    Hello all!

Gary, it's not being nosy to be concerned about someone we care about. I would love to hear from Sally, but it's good to hear from anyone who IS nosy about how she's doing. Keep it up!

The dumpster I go to has separate dumpsters labeled for aluminum or glass, etc, but I am lazy, and just throw everything in the big dumpsters. I would hate having multiple bags or boxes sitting around.

Joan, stop throwing those rum and vodka bottles in the trash. Your neighbor wants them!

Maybe this is TMI, but I just got my colonoscopy instructions and I am taking WAY more laxative over a longer period than David had to a couple weeks ago for his colonoscopy. I feel nauseous and clammy just thinking about it. I guess I call the office next week and discuss prep.

We separate and recycle here but the State does not refund on bottles. You have to take them to CT or MA to do that.

Cherie, is it the same Doctor doing the colonoscopy?

SuzeQ, that was funny about my name. I did live in Virginia for 6 1/2 years at one time. I lived in Alexandria, just outside of D.C. and worked at the Pentagon which I enjoyed.

Actually, I am not called Virginia very much. I am glad because I do not like the name. However, it helped that I was named after the only Aunt I ever had. My Father had no Sisters and Mother had one, so that is how it came about. The reason I am not called that too often is because I was named "Sister" by older brother when I was born. He could not say my name. So my parents and Grandparents started calling me Sister also. Now that they are gone I still have my brothers, my oldest and middle brothers call me Sister and my youngest calls me Sis. My four nieces and four nephews all call me "Aunt Sister". (Yea I know it sounds crazy, but remember this is the South). They started calling me that because that is all they ever heard their Father's say.

Growing up, in school and by friends, I was mostly called Ginny and Gin, but when I got out and went to work I had to sign everything by my real name, so I became Virginia to co-workers, friends and neighbors. When we go out to eat on the week-ends most everything is done by e-mail and is always started by my middle brother. He sends out an e-mail to all in this area and says something like "Anyone for Winston's Saturday night". Everyone responds yes or no, and he makes a reservation. He chooses the restaurant unless someone has spoken up and said they would like to go to a particular place. One time I sent back a reply to all and said "Sounds good to me" and signed it Virginia. Another e-mail followed from my youngest brother who said Virginia was going he wondered where Sis was. That's life in the South.

Going tonight with two brothers, both of their wives and one niece to a restaurant called Relish. I will have shrimp and grits. It is so good. We will all meet there about 6P.M.

Last night my middle brother and his wife brought me a dinner from the church. All cooked by ladies of the church. It was ham, green beans, sweet potatoes, a roll and two homemade cookies. So good. All food and work was donated by three different ladies' circle that decided to go into together and see how it worked out. They bought all the food, donated their services, etc. so all monies went to the church. I think they did very well. Both of my sister-in-laws are members of one of the circles, so guess that will be part of the talk tonight.

That's pretty much my life. Not very exciting, but I had a good life for a lot of years.

Howie, throwing all recyclables in ONE bin potentially ruins the equipment that recycles it.

If it's just "laziness", can't you just separate them out like a conscientious citizen and put them all in the right bin?

Gary, if you're irritated with the bottle machine, why NOT just give the bottles to the people asking for them? They could probably use the return of deposit, and you avoid the headache of dealing with the machine! You'd be doing a kind deed, and save your bp at the same time!

Cherie, can you check with the pharmacy?

GET WELL SOON, SALLY! WE LOVE YOU!

Wouldn't you know I would become the "trash king"?

The dumpster I do use is taken to where the real dump is. They may go through it and separate the recyclable items, but I really don't know.

And yes, I AM lazy. I don't have the energy or desire to recycle. Going to the grocery store, and putting everything away is a challenge, but I do it.

I don't even mow the grass now. I have a guy to do that now. Getting ready to be 62 soon, and having MS for 16+ years, all has taken a toll. I would love to be able to do many things, like recycle, but I just can't.

And I am not fussing at anyone, I'm just telling how I am, and not suggesting anyone else to do anything. Howie loves you all.

I groaned when I moved to this state and learned how big a deal recycling is here. You're really expected to take part--and I'm getting used to it. (They say you can get used to anything!) The stuff doesn't pile up that much because the recycling bins are right there by the regular dumpster. I rinse out all of the recyclable bottles and cans of course--that's required as well. I don't want them cluttering up the place and so I just trot them out along with the regular trash, presorted.

When I don't feel like bothering, I just toss everything in one bag and put it in the trash. Sometimes I just don't want to stand out there tossing things into the recycling. I know people here won't turn me in for this.

Virginia, I was a kid in the south and so I'm not surprised that you're called Sister. In my school one of the teachers was named Princess. It was her real name.

Now that I've thought about it, I don't buy anything in glass or even tin cans. It makes the bags too heavy, and presents the chance it will tear the bags. So I'm not throwing away things that could be recycled. So put your pitchforks away, unless you are using them on Agate!

Where I live, we can throw recyclable stuff all in to one container...although they are happy if newspapers and mags are Ted up in bundles. Don't as k me how they sort it all...but bottles, cans plastic, etc. All go together. If I had to spend any time actually dividing it up, I'm with Howie: life's too short to be messing with the garbage...

Thanks Cat. I grew up with the trash truck coming by, and just emptied the trash cans. They didn't care what was in them. I can't get used to recycling trash. That's a job market for the unskilled. At least, that's what the Trash King says.

Same when I was growing up, Howie, but I'm getting concerned about all the garbage generated in this country. We've become a throw-away society. It doesn't hurt me at all to rinse out an empty soda bottle and put it in the recycling. I don't mind doing my part to reduce waste.

I truly feel guilty if I do not recycle a scrap of paper or piece of plastic. I even recycle scraps of fabric. I think we were instilled with the whole recycling, reusing and repurposing ethic as I was growing up and it continues today

So glad to hear about Sally. The last email I got from her was on 10/27 and I was worried. Thanks Agate, for letting us know.

Virginia, I love endearing nicknames like Sis! One close friend calls me that. She knows I've never had a sister and we've discussed the special bond she has with her sister. Suddenly she started calling me Sis and has ever since. I feel honored!
My daughter has a friend whose real name is Lisa, but has been called Lovely all her life. Still is at over 40 years old! What a nice thing to be called so consistently that it actually becomes your name!
