That feels a little risky to me, I prefer a barrier of a credit card or paypal between a transaction and my money (unless it's in person), not sure I'd feel comfortable with so many unknowns being involved in a stranger, with no bricks and mortar or way to track down or authentic them, having direct access to my bank account with no safeguards or protections in between.

I agree with SuzE-Q. I try not to use my debit card anywhere online. For a grocery order I use it but now that I have a different arrangement for groceries, I write those people a paper check instead of giving them any account numbers. When I place an online order from Safeway, I could use a credit card but the debit card is more convenient because I'm notified when I've been charged and how much the charge is. That's how I can be sure that the order has been shopped and should be delivered. Once they have my money, they almost have to deliver my groceries--though once or twice an order has been a day or two late because of the weather.
It's me Sally to let you all know that l won't be here anymore. Don't send the Calvary. I'm ok just can't handle the net anymore. Don't worry I'm fine. Love you and prayers for you every day.
Oh Sally, I am so sorry you're unable to participate online anymore. Thank you for checking in though. You've been on my mind.
I have a debit card, but have never used it except as a tool to access cash at an ATM. Our bank is in a town 45 miles away, so I need to "hit up" ATM's to get cash. Otherwise I use a credit card--which gets paid off in full at the end of each month. There are a couple of businesses in our small town that don't take credit cards, so there I either write a check or pay cash. There is an ATM card just 2 miles away that dispenses cash without any fees, so we go there as needed..get gas for the car (it's a gas station/convenience store), and get cash. I've been buying stuff on line for years, and only once had an issue-- the credit bill came in, I didn't recognize the seller. The credit card company stopped payment, followed up, got back to me -- it was something I bought on eBay, and the seller used her husbands account, which I didn't recognize.
I don't see the theory behind the debit card -- the money comes directly out of your checkbook...so why not write a check? Easier to keep track of: note the check number, write the check, compare at the end of the month. With the debit card you have to hang on to a bunch of receipts in order to check the statement. Anyway, I read that we're moving ever closer to a check-free cash free society...I probably won't be around long enough to experience that totally.

I have just the ATM on my bank card. No debit. I asked the bank to send me a card without the debit. I understand that in the wrong hands, your account could be wiped out.*
I pay w credit card (paid st end of the month or a check).
Cat, the debit card is the easiest thing to use. If I write a check, my hands do not work well and before I get through so many people are lined up behind me that I am embarrassed. With debit card it is so quicker than a credit card because you do not have to sign receipt. I can look on line and see what I spent and where as soon as I get home. It is there instantly, so no saving receipts unless I am somewhere that I think I might take something back.
This ignorant fool had to look up the difference between an ATM card and a debit card. I thought they were the same thing!
I doubt that I've ever had an ATM card. I haven't been near an ATM in about 20 years. But when I was still using them very occasionally, I used my regular debit card.
It is nervewracking to be out in the open with people coming up behind you--I remember that part.
Agate, I use the ATM in the bank or at the bank that is within our grocery. It beats standing in line at both places. Oh, and I was a late adopter of the ATM card. I can hear myself spouting many reasons not to use it. It turned out well. :-)
I still don't use the ATM: Never took the time to learn. I use the debit card for purchases at stores and some recurrent payments online. Sometimes I get confused counting money (going back and forth with different currencies doesn't help). Also I don't have the patience to write out checks: I get nervous that people behind me are waiting. And some stores offer the option of cash back so I rarely go to the bank itself.
I'm finally back online via a laptop at home. My laptop has some issues and I tried to buy a replacement AC charger for getting the battery recharged. The place I ordered it from sent the wrong kind with no packing slip, so I can't contact the company. Tom will have to call Discover Card Services to get his money back.
On my Tom front, he is having so many difficulties as a result of the cancer that he wants to take advantage of Washington state's Death With Dignity Act. If his oncologist approves, he'll only live until March 12th or so. The 12th is exactly 2 weeks before my birthday. I'm heartbroken, but I also don't want him to continue wasting away as the shell of the man he used to be.

Jendie, it is so very sad. My husband did not have that option and I do not know if he would have taken it if he had. Still, I was so much more selfish than you. You are looking at it from a totally selfless attitude and I admire you so much. With all you have got going on you must be a very strong person.
I wish there was something we could say or do to make it better, but sadly there isn't.
