That was nice of them, Virginia. You must have added something to the group if they're now bringing gifts, along with the books to entice you back!

Agate, Jendie, are you happy with your places? Are they a reasonable size? Is it mixed market with rent geared to income, or no market rentals mixed in?

    Parsi, are you back yet?

    Happy Day to all!

Agate's sounds compact and kind of like easy living should be. Jendie has not said a lot and Renee use to complain about her place a lot, but was hoping to get a better one - still same deal, but different area. There was one lady that use to be on this board and I can't remember her name. Anyway, she and her sick husband lived in a regular apartment. He was in a wheelchair and she had MS, and the residents still would not leave them enough space to park their vehicle within reasonable distance of the apartment. Plus some people next door smoked heavily and the smoke use to come into her place. I wonder what happened to her? I kind of think her husband might have passed away. She was my age or maybe even a year older. Anyone remember?

Virginia, I don't remember the woman who used to post about her husband who had MS but I do recall a couple of situations like that here, where a spouse was posting on behalf of the person with MS. Maybe someone else will remember the user name.

Happy Valentine's Day! The Cornell Lab of Ornithology is observing it by posting a slide show about bird courtships:

We live in our own home, on 15 acres of land. We worked hard to pay off the mortgage some years ago, I was adamant that we'd do without other things (and have a large mortgage payment) to pay off the house, so regardless of the status of our other bills, we'd always have a roof over our heads....and some acreage to sell off for a few extra dollars should we need them. We also shopped for a house that was relatively easy to modify -- we put in an elevator so I could get from the main level to the basement, put in grab bars, put in raised toilets, a roll-in shower, wider doorways. We retired from full time work 21 years ago when we moved into this house. At that time I was on SSDI, and Tom Cat got a small retirement check (less than $350/month). Most of my check went to paying off the mortgage; the rest came from savings, and a small inheritance. About 10 years later he turned 62, and started collecting social security, and we were able to finish off the mortgage, and save again. I know that when Tom Cat is no longer able to care for me, or is gone, I will have to move into a nursing home situation, but for now...we manage to pay our property taxes every year (a huge chunk, increasing every year), and our regular monthly bills. While it's isolated here -- nearest neighbor is a half mile away -- we don't have neighborhood squabbles to deal with, and don't have to answer to a landlord! We lived in rentals for too many years to have to put up with that, again! We do our own thing, call in help when we need it, and blunder along. Til death do us part.

Post cards not tomorrow but 3/15

:) Cat you are right it was supposed to be 3/15 for the post cards. I wrote a letter and I will mail it tomorrow and get some post cards for next month. Jeanie :)

I plan to get about 6 to 8 and mail them next month. I will vary a little of what I say on each one:

For instance on one I will write "When do you think you will be moving out?" Another, I can write something Like "Isn't it time for you to return to N.Y. for good". You know just nice little things like that.

Suze, not back yet. We're returning March 5. At least that is that plan.

:) I am frustrated! Yesterday was supposed to be my final dental visit to have the crowns put on. When I got there they insisted I pay the last installment first. I did. The last payment was supposed to be after I got the final crowns.

Then the temporary crowns that were supposed to be final ones did not fit right. One was so loose it fell out. They had to give me numbing shots again and shove those cords under my gums and make impressions again. The impression stuff went all over my face and some almost went down my throat. One piece was even stuck to my eyelid hairs.

At this point I am worried that my final teeth may not be the improvement I was hoping for. One good thing is my van ramp is working wonderful and I thank Jesus every time I work it.

Ann thank you for the updates on your friend. I'm praying for all of you. Jeanie :)

Jeanie, dentists have a way of getting very hard-nosed about their payments even when you've had a good record with them for years. I'd hesitate to give one of them all of the money before the work is completely done but some have insisted.

Having to have impressions taken can be very unpleasant. I'm sure I've swallowed that stuff a few times. When upper impressions are done on me, I'm always afraid that they'll yank the fixed bridge out. It often feels as if it's about to come out. I've had that bridge over 40 years, which is some kind of a record for keeping a bridge, but I'm in no mood to replace it, which would cost many thousands.

In case anyone missed this story, I have a bridge for 6 of my front upper teeth because I fell and knocked 4 of them out during a vertigo episode when I was 20. The moral of the story is: Do not ignore vertigo episodes. Treat them with the utmost respect. Lie down and stay there. Get someone to escort you to/from the bathroom.

Jeanie, your dental visits have been the "dental visits from h--l". My Dentist insist on payment at time of visit. I have been going to that office since back in the 70s and I can guarantee he would not work out a payment plan with me. It is truly all about money, but the Dentist now all are extremely high and want payment right now. So, I just keep going because I don't know what else to do.

Thank goodness the ramp is working. Hope it holds up now for good.

Went to Neurologist yesterday. Mine is no longer seeing patients and I could not see the new one they assigned. Saw a male Nurse/Practitioner. I guess he was alright, but I needed a new Rx for a drug that I hand carry to Costco and do not report to my insurance because I can get the drug for about $20.00 for 90 days. If I go through insurance I will pay about the same and have to pick it up every 30 days. He could not write the Rx and will have to ask the Doctor to do so. I hope I receive it in the mail. I sent him a message today reminding him.

I asked about the new drugs. We saw the article that Agate posted. He said he would not change me from Rebif. He told me I was walking, talking, taking care of myself, my house, etc. and that I had won. I told him if I died without going to a nursing home I would consider that I won. He said there are some good drugs out, but that they all have side effects. He said just because Rebif is an older one does not mean it is not a good one.

I asked if I was the oldest MS patient he had seen. He said he had seen a few close to me, but yes I was the oldest.
