If it becomes necessary, after the pandemic, and some creative crowdsource fundraising on the forum, I shall personally travel to Switzerland and express your displeasure!!!

(let me know if this becomes likely as I'll need time to obtain a passport)
Wow, that's mighty decent of you, Brian! Of course you'll be so busy while there that you won't have time to eat any of the local food delicacies or notice any of those mountains Heidi was so fond of...

Does anyone else remember reading about Heidi, the little girl in the Swiss Alps?

Rose, the V8 was in a plastic bottle, not a can. It had a plastic lid with a ring underneath the lid to make it harder to open if you know the type I mean. You have to dislodge the ring from the cap to get the cap to move at all, quite often, even with a good opener at the ready.

I agree that whacking jar lids against something quite hard is often effective. I wouldn't be up to whacking one on the floor but often use the kitchen counter. It was my preferred solution for pickle jars--a few sharp whacks all around the lid.

Agate, the V-8 juice is the kind of top my cranberry juice cocktail has.

Okay, Brian and Cathy may be saved a trip to Switzerland since I know they really don't WANT to go. Yesterday my SIL stopped by with a few groceries for me. I didn't order it, but since she knows my really "guilty sin" is pistachio gelato. She put a pint in my groceries. It comes in a hard plastic wide jar. Now, I have never gotten one of these lids off without running hot water over it. They are, after all, frozen. Tonight I just took my handy gadget out and put it over the wide lid and darn if I didn't get that lid off in a hurry.

So, for now I will recommend it as a way to open frozen gelato.

Score 1 for the really, no really, great jar opener!

        Pistachio gelato sounds really good.

I hope Brian and Cathy took their "really great, no really I mean a great jar opener" with them to Mars. How can they survive up there without it. Yesterday I opened a big bottle of cranberry juice cocktail - like the kind I fussed about before. Probably took me 2 seconds. Then I opened a 48oz bottle of V-8 juice, probably 1 to 2 seconds.

The Martians have never seen anything like this I am sure. It doesn't even require electricity. Just think how Brian could get his money back for the trip if he had taken enough of them. I bet they have never seen anything like this "really great, no really I mean great jar opener" that also works on all kinds of juice and soft drinks. They would pay Brian a fortune to have some up there. Just hope they don't get tired of them and throw them away. I wonder if they are aware of what litter is? I expect so since they probably saw some when the space station landed.

In fact, they might not have been overly happy to see the space station landing, cluttering up their space.

But yes, Brian and Cathy could set up quite a business there, peddling jar openers because they'd surely be useful.

Peter will do ironing and things that are up high in my place that need to be taken care of. I might come up with something else.

I am reading a great book the deals with artificial humans....that are so human like that it reminds me of the moral issues around a character on “Star Trek”. The character Data engendered questions about what rights he had and therefore whether he was aware and therefore should be accorded rights. Now, my thoughts about Peter. If we could really purchase artificial life forms to do all the work we say is a chore for us....it could never match what you have! (“Klara and the Sun” by Kazuo Ishiguro

Oh, he cooks, does he? I don't think he'll be left just staring at the TV then. "The devil finds work for idle hands," etc.

                              A. I should have know the "the um, Really great, no really great, pistachio gelato opener" discussion would have taken of a life of its own...it's just that great.

                              2. I'm really not a salesman, more an enthusiastic consumer, even if the product is "really great".

                              Q. I have loved Star Trek since I saw the pilot and have watched the "original" series many times over the decades.

Random, are you home? I thought you might have hitched back on space junk or called an Uber shuttle.
