To everyone who has been telling Howie that he might think about walking around outside, just thought in his defense, I will tell you that most all this past week our temperatures have been in the mid 90s. I don't know about Howie's, but he is usually about the same as me.

See Howie, I do take up for you sometime. However, that has nothing to do with walking around inside in air conditioning.

Early morning and late evening are times when it often cools off, at least around here at this time of year--good times to get the outdoor walking in.

Heat in the south can be brutal though. It's quite possible you folks don't get any cool times of day, and I've forgotten.

Sam, mark that down, 1+ point for Virginia.

Agate, it is 11:30 here in the South and it is still 80 degrees outside. It will be worse later due to even higher temps and high humidity.

I've clearly forgotten the south. Haven't been there since the 1970s!

It was 88' here today. But now, at nearly 10 PM, it's 73' and expected to go down to 60'. Hot nights are miserable even if you have air conditioning.

I do recall feeling how hard that air conditioning was working just to keep things cool at night in Chicago. When I was in the south people had no air conditioning. We had fans. I guess we sat around and did very little and sipped iced tea. Or spent as much time as possible in a river or lake. Sometimes even the water was warm though.

There was a movie theater in town that got air conditioning at some point. It was hugely popular. People went to the movies just to get cool, and the movie theater advertised itself with a big sign saying "It's COOL inside!"

I have a fan, and an AC in this room (bedroom) that are running 24/7. And we still have a few months to go. August is usually the hottest month. Just something to look forward to.

But looking at the forecast, there is a solid week of rain coming. Nothing like 100% humidity to make you comfortable when added to temps in the 90's.

I hope Cat is OK. She didn't chime in on the Lazy Cooking thread and it's been awhile since I've "seen" her.

According to the "Users browsing this forum" section at the bottom of the page, she's online now. Maybe she just hasn't felt like saying anything.

I'd worry about Howie walking around too much outside until he knows what is happening to him- - seizures, or something else -- and the symptoms are treated.

I'm here.....just been busy. Tom cat has been preparing for his summer rendezvous/camping, and I've been making beef jerky, dried apples, and shortbread for him. He left this morning and will come back on Thursday, then he'll be home next Wednesday through the following Monday

So now I have four days for myself...except for the nurse coming in twice a day to help me in/out of bed, and a neighbor once a day to clean up after the cats and do whatever chores need doing.

The rest of the time I hope spend working on my dolhouses...after feeding the furkids, of courss...

People who have opted to be "invisible" don't show up among the "Users browsing this forum" (you don't, for instance, Howie). Instead you'd be one of the (currently 264) unidentified "Guests."

Ann, driving back from the grocery store today I thought about Cat. I guess we are thinking along the same lines, either because we've been spending time on her cooking thread or maybe "it's two great minds" thing. I too was wondering where she was. I had forgotten TC was going on a camping trip and I thought maybe he had been taking her fishing in that pond they found while out driving around.

My brother called to tell me not to step outside today. I told him I was just on my way, so he said drink some water.

Whew, it's almost 9:30, and it's 77 degrees out. Better get an extra blanket out.
