OK, I'm setting up my order for my next train trip. I'll have southern fried chicken with corn on the cob, maybe with a side order of BBQ ribs.

With luck I won't have to ask for a finger bowl.

I don't know if that's the southern fried chicken I ordered but it could be gooey enough for the fingerbowls anyway.

I wanted the individual pieces that are dipped in batter and then fried, and you hold them in your hands to eat them while your hands get all covered with oily stuff.

Colonel Sanders doesn't have finger bowls, probably. Isn't the motto "It's finger-lickin good"?

The people who would lick their fingers after eating fried chicken aren't in the same class at all as those of us who use our finger bowls....

Every time I hear Colonel Sanders mentioned I think about my youngest brother. When he turned 14 he went out and got a job after school and on week-ends to save money for a car. He went to one of the Kentucky Fried Chicken places. This was back when they were very, very big and Colonel Sanders was going from restaurant to restaurant to check on his empire. My brother had been raised going to Sunday School and Church (not that he was so perfect) and he was shocked to hear the Colonel cussing every time he stopped by. My brother said he would say G.D. loud over the smallest thing that he didn't like. As a young 14 year old he thought the Colonel was mean.

--And now G.D. is one of the mildest things people say. I'm not saying it's good or bad--just saying that customs have changed, and you're hearing language you never heard a few decades ago.

Gosh Ann, they were made right here in N.C. Since my family members are all so big on golf guess I will print this out and take it to them.
Now they eat the balls as well as play with them.

Printed the article and took it to restaurant for my brother to see, but he said he saw it on the news last night. He said it was very dangerous and they were really trying to warn people.

This video has so many good ways of dealing with an avocado that I just had to post it. He's using a special knife but any good sharp knife of the right size would surely do:

Frozen meals can get monotonous, and sometimes there are packaged dinners that work well instead.

I just found a veggie soup mix that is a whole meal--190 calories per 1-cup serving, total fat 1g, 0 sodium, carbs 36g, fiber 13g, protein 11g. Its ingredients are green and yellow split peas, barley, lentils and vegetable pasta, with very little else. The vegetable pasta was a surprise because it's shaped into letters--so it's alphabet soup though the label doesn't mention that.

You just add water and stir and heat it up. I added some seasoning.

There are some nutritious soups out there.

Agate, is this frozen, in a can or does it come in just one of those dried packages?

It's just a package, not frozen, weighing 28 oz. but it's 15 servings.

Has anyone tried jackfruit? This doesn't appeal to me but someone here may have tried it and can describe it as delicious (from Nutrition Action):

Jackfruit is the meatless case’s latest craze.

Cooked unripe (green) jackfruit has a stringy texture somewhat like pulled pork (or artichoke hearts). But with only 1 or 2 grams of protein per 3 oz., it’s more like a vegetable than a stand-in for meat. On the upside, it’s low in calories (about 30, before you do anything with it) and high in fiber (around 5 grams).
Our advice: start with unseasoned Trader Joe’s Green Jackfruit in Brine. Just rinse off the brine, shred, and sauté with your favorite sauce or seasonings.

My mother likes fruit cake. Does anyone recommend one that I could take to her or send?

                              Thanks,

It's been years since I've had fruit cake but I found these favorites online--apparently they're still around.

Collin Street Bakery puts out a good fruit cake, IMO. Also, Claxton fruit cakes are really unusual and good.
