I have not heard a weather forecast for our area in N.C. At one point last night it was coming right at us. However, I did see a map this evening and now that it has turned west a little, it looks like Tennessee is going to get it. I was hoping for us that at the point it got here it would have diminished a great deal and right now that is what I am hoping for Tennessee.

Usually, Hurricane winds diminish as they come inland, but the one that hit us in 1954 or 1955 got stronger after it came ashore. The one in 1966 did also. The winds were what Jeannie is talking about. They were 75 to 80 MPH. Everyone said it sounded like a freight train going through their houses. I was out of town. I came back about 4 days later to no power and it looked like a war zone. This was an awful looking place. One reason was because we had had a lot of rain prior to the hurricane and the ground was saturated, so trees just dropped like crazy. Tree people were gauging homeowners and all kind of bad things happening. I remember riding into some areas that if I had not known exactly where I was I would not have recognized these areas. It was enough to make me cry in some instances.

Jeanie, I doubt that you will have power for a very long time, but get to us as soon as you can.

:) It looks like it will be Sunday when we get the worst. Hopefully my power will stay on until then. All the shelters are full and they are asking for volunteers to open more. Also requesting bedding as many showed up with no bedding some elderly.

The shelters have the homeless and some on drugs and some have their stuff stolen if they go to the bathroom. I am so grateful not to have to be in one. Goodnight everyone. Jeanie :)

Here is an updated analysis of Irma's impact on Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas:

Irma is a Cat 4 at this point, not likely to be downgraded when it hits Florida.

            Prayers for everyone ~

Jeanie, with it jogging to the left again, I gotta think you and I won't see more than cat 3, and I bet it's closer to a weak cat 2. Not that it matters. Whatever it be, it's out of our hands. So glad I didn't evac to Tampa as originally planned...

Just a bit more of a left jog, is that too much to ask?

Miami on the other hand is totally screwed. What a crying shame. I love Miami. Such a great city...got a surf friend in Hollywood who stayed.

It's a category 3 right now, and about to turn towards Florida. It will be moving over very warm water, so may increase in intensity. Looks like it's heading up the west coast (instead of the east coast). It still will encompass most of Florida, so it hardly matters.. still an ugly storm. Storm surges still predicted for both coasts.

Just listening to the news right now -- it has indeed intensified, and it is back to a category 4.... and still moving toward the west coast of Florida. Potential for up to 12 foot surges along the west coast!

Am thinking east coast will be okay other than Miami lauderdale.

:) I watched the coverage until past midnight, then went to bed. My room is so dark with the shutters on that I slept until 1 PM today. Outside it is quite windy but I still have power thank God.

I have been praying for Irma to go away and it did move further west so we will get a lower wind. I pray our power stays on. We are projected to get 8 to 10 inches of rain. Winds up tp 80 mph and even on Monday 60 mph.

Some boat owners here took their boats to the West Coast and now they are right in the path. A couple are going to stay on their boats. That is scary. In the 80's when we had a boat we put extra ropes on it to the dock and bumpers on the sides and stayed at home. I never considered staying on the boat.

Jim's inlaws are staying with he and Carla since they have a house similar to a mobile home. Andy has made a bin with dirt in it because his 4 feral cats are usually outside and he wants them inside. He has the bin right by the front door hoping they will use that instead of going out.

Some of our county in the south part have already lost power. We are getting the feeder bands already and that is causing the power outages. I will check in if I have power. I'm praying for all those in the direct path. Jeanie :)

Hang in there Jeanie. Looks like Sunday night will be the worst of it.

Staying on a boat during a hurricane sounds like a bad idea. I've seen previous hurricanes that just tossed the boats everywhere. I never thought someone would be on one.

:) The 5 o'clock report says my area will probably lose power before midnight tonight. I hope not. Monday is also supposed to be strong enough winds that the repair crews cannot go out. I plan to watch SNL tonight but if the power is out I won't. I'll post if I still have power. Jeanie :)

I recently read 15ft storm surge predicted, I'm not sure where specifically that is for.

:) The storm surge is for the west coast of FL. There are tornado warnings for our area and the feeder bands are beginning to reach here with driving rain and wind. Some have lost power but so far I still have power.

There is nothing on any channel but hurricane info so I am going to go to bed earlier than planned. No SNL. I will check in in the morning if I have power. Goodnight everyone. Jeanie :)
