Agate, I really did look for a pink cover, but no one had one. The one I got is grey....I think!

Ann, I would find them intrusive, mostly because how often they have them. But it's totally up to them.

Here's a pink one and it's for a good cause too!

Thanks Vicky. But that one is very pale pink, which denotes female. But Pinky is Hot Pink which when driven by a masculine male, denotes "up-yours".

Masculine eh? If you say so, Mr. Long White Hair!

ANN and Howie, the inspections are intrusive and they are thorough. But it's the price we pay, I guess, for getting such a great deal on housing. When your rent is only 30% of your income, I'm only too glad to put up with inspections now and then. Or maybe by now I'm just used to them.

And this place usually has only one or two a year. The previous place had 4 or 5 a year.

I have to rearrange quite a few things, and they do open cabinets but they open only "their" cabinets. They don't poke into my furniture, just their built-in shelving and closets--kitchen cabinets, under the sink. They are making sure that the plumbing is working without leaks and probably checking to make sure our kitchens aren't so messy as to attract pests.

It's good that they're keeping an eye on possible fire or pest hazards. Living in a badly maintained building is bad news. Some residents aren't aware that they have leaky plumbing or a fire hazard.

In a similar building near here a couple of years ago there was a bad fire. A resident in her 80s had dropped a candle and set herself on fire. The burns were so severe that she died.

I see that candles are very popular but I no longer use them. They're lovely and can be delightfully aromatic but mine are sitting on a top shelf, unused.

I also live in a 30% of your income apartment. I have to go through an annual inspection. They supposedly also change the batteries in the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, they must have skipped that last year since the battery in the smoke detector started beeping because the battery was low last fall. My annual inspections usually happen in spring.

Jendie, our smoke detector batteries get changed too. No carbon monoxide detectors.

They're always nice about these inspections here. I'm lucky--the managers are human and understanding. I've known a few who definitely weren't.

So glad for you Agate. I hope Jendi's are nice also. I remember Renee who had lots of problems it seemed. I do hope she is alright.

Yes, renee, wherever you are, we feel that we know you a little bit here by now, and we're wondering what's happening with you.

And Sally, I hope you're recovering.

I can't do math, even with a computer. I make $1005 each month, my lot rent is $188. What percent is that?

18.70% of your income goes for the lot rent.

Mine comes out to 19.79%. It's lower than 30% because medical expenses are deducted from income.

Thanks Agate. It seems we all stay on the doorstep of poverty, with no escape.

I received a Valentine's present yesterday. A little beanie baby bear was left, along with my library book for the month on my porch. I am not sure who did it, but I know it was one of two ladies, so I e-mailed them this morning and told them it was true confession time and also thanked them.

I wish they had brought the book earlier. I don't have a lot of time left to read it before it has to be returned to the library by the lady who picks them up.

It was a nice thought. I think these two have gotten together and decided that they will either get me back with kindness or kill me with kindness.

Maybe it's time to get some of those battery operated candles. Little danger from them.
