Virginia, my mother had a similar thing happen in her laundry room. The sewer backed up and the plumber came and he call some disaster recovery people. Mom called her insurance and they cleaned things up, did the repair and replaced carpeting in the entire walk out basement and up the stairs. That was followed by a sizable jump in her home owners insurance.

Ann, I wondered if my friend's insurance went up. She said at the time that their rep said it would not, but I bet later it did. They were not people who believed in roughing it, so they stayed at a nice Embassy Suites Hotel that had a very nice bar and restaurant where they could get their meals.

Jeanie, hope you are having a nice sleep-in day. Glad you got out to go hear the band.

Yes, Virginia, the insurance company will do whatever it takes to get this right. I doubt that we will have to move out but if that need becomes evident, they will cover the cost of alternate lodging.

I am in DC for a conference till Tuesday evening./ American College of Cardiologists and American Geriatric Society with the National Institutes on Aging. I am part of a patient and advocate panel of 4 people who addresses the issue of diagnostic testing for the older adult and how to determine when guidelines might need to be overridden or overlooked to accommodate patient and family preference and goals.. Quality vs Quantity of life issues.

:) MS sucks! Last night I fell coming out of the bathroom and landed in between the scooter and the door jamb. I managed to push the scooter away a little and I tried to scoot on my fanny to the computer room to the nearest phone.

It took me almost an hour to travel 10 feet. It was 12:30 when I called Andy. He came but he could not lift me by himself. I pushed the panic button on my alarm remote and ADT called and I told them I was on the floor and could not get up. They sent 4 paramedics.

Two of them had a five inch wide strap with rope loops on either side. They put it behind my back and pulled the loops to the front and had me put my arms down. They just hoisted me straight up and I managed to get my feet under me and sit on the scooter seat. I had wet my pants and it was embarassing.

Andy stayed until I went to the bathroom and then he helped me get in the bed. He also got my female urinal for me to have at the bedside. This morning he came by to check on me and brought a donut.

If I ever wind up on the floor again I will just push the panic button and not bother Andy. I have a key outside in a lock box with a combination I can give them to be able to get in. I can tun off the alarm with the remote also.

Glad Howie is okay.

I may have overdone it going to hear the band, but I really feel annoyed with MS right now. Luckily I did not break anything or hit my head. Jeanie :)

Jeanie, what an ordeal for you to have to endure. To say you are annoyed with MS is quite an understatement I am sure. You are right it sucks! As far as overdoing it going to hear the band, I know you feel you just have to get out once in awhile. I hope this will not cause you to have a setback. You do so good!

Oh, Jeanie, I'm so sorry! Yes, calling ADT (or 911) is the best thing to do . They've got the equipment and person power to lift you up and check for any injuries. I'm glad you weren't injured!

What a shame, Jeanie! I hope you won't have any painful bruises or other injuries turning up as a result of your fall. It must have been profoundly unsettling. But as you say, at least you're still alive and apparently have nothing broken.

I had an off day and the sweats w pressure in the area under my sleep rib cage. To be very careful, I am in the ER waiting to be seen. Busy here. I thought they’d race me in for an ekg but not yet. Peter is w me. I’ll let you know. I’d love to be able to sleep in my own bed tonight.

I just mentioned to Jim that you are in ER, and I reminded him that you and Peter had recently gone to Cape Cod. Jim said he saw a news story about the prevalence of lyme disease in Cape Cod due to the large deer population. I have no idea whether your symptoms might correlate with lyme disease. But, I just thought I'd mention it as an "outside the box" possibility.

Some good news: they ruled out cardiac.

For unknown reasons, my BP has spiked to 190! Chest x-ray is good. I’m having a CT of my abdomen tonight. I’m told the run it all night and I am having it tonight because I’m here and it is available.

They gave me a private room w a view of the Arboretum. We live on the opposite side so that’s great.

I am very tired but glad to know the things that are not wrong.

The room has a bathroom w a walk in shower and the keep a walker in every room.
