All my doctors --and the hearing aid people--do call a day or so in advance. If they're in the MyChart system, I also get an e-mail reminder of an appointment.

It did strike me as odd that I hadn't had any reminder about this appointment but I figured they just forgot or were going to send it later on during the day before the appointment.

If the doctor fails to send any reminder notice, I guess you're supposed to figure out that they've run into a problem and give the office a call.

The MyChart system usually works fairly well. I can get any test results there, often before the doctor gets them.

It's okay to call them a day or two before your appointment, and tell them you just want to confirm your appointment. I've done that a few times. They may be busy and forgot to call, or hadn't had time to call yet. That way, you get your day and time confirmed.

        Peg,
        This is wonderful!

        Agate,
HuH?!?!?!?! Should not happen this way!

I was part of a panel discussion at a dinner put on by retirement planners today.
First speaker was from the Hartford and was in charge of mutual fund investments although he focused his talk on the amazing work that is being done in the MIT aging project and not on anything that he would have to sell.
Second speaker was an elder attorney who talked about the need for durable and medical powers of attorney and how wills are no longer guarantees that what you want will be done. She also told us that in RI (for now at least) our retirement accounts and pensions are not subject to Medicaid funds to care for us when Medicare cannot.
Third speaker talked about reverse mortgages and how they have evolved give our heirs, instead of the bank, ownership of our homes.
Fourth speaker was on home modifications.
5th speaker was a nurse I had worked with in VNS who has now started her own home care company focusing on cognition, nutrition, exercise and keeping folks from being isolated.
I was next and talked about identifying the things over which we have control and maximizing our power in these areas.
Last speaker was my friend from the local funeral home about end of life planning and how prepaying funeral costs takes that money out of the equation for medicaid spend down for nursing home care.

All in all, it was well done and thought provoking and no one was trying to sell anything which was refreshing.

:) I had a hair appointment today. When I got there my ramp would not go back in. I asked a man there to try the lever inside with the engine running and it would do nothing. I had him try the manual switch but nothing, then he pulled the manual handle and he could manually lift the ramp and close the door but it would not latch.

I went in and had my hair done. I needed to grocery shop but could not with the ramp not working. I went straight to the mobility place. All their doors were closed, and it was raining, so I called their phone and the message was this location was closed and to keep checking. I called when I got home and I could not leave a message because the box was full.

I looked in the Yellow pages and found the other mobility place in Lake Worth and made an appointment for 11 AM tomorrow to have it worked on. I'm praying it is fixable after all it is 18 years old. I need it. Jeanie :)

Jeanie how did you get back in the van after you got your hair fixed? Did you or someone else pull the handle manually?

Cherie, interesting day it sounds like.

I'm so sorry that your ramp is on the fritz again. I hope it was repaired today.

I had similar problems with the lift on our first van, and it was new. One time the lift started to fold while Michael was on it in his wheelchair! Our current van is 20 years old. We haven't used the lift for years, so I don't know whether it works at all.

My heart goes out to you. I know how much you need your van and ramp and how frustrating it is when mechanical problems occur.

                Praying it is fixed!

:) They fixed it enough to get my scooter back in and the door latched. They ordered the lift switch and will call me when it comes in.

I called Andy as I need groceries and he will come Sunday and take me to Publix and get one of their carts for me. The labor there is $110 an hour. My bill was $156.00 which includes putting the part in when it comes.

I will be staying home until it is working again. Jeanie :)

I am not going to lie and try to make y'all believe that I got up at 4AM to watch the Royal Wedding this morning. However, I taped it from beginning to end. I think I had six hours of tape to watch.

I found it to be just beautiful. I loved her dress and thought it was so elegant. The Royal family has certainly come a long way. I watched The Crown on Netflix and loved it and learned a lot about the royal family from the Queen's childhood on. They have changed with William, but most especially Harry (since he is not in much danger of being King). I loved the diversity and the togetherness that I felt I saw.

