Probably everyone else knows what this is, but I've been wondering what a PMD is (in stillstANNding's post)--?

      Guess: Primary medical doctor?

I had my first session in connection with the study I'll be in(for 3 years!). I got a look at the scales and the watch I'll be equipped with. The watch will show me the time, and if I want more information that the watch is recording, I stand on the scales and find out my BMI and steps taken and maybe other information as well.

They'll come back to set all of this up in a couple of weeks.

Cool, Agate! Remind us what they are studying.

Yes remind us what they are studying and what will you get for all this. I remember one thing is a watch that you wear on your wrist. Is it a Fitbit?

                    Is this the NARCOMS study?

Sunshine, no, it's not NARCOMS though I still do their questionnaires. This is called Collaborative Aging Research using Technology (CART):

Little sensors will be installed to monitor how much I move around, and the watch and scales will have sensors as well. There's also a pillbox that records how often I deal with that. The system wouldn't be photographing me or recording conversations.

The watch isn't a Fitbit. When I wear it I can see the time. It's picking up other information about me too but to get that, I'd need to go to the scales--the pedometer reading, the BMI, and whatever else it records (maybe heart rate?).

I might not turn out to be qualified for the study because my Internet connection is slow and unstable. They will run into that issue when they do the actual installing of their system.

Sunshine, beautiful pictures. What fit bodies. I still don't know how they walk up and down the boards and to the end of them. Amazing.

Agate, tell the people that it would be nice if they would pay for you to have faster internet service while the study is going on.

Virginia, in a way they're already doing that. They're going to pay $49/month, and they say that people are often using it to help pay for their Internet. In a way that's what I'll be doing, and I may very well find it worthwhile to upgrade to a faster speed.

It won't really amount to $49/month because my rent will go up, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.
