whatever I need, he will bring it to me, and wherever I have to go, he will take me there and go through it with me. "If you have an emergency ..."

"I'll call you or 911. Both, actually."

It's fine. I only drive once a month to go to the local ATM and around town to give the van an outing. The same will be true with the car. John emphasized that any legal things, or talking to the Veteran's organization on the phone, etc., he will be with me.

That afternoon it was about 90 degrees, and I was outside, standing, walking, and in the sun too much. "I'm melting, John," I uttered, as I sat in the garage on Jim's big, sturdy tool box. I had planned to drive him home in the van, but since I couldn't park it, he called his daughter to pick him up.

I continue to have spider (I think) bites, which seem to come out of nowhere. I wore long sleeves and gloves to take out the trash bins this morning, and I have bites on my arms. I'm getting quite fed up with this.

So, today, I stripped the bed and washed the sheets, then put them back on, after I swiffered and vacuumed the entire living room. It's a queen size with a heavy mattress. I pulled out one of Jim's guitars, which has been under the futon for 2 1/2 years. I didn't see spiders, but the dust was ridiculous.

Jim's other guitar in a corner plus a few other dust-gathering things found new locations. All outside on the patio, except the guitar. I cleaned the case and put it in Jon's room.

I looked for spiders everywhere, but I didn't see any. Something is biting me! What is this?! Ack! I just hope my cleaning puts an end to it, even though right now, I'm in pain, and I suspect I will be in more pain tomorrow.

Thank you for your friendship. My prayers for all of you continue. Stay Strong.

                    Love & Light,

                    Rose

It sure is quiet in here today. Oh, that's right, it's Friday, and the DH always takes you out to dinner on Friday, or something like that. Enjoy!

I was in a festive mood myself, and ordered a delivery from Pizza Hut today. I got a sub and a salad, and ate both completely. It was so good, got here really fast, and hot.

It was nice to have a meal that I didn't have to fix myself. I can only afford to do that but maybe once a month, but they have a huge menu, so I'll get something new each time.

My brother usually calls on Friday, but not always, and he sent an email that he wasn't calling this week which I really appreciate hearing ahead of time so I don't spend the day waiting.

I also talked to my new doctors office, and they got my medical records from my old doctor, and would call when they had gone through them.

So I'm ready to Trek out as I get to do 6 nights a week. Once a Trekie, always a Trekie.

Everyone have a great evening and weekend!

Howie, I am so happy that you treated yourself to a special supper. Good for you!

I made stuffed Delicata squash for part of dinner. This was a Delicata that was more of a pumpkin shape. I sliced it in half, took the seeds out and filled the cavities with breadcrumbs mixed w Romano cheese and onions and herbs then I baked it in a toaster oven. It was delicious.

My wrist/hand problem is gradually getting better but I'm trying not to overdo. I found that I can still do many things with my left hand as I had to do for 8 weeks when the right wrist was in a cast--and I've discovered a site called windowswap where you can see the view from other people's windows all over the world and hear their birds (and their traffic sounds) and see their cats on their windowsills. It's interesting and keeps me from using my right hand.

Yesterday I did something I've been thinking about doing for weeks but what with the fires and the weather, it wasn't possible. I actually ordered a few cookies from my DIL's bake shop. The bit of business should help her somewhat (every little bit helps) but it was a very minimal order because her baked goods are out of my price range, and I don't usually buy such things.

But I did want to do something for the people here, anonymously, as I know they are hurting now, with long waits for the elevator they depend on and no more monthly meetings, no more mobile library, no more home haircuts or mani/pedicures, and most of all no more rooms where they can play cards, do puzzles, have potlucks, be on a computer, watch TV, hold private parties. There were people here who made frequent use of all of those possibilities.

So when I found out that the cookies were about 4" in diameter, I decided to cut 4 of them into quarters and leave them out for people to sample. Yesterday I did that, and it went smoothly. They arrived in an attractive little box, and I cut them and put them back in the box and put them out where people leave food they want to share. It's an informal arrangement here, against the rules, and so it happens when the management isn't around. Friday evening seemed like a good time.

The cookies and box were gone a few hours later.

Oh, and I kept a quarter of a cookie to sample. I had half of that yesterday and am looking forward to the other half today. My DIL is actually doing this in spite of the COVID-19 restrictions. I was able to place the order and pay online, and a delivery time was given, and the delivery happened pretty much as scheduled. I admire my DIL for launching this venture even though there's a little one at home. She has several people working for her and it seems to be going along well enough so far.

And I recently watched a 6-hour documentary that is available as streaming--It wasn't exactly cheerful but was very informative. It's called "Near Death" and was made in 1989, filmed at Boston's Beth Israel Hospital medical intensive care unit.

Still making hats. Last year I made 30. This year I don't know how many I've made but I have two boxes full of them.

That's what's going on here aside from the rain that is very very welcome.
