Gary, thank you for posting a link to that story. I'm so glad that the person with MS wrote such an eloquent letter in her defense. What a shame that there are so many people with time on their hands and eager to pounce on people they know nothing whatsoever about!
I've never attempted to get a handicapped sticker. So far I'm able to get to the store, then plop down in a motorized kart, and off I go shopping. When I shop, at times, I have to stand to get items that are at the top of the shelves.
I think the battle is in my head, and only imagined that people may see me walk in the store, then use a kart. Or see me use the kart to carry everything to the car, take the kart back in, then walk back to the car.
Like the lady's response to the note, they know nothing about me, or how hard it is to do what I do. But these days, I just don't care what people think. If what I do troubles you, come over and talk to me face to face.
You may feel better after you do.

So many of you conversing since I last checked in here! We are at the condo for a long weekend and today is homeowner annual meetings for the Condo and each of the sub associations. This is my second year not having to attend Board meetings (David is doing it I'm my place) but I went to an hour and a half meeting this morning and have another hour long meeting in an hour. Then coming home to make baked mac and cheese for the homeowner reception at 5:30. It's been snowing here off and on all day but nothing is sticking. Love it!
I bumped up the Haiku chat room as I have discovered more Haiku that my Mom wrote in response to earlier dueling Haiku between Howie and me.
I try not to judge people who have a handicap sticker but....... sometimes you gotta wonder. And I have noticed a increasing number of the temp tags (with an expiration date) that are still being used well after the date. My doc says he rarely issues permanent ones, and the temp ones very rarely for more than 30 days. I try not to leave it accessible as they are frequently stolen.
Watching me walk no one has ever questioned why I have it. But it does seem that there are a whole lot more than there used to be. I was told by a detective friend of ours that they rarely enforce why someone has one. And he also said that in larger metropolitan areas if you know who to ask they are available black market. And few if any law enforcement agencies have the time of man power to "run" the numbers on the tag to see if it is being abused.
I stood in line at Walmart one time behind a couple that were talking about their ski trip they had just returned from, young and appeared in good health yet they were parked 2 cars away from me in the handicapped area. So yes I think that they are issued for hang nails and by Dr's that just want patient that leaves happy.
Gary, folks that see BBS1951 surf might be astounded if they saw her park in an HC spot at the grocery. They wouldn't know about the 6 hour recovery time she needs after a surf. She might look "OK" walking into the store.
The surgery is done, big stone is out of the right kidney in one piece!
The doc put in a bigger stent and kicked me out after two nights.
Decent roommate, AND I got to be a practice interview subject for
a second year med student.
They have no idea how adorable they are…so nervous.
Those 6:30 a.m. roaming packs of white coated med students
doing the rounds. And nerdy glasses.
My social skills rot after this last month.
Food was pretty darn bad. I think the hospital has farmed out
every aspect of food service in the hospital to a corporation.
just a little sad tonight, my beautiful 28 yr old neice commented suicide, down in TX , Katie is a adopted baby, and she leaves behind a husband and litte girl Maccala,, to young..she has been struggling with depression, and finally succumbed,,
Anyhoo,, we got Cat on the road to recovery,,Jendie hopefully, is doing well,, Renee facing surgery, Cherie doing good and hopefully keeps getting better,,
I get Botox again Tuesday,,do I see this working,, nope,,
so later gaters,,.
So sorry to hear about your niece, Peg. Depression runs in my family and I know it is so difficult to overcome. I will say my prayers for you and her family.
Renee, you've been sprung? They let you loose, minus a kidney stone? Congratulations on getting through that!
Now maybe you can have the stone at home in a lovely little glass jar for others to admire? (Somewhere I heard of somebody actually doing that.)
I hope the hospital made sure you have the care you need at home while you're recovering.
Sounds like a teaching hospital--some people find the constant poking and prodding by inexperienced med students to be bothersome but you seem to have had some enjoyable moments.
Something should be done about hospital food. If there's one thing that matters when you're trying to heal, it's the food you eat. I really care about this issue.
Again, Peg, so sorry about your niece...prayers to you and her family.
Sally, my prayers are with you to get well and keep improving.
Cherie, so sorry about your sister and will pray about her brain tumor. Hope things go well with the rebif and your neurologist and MS, as well as the colonoscopy and the diverticulitis. Best of luck with the GI and I hope things continue to be effiient with your heathcare. Hope you don't need surgery and that help comes your way for things around the home, etc.
Renee, glad your surgery was successful and best wishes for a speedy recovery back to normal.
