MaryLiz, how are you doing without Copaxone? Since it's not available where you are, can you switch to another DMD that might be? Or take a drug holiday and see how you are doing without. People have gone off and discovered that their condition has stabilized. Wishing you well.
Gary, isn't it the cold that kills off the bugs, not the snow. I would think a cold snowless winter then would be better than a warm snowy one for bug control. Of course it would be disastrous for the water situation next year.
Parsi you are correct however the snow melts and freezes causing the eggs and larvae to explode. I had a big argument with my son about this (he has a B.S. in biology) and I LOST.
It is 6 deg this morning and there is a 15 mph wind blowing so it is 13 below. Santa must of had his long johns on. We had some hunters knock on the back door this morning they had been duck hunting on the river and their boat motor broke down . They actually asked permission before taking their truck and trailer down below our back 80 to retrieve their boat! I offered to pull them on the bank with a tractor they said they could get it. Thankfully, as I only have one tractor with a cab and it is not plugged in so it would never start. Buzzing along on an open air tractor would not be a whole lot of fun.
Christmas started in this house on the 24th after the sun set and will continue till Epiphany which, this year, is set for January 9th. So the tree and decorations remain up and the wise men move closer to the stable daily while the shepherds depart. We continue to have guests for holiday festivities till after the tree comes down in a couple weeks.
Thursday we head for family in Upstate NY to celebrate Mom and Dad's 60th anniversary. All 7 of their children with spouses or SOs will be there. 14 of their 19 grandchildren (most with spouses or SOs) will be there and 12 of their 18 great grands plus 2 in utero will be there as well as three of Mom's living siblings and my Dad's only sister's 4 children and their spouses and some of their children and grandchildren. It's a party for immediate family only and there will be probably 60 people there. We're doing pot luck in the parish hall of my parent's church. So far only a few inches of snow but 5 of the next 8 days have snow in the forecast. There was a blizzard the day they were married (1/4/52) and a blizzard the day of their 50th so we will plan for the best and prepare for the worst. Heather and her boys are driving up with us. Becky and her family will be with family in VT and unable to make it due to having to be back for Greg's work on the 31st.
We have family coming in from NC, Alaska, RI, VA, OH and all over NY.
Eye is calming considerably with the new gel wetting drops but I still cannot read with either eye without store bought readers. My left eye (the one that was done) was my dominant eye and the one I could read with. So...I imagine that when the right eye is done things will level out so that I will need plain old cheap reading glasses for both eyes.
:) Hi everyone. Gary I would not survive one of your Winters. When it goes below 68 I start to shiver. Even in the Summer I sleep in a jacket with a blanket.
David went to the VA today and had mouth Xrays and a stress test. He is to go on the 11th at 6:30 in the morning and the VA transport will take him to Miami for Nuclear medicine there. I could go with him if I can climb the steps and use a manual wheelchair and I said I could. However they called back and said on the transport Veterans have priority and now there is no seat available.
I really wanted to be with him, but I am afraid to drive to Miami by myself and try to find the hospital. I will stay home and wait for David to call me on his cell phone.
David heard today that if he winds up having a liver transplant he will go to Pennsylvania for it and afterward for awhile. I really hope it can be done close enough for me to drive there. All my flying trips with a scooter have been disasters.
We did go Sat up to Mothers. No tree or anything. My brother had gotten her a tree but not put it in the house. She did not want it put up Christmas day so it went in the trash. My brother was suposed to pick up the dinner at Publix and bring it at noon Christmas to be cooked 1 and a half hours. Well he showed up about 2 PM. We finally had dinner 6ish. We left Mon about noon.
It was 6 hours up and 5 hours back. Today I mainly rested to recoup while David went to the VA. All prayers are appreciated, thank you all. Jeanie :)
Jeanie,
I know how exhausted and concerned you are. I'm glad this community is here for your support. We really do care.
David and I, along with Heather and her two boys will drive the 357 miles to my family's farm in Upstate NY in the morning to celebrate my parent's 60th wedding anniversary this weekend. All 7 of their children will be there as well as 14 of their 19 grandchildren and 15 of the 20 great grands. Simple pot luck in their church hall Saturday afternoon with what looks to be around 60 immediate family and about three friends. Our neighbor is tending to our cat and house while we are gone. No snow here yet although there have been flurries but there's a little less than a foot there with more in the 5 day forecast so the kids will have snow to play in.
Given all that's happening ion the next three days, I may not be online much. Blessings to all and may your 2012 be healthy and prosperous.
If it is the airline messing with your scooter... have you ever encountered any of the businesses that rent scooters
etc. with pickup at the airport and dropoff at airport when you leave? Intriguing.
