Sorry you haven't been well, Virginia--and I hope your brother will be all right too. A trip to the ER can be scary but it's good if he was able to go home with a recommended change in medicine dosage.

92 degrees right now, but it looks like cooler temps will be starting after today. That's good because I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow. Nothing new, just getting refill scripts for all my meds.

He sits with his laptop, and as he looks at each bottle, types in the renewal, and asking anything he needs to know like why I stopped taking the Lyrica. He may prescribe something else, we'll see.

Also listen to my poor broken many times heart, and may order a blood test. After that, I get my visit all typed in from his laptop info instantly, and home I go. So exciting....zzzz zzzz.

Hope the visit goes as "laid back" as you think it will Howie. That is the kind you want, unless you are going for something that they will not pay any attention to.

Jendie, will Seattle not be a long way for you to go for a Doctor's appointment?

Virginia, depending on traffic, it's a 1-2 hour drive to go to Seattle to see the MS specialist. Living out in the sticks, we don't have many specialists here. The 75 mile drive is worth it, especially when I get to eat at one of the restaurants in Seatown, or do a little shopping. If I'm going to go spend some time in Seattle, I might as well make it worth while, beyond seeing the specialist. Maybe go to my favorite cupcake shop or the cannoli shop... There's a nice authentic Italian restaurant in Anacortes, but they don't sell cannolis.

I'm getting ready for our week in Truro on Cape Cod. Lots of up and down stairs.

This past weekend was MIL's birthday. Also 92 like my mom. We took her shopping and for a light lunch on Saturday. On Sunday we went over and gave her gifts and took her to a fish restaraunt (Leagal Seafood). I had salmon. She and Peter had scrod.

Then we took her for a drive out Rt 9 to Walmart. Yep, given her choice that is what she wanted for her birthday.

We returned home all exhausted.

That is why you're going to see the doctor, right? A checkup on his health?

Doctors need to be kept healthy.

ANN, you took your MIL on a ride down Route 9? I used to live right near Route 9, near enough to hear it. It's probably much busier now.

Anyway, I hope that she had a good time on her outing!

Jendie, you're smart to combine the trip to the remote neuro with some special treats for yourself. It will certainly help to make the whole experience more pleasant.

It has literally millions of photos for every room you can think of. You don't have to join anything to look. Here's the link. Good morning all!

I went to bed around 8 last night. Not because I felt bad, or was worried about seeing the doctor, but because Tuesday HAS to be the worst night for TV. There was absolutely nothing on I cared to watch.

So I took my good old, dependable sleep pills, turned off the lights, and gone.
I've had quite a few nights lately, I didn't even have to take them.

Sunny, but not quite as hot as it's been, I hope the means Fall is on the way, I'm VERY tired of being hot all the time. AND hearing the AC running. I can feel the money disappearing out of my pocket every time it clicks on.

Grumpy today, aren't I?

I wonder when they were going to tell the patients? So I'm having an early beer in his honor. CHEERS!!!

My dear sister is working on finding a map online that shows where he is, but if all else fails, she said she can take me. Once I've been some place, I can always find it again, but written directions or maps....it's doubtful.

You need GPS, Howie! It tells you every turn to make and somehow gets you there. The van drivers I use all have it. This might be too pricey for just a few trips now and then but:

A few years ago my primary care doctor did the same thing. I went to my scheduled appointment, setting up the van ride in advance, and the van took me to her address--and there was a sign on the door saying she'd moved.

When I asked at the desk why I didn't know about the new address, I was primly told, "We notified all our patients."

I was really irritated, particularly since the new address she'd moved to was much less wheelchair-accessible than the old one.

And much farther away for me.

This kind of thing has happened so often that I wonder if doctors and dentists deliberately discourage the less affluent and chronically disabled patients. We're a drag on their economic plans. They have to go through all too much paperwork and wait too long for reimbursement from Medicare and Medicaid, and those privately paying people are ever so much easier.

In fact, Howie, I've reached the point where every time I make an appointment, I try to remember to ask if they're at the same address. I give the actual address and make sure it matches the one they're giving out.

A game of hide-and-go-seek? Where is your doctor hiding this time?

I've shown up for an appt. only to discover he wasn't in the office that day. His assistant claimed she tried to call me but I was home all day. She didn't even leave a message. I think they were just trying to get me to go away.
