:) Hi everyone. I am a Native Floridian. I was born in Jacksonville and moved to West Palm Beach when I was 23 (now 74). I will take a hurricane over a tornado or earthquake ANY DAY. You get plenty of advance warning. My house is concrete block and the roof is concrete tiles.

A couple of years ago we had Frances and Jeanie both go through here a few weeks apart. We had no power for 13 days with one and 12 days the other. We got a generator after Frances and so we had power during Jeanie. Limbs and branches were all over the place but we were ok and both of those were strong hurricanes.

Years ago I was in a hotel on Beverly Hills Wiltshire Boulevard in California and about 3:30 AM there was a 5.8 Earthquake. I was on the 14th floor and asleep on my stomach. I held on to the sheets as hard as I could but could not stay on the bed. I did not know what to do. With aftershocks it went on for 6 minutes. I was terrified. The next morning I went to the desk to try to get moved to the first floor. A pro football team was staying there for a game and they were all seeking first floor rooms too. The hotel was built on rockers which made the movement even more pronounced. I had paid for another night but I was glad when I could leave there.

My friend lived in Wagoner Oklahoma and was bed ridden. A tornado took out a house only 3 doors away from her. She is now in Jacksonville in a nursing home. I am glad she is not in tornado alley anymore.

I will take a hurricane over tornados and earthquakes for sure.

Gary I hope y'all have a great camping trip. Jeanie :)

Jeanie, earthquakes are scary. Having everything move uncontrollably is a bit like MS though.

Yesterday, my 75th birthday, began with a difficult plumbing situation, not my favorite way to spend any day. I find dealing with plungers and snakes difficult, and they weren't working this time in spite of many tries.

The maintenance guy had to use several snakes, each one fiercer looking than the last, until the problem was fixed. I hope it was fixed, anyway.

The day got better as it went on though. And the weather was perfect.

Thanks, Sally--my son snapped that photo on the patio the day before my birthday, at my request. The selfies I was taking weren't turning out very well.

That's a good one. I'm going to attempt a selfie soon. My new digital camera has a timer on it so you set that, then get back and "pose" and it snaps the picture.

My camera will do that too, but the problem is that I don't seem to have the knack of it yet. I realize your cats are probably taking selfies but I'm not that clever by half.

Surely there must be some freebies for your birthday week.

Singing kitties and somberly singing guys--and freebies too! This is the place to be.

renee, I'm all for freebies. When some of you youngsters here get older, you'll hear about all kinds of senior discounts you can get--usually 10% off. Sometimes having gray hair has its advantages.

In fact, I've known a few people who weren't naturally gray yet who got their hair colored gray--that's how stylish gray is. And there are all kinds of organizations trying to make sure we get more freebies--AARP, Gray Panthers.

I've heard that senior citizens are going to be more and more vocal and aggressive about improving things for themselves now that the Baby Boomers are becoming seniors.

So be of good cheer. Aging doesn't have to be dreary.
