I've never flown, so touch and go landing would mean "touch down, and go to the bathroom", hopefully in that order.

My mom took flying lessons and did everything she had to do to get a valid flying license, but stopped one flight short. I think she just wanted to prove to herself that she could.

Howie ~ I was going to suggest that you call your insurance agent, but it's a good idea to actually take your car to your agent to assess the repairs, maybe take photos. And yes, complain about the ridiculous amount of time they had your car. They could have built a dozen cars from the chassis up in that amount of time, for crying out loud! Your insurance company has lawyers. Maybe they will sue these crooks on your behalf!

Airports and Airplanes ...

Our home is located near what was once called the busiest municipal airport in the country. Economic changes have probably caused a decline in private aircraft ownership, and the big businesses here, which once attracted corporate executives flying in for meetings, are gone.

It's a fueling station for helicopters, which is a blessing when there are fires near us. They fuel at the airport, fly over us, get water from the golf course lake, and fly to the fire to dump the water. We see news, police and fire/rescue helicopters regularly.

The airport holds an annual air show. My boys and I took a flight with a private pilot at an air show in 1991. I was terrified, but my boys loved it. Now the air show has old war planes doing all kinds of maneuvers over our home, and that scares me.

Occasionally, a blimp flies over us on the way to Disneyland.

The biggest change occurred some years ago, when our neighborhood became part of the landing pattern for LAX. On my morning walks, I see these giant planes, almost able to read their airline logo, and I wave to the passengers! I wouldn't be surprised if some of them wave back, because these planes are that low.

The first week after 9/11, the skies were eerily quiet. Not a plane in sight, with the exception of occasional flyovers by jets from the nearby naval air station.

We are grateful to live near the airport, because we know that in a time of disaster, it will be utilized to help us. But we'd be very happy if LAX changed the landing pattern away from our neighborhood.

Jeanie, I had forgotten you flew airplanes once upon a time. My husband took lessons and flew small aircraft. He use to go and ferry airplanes from one place to another. We talked about him getting his license back at one point, but he was going to have to go through learning about radio flying and other stuff. He had been away from it quite awhile. I never did push it because I really didn't like it that much and was just happy not to have to do it.

I did have a boss who had part ownership in a small aircraft when we were in Memphis, Tn. He took me up and let me fly it, but I did not land it. So I got bored because the fun is in the landing and taking off of an airplane. My husband always said the rest was boring.

Did you do a lot of solo flying?

Rose, I had not thought of it, but I can see where an airport close by might be utilized to help in a time of crisis.

Think I'll go try my third night on my new cuddle ewe.

:) Virginia at the time I flew it was $41 an hour so I could not do it a lot. I logged about 100 hours and did my cross country solo triangle stopping at three airports but the FAA took my license away when I went for my physical and I put down that I had MS. I got a letter right away saying I had 10 days to surrender my license or pay a $10,000.00 fine. At that time I was wearing high heels,walking fine, etc. but they would not let anyone with MS have a license. So that ended my flying. Jeanie :)

Jeanie, somehow that surprises me that there was such a stiff penalty for flying in spite of having MS. People with MS often drive cars, and I think that if you can pass the tests to prove you can drive a car safely, they don't care if you have MS.

The airline industry must be very very impressed with how unpredictable and risky MS can be.

I had to set my alarm to get up and wake up w coffee to meet a house painter here. Painter came early! Oh, no! Fortunately, I was dressed but hadn't had my freshly made coffee yet.

It's sticky out, 76 going to 89, overcast. :-(

I was up a bit late. Recertification paperwork keeps me very busy at this time of year and I burn the midnight oil.

Today it will be 91', tomorrow 99', and the next day 100'. I hope the forecast is wrong. Whoever invented air conditioning deserves every medal and prize there is.

I was FORCED to see the value of AC yesterday. I was in the tub, and BOOM, the power went out, so no AC. It didn't take long before I melted into a puddle of goo!

Usually when this happens, I turn on the kitchen light so I can see when the power comes back on from the driveway. But no car, so....

Ann, I shopped for the month last time, so I'm sitting pretty good for food.

Howie, hope the A/C was not out very long. It scares me just to think about it. It was in the 90s here today. I haven't checked forecast for the weekend. But anyway I am not planning to go out anywhere. Maybe walk a across my deck and down the nine steps to empty the trash and that will be all.

Ann, painters usually start early. I know the man who normally does mine and when he was working here I would leave him a key then I would go upstairs, shut the door and go to sleep and if he was painting upstairs I would keep my bedroom door closed downstairs and just let him do his thing.

Bbs should be on her way home from surfing this morning. I hope it went well. I'm sure she just enjoyed just being at the ocean and hope she got on a board.

It's going to be hot and humid again today. Raining right now. Just hearing makes it feel cooler.