I hope this young couple can go on to do the things in life to help others that seem to be important to both and to continue to love one another. I felt he was so tender with her. In addition to the white flowers that they walked under being there in remembrance of Diana, Harry also handpicked some forget-me-nots out of a flower garden that is still kept in her memory and had them carried to Meghan and asked that she work them into her bouquet.

I was awake at 5 and watched all the "good stuff: the ride down the long road to get he church, walking up the steps, the homily by the Episcopal priest, the vows..

Her dress was beautiful. I think she was beautiful before the dress! When I first saw her on Suits I remember thinking how beautiful she was and how I looked forward to seeing her in other things, never thinking it would be as a real life princess!I

And the homily was outstanding! A bit of gospel in the old traditional way. Some humlr, some flash, and pointed direct theology. I hope they heard it!

                      It was worth being awake!

I'm glad that the mobility place was able to help you. I hope you don't have to wait too long for the switch to come in. Thank goodness they still make replacement parts!

                        Virginia and Cat ~

Wasn't it beautiful?! The overhead shots of the countryside and Windsor were breathtaking! And they couldn't have asked for more perfect weather.

When Harry gazed at Meghan, he whispered, "You look amazing! I'm so lucky." Awww ...

Every time the camera captured Meghan's mother, I imagined that she was thinking, "my daughter is marrying a Prince!" She looked lovely in that green tone.

The Queen's green was neon and surprised me. When I mentioned to Jim that she was expressionless throughout the service, he said, "That's her role as Queen. Stoic. Stern."

I also noticed that at the end, as the Queen and Phillip left the church, the Royals were standing on the sidewalk. They waved, and then they all bowed and curtsied.

It's great that Harry and Meghan shook up the protocol and stagnation of the rules. Rules for women's attire: closed toe pumps, no heels. So, I looked at the feet of all of the women! There were open toed strappy heels. And HEELS! Even the pregnant women were in high heels.

I think the Reverend shook up the congregants too! Several crowd shots showed the snootier side of the "chosen" attendees. I wonder how many of them secretly disapprove of Meghan's African American heritage. The choir's rendition of "Stand By Me" was touching, and the cellist was incredible. I loved all of the music, so soothing, gentle. But I do think it was a bit unsettling for some of the audience. Not quite the standard Royal wedding.

The Reverend admitted that he had exceeded his allotted time, and then went on for several more minutes. He did end by re-emphasizing his point that Love is all we need. I was waiting for a Beatles song after he spoke.

When Will and Harry exited their car to walk into the church, that's when the tears flowed for me. I could see them in my memory walking behind their mother's coffin, so young, so innocent, so lost and hurt.

I was so glad that Diana was incorporated into the event, as she should be.

Diana was saddled with that big puffy gown for her wedding to Charles. But Kate and Meghan both chose sleek, modern, understated gowns, which allowed their beauty to shine over their dresses.

And the children were so adorable! And the flowers gorgeous!

I watched the 2 1/2 hour coverage of the wedding from arrivals to their carriage ride to the castle on YouTube. I have to watch in intervals to accomplish my other tasks, so it took me several hours. I appreciated that there was no commentary. The view of the estate, where Meghan was preparing, carried the sound of birds chirping.

May Meghan and Harry have a long happy life together.

I have watched portions of the wedding after the fact. I agree that the Sermon was spot on and needed to be heard by the World. Loved the music, gown, simplicity, grandeur, photography. I still have not seen the cellist or Charles walking Meghan down the aisle but will.

We had a week of 50s and rain every day which was wonderful for the lawns and gardens and trees and flowering bushes. Today is sunny and 62 so far with low humidity. Grateful.

I agree that Meghan is very beautiful. And in a way she's "our" princess. Not just a commoner but an American--and with an Afro-American mother.

That might shake some people up but maybe the time has come. "Race" as a concept is disappearing, and it's time it did.

So far I've seen only bits of the wedding as shown on the news. I'm hoping to get hold of a DVD showing it or find it in a streaming video. I prefer to watch things I can rewind so I can catch parts I missed the first time around. Or can pause if there's an interruption. Slow eyes and slow ears here.