Cat, sending your prayers for healing and recovery.
Agate, glad the cylinder is working and that you are sleeping well.
Jeanie, sorry to hear about your fathers suicide and your brother, your brother Paul, and your other siblings and I wish you the best of luck with choosing a new health plan and that you can keep your PCP. half priced soda - awesome!
Gary, glad your blood pressure is better and i hope it continues. i love garlic bread too and wal mart's great value garlic texas toast, but that probably won't help your blood pressure lol. my dad is an ex-policeman, so i have been excused from jury duty for that reason a couple of times...glad you didn't have to do it if you didn't want to. It seems you help your SIL allot and that's nice.
Howie, sorry about your brother with leukemia and good luck cutting expenses...the cable was the first bill i cut when i had to be on FMLA. I still love and have netflix and amazon prime though lol...i love tv!
Virgina/Ginny, Suzie, and Ann, It seems like things are generally going well for you and I hope it stays that way as long as possible.
Just got back in town late Saturday from visiting my Grandma and family, and I needed a little time to get settled in back home and to snuggle with the dogs for awhile lol!
Thanks so much for all of the suggestions and information on how heat affects MS, diet and medications.
My grandma doesn't have much time left, but I'm glad she waited for me. My Aunt Kitty asked asked me to stay the night with her at Hospice when I arrived and she asked me to bring her back home, on my own in the ambulance. I was so grateful and honored that I could be the one to bring her back home. My Aunt Kitty put her in Hospice because she wanted to get the house ready for full on home care...I wish she hadn't, but I have never been in her situation before, so I forgive her.
She has the two dogs and dog beds by her in the family room, she is right by the fish tank and she has a view of the back yard and pond and she can be with everyone in the family room. She is surrounded by love.
Two days after she came back home she said she felt, "wonderful", and the day I left she said she felt, "happy".
We actually made a few more good memories...one time she was trying to get out of bed and we asked her where she was going and she said, "to heaven" lol. When my cousin Cheryl and I lifted her out of bed to go to the bathroom next to her bed, she slapped my cousin Cheryl's butt when Cheryl turned around. She started to come back to life when we gave her an oreo dipped in milk lol. She was in and out of consciousness, but mostly there and I felt she always knew who I was.
So, it was good and it sucked at the same time.
Thanks again and I hope you all enjoy your Thanksgiving. All of Fred's family is in town, Grandma, Mother, Sister, Brother-in Law, Niece and Nephew.
:) Hi everyone. My son Jim came yesterday and put in a new mailbox post as mine was about to break from rotting at the ground level. Jim and Carla's 34th anniversary is next Saturday. Andy is slowly sorting Jamie's belongings. I offered to go over and help and he wants to do it himself. He is sensitive and I imagine he cries some doing it and does not want me to see him cry.
I am praying for all the ISIS people to have a change of heart and become loving people. Watching the Paris news was awful. So many families grieving. So many injured and many severely.
Mike thanks for sharing a photo of you and your grandmother. My friend Bill who is 86 in assisted living in Jacksonville now does not like the place at all. He says all the people there are very, very old and female. There are not even any male employees. He has to wear a coat to the dining room as it is so cold. He says he gets up about 6 and watches the morning news, goes to breakfast and comes back and sits in his room until time for lunch.
I call him each evening and feel bad for him that his brother and sister took away his car and put him there. He did agree to go as he was tired of cooking and shopping. I do not think he had any idea how it would be there. I wish I lived close enough to visit him. When I was in rehab a lot of the diners were from the assisted living side of the building and it did not seem like a place I wanted to ever live.
Renee and Cat I am glad y'all are doing better. Jeanie :)
Don't you love having good days? But if you're like me, you end up doing too much.
Yesterday, I fell into my DVD and CD stand. Not too much damage there, but on my way down, I grabbed a floor lamp I have with several shelves built into it, and trashed the bottom shelf supports.
So today, I took the bottom shelf and supports off, and now it sits on what used to be the second shelf from the bottom. It's shorter, but is as tall as the DVD, CD stand. I really like the look.
I'm sure I'll be tired and sore tomorrow, but it feels good to have done that little project today.
Everyone have a great day, and watch your step.
Watching steps... My middle son spent this past weekend with me, as I was walking from the dining room to the bathroom, my right foot hooked out and I snagged the rear wheel of my rollator, down I went, slowly. It wasn't a crash to the floor, but it still was a fall none the less, adrenaline pumping and mentally shaken. <smh>
My kids and the dog came over to check on how I was doing, plus help me up if I requested it. I hate this disease.
