Well technically I'm a GREAT grandma! My son's wife is older than he and her dd has children. Currently they have custody of an adorable little boy, have since birth, and hope to adopt him soon. We never seen any of them outside a few pictures though. It's hard when many miles separate poor families! My Marine has a lot of issues leftover from his tours, including a TBI, but with time he seems to be improving. I will keep your son in my prayers. It would be so nice if everyone would just get along huh!!

Sure seems like message boards in general are a dying breed, now it's all 'Facebook' and 'Twitter', neither of which I am part of. I've often thought about the early BT days, so much going on. I often wonder about some of the old 'faces'. Like is our old 'Little Flip' off married with a family now?? I don't even know if she ever left London, lol!

Ahhhh well, enough reminiscing for now, meds are trying to kick in ;)

Melanie, yes it seems like people are going to FB and twitter but I don't think they consider the public nature of those sites with info about their conditions and medications. I know our site is public but at least it is limited a lot more than FB or twitter is. Sorry to hear your son is dealing with TBI but it is one of the main aspects of today's combat conditions. I do hope time sees him continue to improve. I talked to Tyrel before he went in and didn't pull any punches about what he could face. I knew he had considered getting killed but I told him there were things far worse than dying and we talked about those things and how he could deal with living that way. It is a shame they live so far away from you that you or they can't visit often. I know we are blessed to have our daughter and SIL in town so we can see the grand daughters when we want.

There was a post some time this past year that had people checking in and it was amazing how many aren't around but still read this board now and then. I doubt that "Flip" left London as long as her husband wants to stay there. So many that we used to keep up with and now they have slipped away. I have to admit that this board was my social life since I can't get out much so I have had to find another way to pass time. Lee from our group just got diagnosed with spinal cancer and she quit PMing me along with not posting on the board so I worry about how she is doing. The doctor gave her a year or less to live and once she got the news she dropped off the internet.

Take care and I hope you get to see the grandson soon and their adoption goes through with little trouble.

I missed out on the football reunion but got to see lots of pictures on FB. I had a lost day yesterday so I would have missed the game whether we made the trip or not. Things have come to a stop on this site and I don't know if I should even try posting, I guess I will wait and see,

According to Einstein I am insane because I keep coming here expecting others to be posting. I did get over to the kids house and see the girls. Emery was talking a mile a minute about their trip to the dog park. Audyn was showing me her walking skills. Our son in the Army called, I was having a lost day, and told us he is now in the CIOST here is a link about the job Only registered and activated users can see links., Click Here To Register...

He says he leaves for Afghanistan in Jan with intensive training going on in Oct and Nov. He plans on coming home in Dec for a leave before leaving to Afghanistan. At least his job isn't the most dangerous job over there but it isn't ever safe for our troops. He is excited about the job and going to Afghanistan so I am okay with it as long as it is something he wants to do. I was hoping our troops would be home by then but I guess we can't trust any politician no matter what they promise when running for the seat [I will leave it there].

Penny has been having a tough week from a physical problems, pancreatic attack and then lumbar problems, as one after another problem cropped up. I helped as much as I could but I was having a week with little energy so I was limited what I could do for her. It wasn't a week to celebrate our 28th anniversary so we are doing it this weekend.

Hello Mark. Remember me? I haven't been here for ages. I'm still nostalgic for the old place. I think I,m as good as its going to get, which is not brilliant. I have problems with hands and arms, coming from neck, and lower back not great either. I'm busy though, thats the key. If I sat around letting myself get depressed about myself I'd go mad. I volunteer at the local hospital, and also the hospice, and a charity bookshop, and I help out in my grandchildren's school one day a week during term time. Sorry to hear your wife had not been well. I believe the pancreas can cause horrible pain, so I hope she is feeling much much better. Are Audyn and Emery your grandchildren. What pretty names.
I took my two to London during the summer, to show them the sights, and go to a musical, (the Lion King) WONDERFUL, and generally just give them a bit of a treat. We had a lovely four days down there, did a river trip, went on the London Eye, ...all the things that tourists do.

My husband is now in remission after being ill for the best part of a year with cancer, and in and out of hospital.I'm still worried about him, and he's going for a spinal scan shortly, just to check out his spine, as he had secondary cancer there. He doesn't seem too worried, but he covers up, buries his feelings very deeply.
I'll be thinking about your son, with his stint in Afghanistan, and I wish him the very very best, and God Bless to him, and keep him safe. I'm glad you're still posting here. (the only name I recognise!) good to see you!

Maryjo, it is a treat to check in and see your post. It is so good to hear you are still staying active and I wish I could be more active. I am just in a bad slump right now without much energy but my latest blood work shows my T-levels are low so I hope my doctor makes a change with my injections as I do much better the T-levels are in the normal range. My wife is preparing to have her gall bladder taken out as it has shut down and causing most of her abdominal problems. I hope she gets feeling much better following the surgery. Our two granddaughters are a treat as it sounds like your grandkids sound like they are a treat for you. The littlest one had her 1st birthday party yesterday. I could only stick around for about 10 min but my wife was able to stay and play with the older one [Emery 3 yrs old].

