And logging in and out, I've never done I don't think. I just come here, and when I leave, I just go to the upper right corner, and click the red box with the X in it.

Floppies are old technology. Everything is on disc now. But someone with an old computer may be able to use them, but computers don't last very long either.

Virginia, Joan, what catalogues are you using to order clothing from? I've not been happy with the quality when I've tried that, but maybe I'd try it again if you've been happy with what you've ordered.

Agate, I don't really think people pay that much attention to who is logged on. I don't. You are valued here, don't be worried about giving any wrong impression!

I have old floppies too, but no longer a floppy disc holder. I have those smaller other discs with no disc drive to read them too. Will have to figure out how to destroy them as well.

Virginia, I consider a neck, scalp massage a treat and very therapeutic. There are a lot of nerve endings and little muscles there that really tingle and respond well to light massage. You know when you're getting your hair done and the shampooer adds in a little extra scalp massage? Pure heaven! I'd have my hair done every week just for that scalp massage!

Yes, I cleared out a whole drawer by getting rid of the floppies. The floppy drive on my PC failed years ago.

SuzE-Q, for women's clothes, if I follow the sales at L.L. Bean, Tog Shop, Appleseed's, I can get clothes that are durable. Sometimes there are drastic markdowns for slightly irregular items.

About the question of staying logged in here: If you're logged in and not in "invisible" mode, your user name shows up at the bottom of the screen among those currently online. Newbies visiting here would always be seeing the same one name (agate) and might think I'm one of the mods. It's been known to happen, and not with a newbie. An old-timer here was assuming all along that I was a mod.

But if nobody minds, I'll go on staying logged in most of the time. If anyone doesn't think that's a good idea, I hope you won't hesitate to let me know--by PM if you like.

Vicky, it's not that there's any harm in logging out. There might be a misunderstanding, for newbies especially, if one user is constantly showing up as logged in--as happens when you're not "invisible" but you're logged in, and then your user name shows up at the bottom of the screen, where it says "Users browsing this forum."

I've been noticing that newbies come here but they don't stay. That's always been the way, of course, but back in our glory days here, at least some of them stayed.

Thinking I might have B.O. or some other problem even my best friend won't tell me about.

Made it to the hair appointment. Went out to car and let it run with air conditioner on for about 10 minutes before I left. It was a little bit harder coming back because I couldn't do that at the hairdresser's.

If you close the browser tab for this board, you're automatically "absent" and your name won't appear on the bottom of the screen among those who are currently logged in. This isn't the same as the "remember me" that you check if you log in and want to stay logged in.

There is "being permanently logged on" which means that you don't have to log in every time you come here.

But if you close all of the tabs for this board on your screen, you still won't have to log in when you come back BUT your name won't show up as among the users currently online here.

When I look at the bottom of that screen, I often see only "agate" and that is because I always keep a tab for this board open in the browser (Google Chrome for me). Most people seem not to do this, and I can understand that and wouldn't expect anyone else to. It was just something I thought might help to make this place look occupied.

I know that I've visited some boards on various days and when I noticed that no one was ever showing up as currently online, that board wasn't very active--and I might get discouraged and leave for that reason.

Maybe I am overthinking it as Red (formerly known as ANN) suggests, but I flit around trying out various message boards from time to time, and trust me--noticing how many are online on a typical day is something people, especially newbies, notice.
