I'd say that owl is headed for a career as a model or movie star.
The other day I looked in on the eagles' nest, and the parents were just doing a changing of the guard, I guess. One of them brought in what seemed to be a large fish, and he/she perched right by the nest with all of the little ones poking their heads up--and mom or pop ate the whole fish him/herself. Never once offered any to the babies.
The male will sometimes will do that. Usually if Mom is around, she'll
snatch it from him and feed the babies. Unless they've already been
fed, then, they will both do that.
Thanks, Sally! I thought it was piggish of him but the little ones may not even have been aware of what he was doing. And mom had left the minute he came along.
Those owlets are so fetching I just had to toss this in even though it doesn't exactly fit in this thread:Only registered and activated users can see links., Click Here To Register...
Brave little ducklings! There do seem to be a lot of unhatched eggs left, or maybe they're really broken eggs and we're just not seeing the broken part.
Can't have a bunch of ducklings without breaking some eggs, I guess.
Nuthatch, your little Nuthatch babies are sure getting big.
They have mouths bigger than their bodies, when hungry..LOL