Sorry to hear you are dealing with additional pain and with your husband's cancer. I hope you can continue to be active as it really improves our lives and helps keep our focus off our pain. I hope you keep checking in and we can keep this place open with the hope others come and the site starts expanding but I have my doubts.

Hi Mark, I didn't lose interest, I lost internet! Then I got sick. My router died and because it was around Labor day it tool like 2 weeks!! Then I got sick. I'm still not online as much as I used to be but I'm trying to do better. I sank into the dark hole for a long time this year. But things are looking up. My Marine even moved a little closer to home, now about 3 hours away instead of 10!

                    Hey Mark and others,
I finally found the link to the boards again after some long time period.......When I found it the other day, I found a pm from Mark , almost two years old now so it has been a while since I have been here. I responded to Mark's pm and hope that there are still others who are around. I think that part of the problem with this website is that it is a bit difficult to navigate, at least I have found it to be, more complex than the old boards used to be, and the archives from the old boards are still gone right?
Anyway, just wanted to pop in and see if anyone was still around........I hope that everyone who is, is doing as well as they can be, and that they are busily living their lives. Hope to hear from you guys ....

Melanie, good to hear your Marine is living closer to your home. Boy you sure had a lot of computer issues hit you. Tyrel is gearing up for his time in Afghanistan as they have started intensive training session for the time over there. We babysat the granddaughters tonight but I only could make it about 45 minutes so Penny had them the rest of the day and evening [about five hours]. I had a good time with them and then Penny had a blast with them. Penny had her gall bladder taken out so surgery is over and all went well. She is back to work and feeling much better.

Ahhh, you're back! I tried popping in awhile ago and got zip, I saw the MOD post today and saw what happened. I can relate, same thing just happened to me only it was a doctor bill ;p
I've been doing better with a recent med change. More active and even less depressed :)

So Mark, what's your favorite Trick or Treater going to be this year? It's cold and rainy here so we won't even get the usual 3-4. Works out ok, I can buy cheap candy tomorrow for ME!!!

My favorite trick or treater wore a sexy skimpy little lacy .....oh you didn't mean my wife lol. Our granddaughter dressed up as a magical princess fairie this year. She looked cute in all the lace and chiffon(?) and her magic wand. She was in a hurry to leave because the rule for them is no candy until they got home. The youngest one wore a T-shirt with a bright orange jack-o-latern. They pushed our trick or treat day back to Friday because of the bad storms moving in on Thursday. I just found out my mom has the beginning stages of Parkinson's so I call each day to see how her shaking is doing. I would like to visit but I can't travel that far any more so the phone calls will have to do.

I hurt my lumbar for the first time in a couple of years so I am not walking more than a few steps at a time. Thankfully my chair is right next to the basement bathroom door. Penny has been bringing me food, snacks, and drinks so I don't starve until I can get up the stairs. The pain isn't any worse that my usual spinal pain in other areas but the muscle spasms that make if feel like my torso will separate from my lower body isn't any fun.

How have you, hubby, and your extended family been doing? I talk to Brion and he is dealing with colon cancer once again plus he lost his doctor due to ObamaCare. There is so little of his colon left they decided invasive surgery was out so he is on an experimental chemo plan. He has a very good attitude for all he has gone through especially after losing his son to cancer.

I will finish with some better news, Fall as come to our area as the trees are changing colors and temps are getting really cool at night and moderate during the day. I hope it last for a while as I am not looking forward to the colder temps of winter. I will just stay inside and snuggle under a blanket all day while I read, watch TV, or get on the internet. I also will be cheering on the Colts as they are having a very good year once again. It will be fun to see how far they can go.

My lumbar spine is doing a little bit better each day and today I could get up and around for a few minutes. Hopefully by the weekend I can get out and about once again. I hope everyone is doing better and enjoy Fall weather. Our trees are full of color -red, orange, and yellow and looking very pretty in the hills. Our temps are mild during the day and cool at night. We had the heating and AC people out for the annual check-up before really cold air came in. We didn't expect any trouble with the furnace since it is only a few years old and it was in good shape.

HEY, DON'T SHUT THE ROOM PLEASE????

I'm desperate and that would be the last nail in my coffin. I'm ever so sorry I haven't been here in so long a time, but I have been in the hospital on and off ever since sometime around Christmas. It's been so good to hear from so many today.

Mark, you aren't crazy, I think we just all love each other so much we want to stay in touch, eh? I know that's the way with me. I'm still not well, but I'm hopping I'll be able to come back in more. I've just got to take it easy and not over do it.

I see Penny had good luck with her gall bladder surgery. That is what started me on this long horrible trip. I will be praying for Penny and you too of course.

It's good to see all and I love you all. Hi to Melanie and all others...........

My love to all, Julia s
