Jeanie, this is eerily reminiscent of my father's passing. The med used for end stage pain is morphine. They can indeed hear you, but can't answer. She is feeling absolutely no pain.

And my dad also lost any interest in food or drink. It's like you remarked, they are slowly shutting down.

May she go quickly, and peacefully.

      Jamie died

:)Jamie fought cancer for five years but tonight at 6 PM she lost the battle. We had told her during the day that she did not have to fight anymore. She heard us but was not able to answer.

Jamie's Mom and brother said they were going for coffee and I said I was going to the bathroom. Jamie was waiting to be alone with Andy. Andy said she took two breaths and then he told her to breathe and she took one more and died with him holding her hand.

It is very sad but she is no longer suffering. Andy picked her head up and gave her a long hug. He said we were not able to hug because she had pain so many places and he was glad to be able to hug her tight. My heart hurts for him.

Thank you all for being here for me to be able to share what was happening. Jeanie :)

No more pain, no more suffering. She is now in a place we will all experience one day. You get some rest Jeanie.

            Jeanie,
I am so sorry for your loss. Jamie really fought hard and long. Hope that you, Andy, and her family can find comfort in knowing that she is finally at peace.

            Hugs,
            Joan

I expected this from what you had shared but not quite yet. I am so sorry. How will Andy cope? Do we need to be sending him cards or notes, and if so to what address?

I'm so sorry, Jeanie. Even when it's expected, it's still a terrible shock and a grievous loss. I hope you and your family will accept any offers of help that come your way, to aid you in getting through this time.

How are you doing today, Jeanie? After such focus and undivided attention, to the point of exhaustion, today must feel surreal on many levels for you.

I hope you were able to rest well last night.

I've been thinking a lot about Jamie over night. We've come to know her ourselves through you sharing your own experiences and time with her with us through the years.

I'm really glad you let us in to be bystanders and supporters of you, and her, through our thoughts and prayers. I think after a night of contemplation and reflection myself, I've come to appreciate that it's not the number of years that we are here, it's the spirit and grace we demonstrate that matters and that leaves a lasting impression. I feel Jamie was a beautiful spirit, fought fiercely, and was graceful in the end. I learned a lot from her example that you shared.

                            Thank you for sharing.

You were such a big help and support to her and Andy. We all would be blessed to have someone like you by our side if we too were faced with such challenging and extremely difficult circumstances. You yourself were grace under pressure and stress. You have uttered not a single word of complaint.

I hope you are managing yourself today with such a sudden, although not unexpected tragic end to Jamie's struggle.

Just wanted to let you know that I was thinking of you today. Please feel free to vent or share how you're feeling if you need to. But just wanted to let you know that you were in my thoughts, even if you are just content to read here and process your feelings on your own for a bit, you are still in my thoughts. I know how sensitive dogs can be, so I'm sure Lacy is sticking close by and keeping her eye on you, giving you lots of licks and much love. Please know that we are too (well, not the licks, except Howie's cats are probably doing that too).

You know this speaks volumes. Over the years we have shared info good and bad, happy and heart breaking, with each other. Whether it is Sally's struggles with rehab or Howies attack cats. BT is the first thing I check in the morning and the last thing I look at at night. I share stories with my family about people and places that I read here on BT.

This truly is a good place to hang your hat.

SuzE-Q, well said. That sums it up so well for us all. Now I'm going to get some sandpaper licks to make me feel better. OUCH...that's so nice!
