Does anyone here belong to one of the many exercise clubs or fitness clubs, where you pay annual dues and get to use their gym and even (I think) swimming pool?

Just wondered if anyone finds it useful.

Heheh, it's been so long since I've been on a bike, I'd even forgotten how to spell it correctly!

I did another mile today. The thing I find about exercise that sucks is that when you're so out of shape, you really suffer when you do it. It's a powerful deterrent to want to do it again. Throw MS into it, and it's even more painful and agonizing. It affected my sleep, I was awake all night in pain. Of course that made me a mess today after a sleepless night. What a vicious, nasty disease this is.

I will keep doing it, Virginia. I don't like where I was headed by avoiding it. I may reach a point soon of no return if I continue along the same path. So, exercise, I will do. I even hate that people without MS can be couch potatoes and not suffer the same consequences that I do.

Agate, I've always preferred to get booklets of admissions to health clubs rather than full membership. I've just found that there were times where I felt too unwell to go for significant stretches, and then I'd feel guilty for not going. I just don't think it's good for my mental health to put that pressure on myself. Buying just booklets meant a higher price, but more freedom.

I didn't even know you could buy booklets, SuzE-Q. I've heard only about rather hefty annual membership fees. Yes, I'd have felt very badly about not using that membership to the max if I'd paid that much for it.

That's amazing Suze! You get credit here for any distance, and any time, and any motion. We all know what we are all up against!

I belonged to a health club a couple of times before being diagnosed. When I was diagnosed I was a member of one and they would not cancel my membership. I got my Doctor to write a letter so I could get it cancelled. I didn't want to pay the monthly fees for 3 years for something that I then realized my problems were coming from something that was not related (at that time) to deconditioning.

I always hated going, but used it in bad weather because they had a walking track. I also used it a few other times just to work on the machines, but I really could not do them and couldn't figure out why until I met my Neurologist and he said "You have MS".

Suze-Q, you are doing so great.

Yesterday was a challenge for me, and at the end of the day the pedometer said I'd done 2503 steps. That's probably a record for me.

It's a long and boring story but yesterday was the day when I had to wind up the housing recertification papers. Before that appointment I thought I could do a load of laundry, using the credit/debit-card system.

The system wasn't working well. I lost at least a dollar, maybe several dollars, trying to get it to work and wound up air drying all my laundry.

A technician had to be called to fix the problem but the managers won't be here until next week some time, and so I'm the one who volunteered to let the technician in if/when that person shows up any time in the next business days.

Last night this arrangement caused some problems when I thought I might have let someone unknown into the building accidentally, and I was scurrying around (with my rollator) trying to find this person. I never found him but I put in plenty of steps.

I've spent today getting over that experience. The steps themselves actually probably weren't the tiring part. It was more the stress of too much going on in one day, I'm sure.

Yikes, agate, that's not the way we want to increase our heartrate!

I hope it was the right guy and it's all fixed. I'd like to think the odds of you letting in some random guy during the time you were tasked with letting IN some guy at all should be extremely low. Then again, how funny that we've just finished a conversation about the merits/risks of using debit or credit, and you run into a problem using debit!

I'll let you count all those steps for me too since I've been resting!

I never found out who it was but since nobody had a breakin or an attack, I'm assuming he was some guy who misread the sign and was entering the building as somebody's guest.

I'm still on duty until the repair guy shows up. If he doesn't appear tomorrow, I'm guessing he won't be here till Tuesday, and by then at least one of the two managers will be back.

I paid all my bills, then went to the ATM and got cash to buy groceries, all on my debit card. I don't have or want a credit card. Too easy to get in debt.

                      You've done all that today?

That is so impressive even allowing for the time difference. I haven't had breakfast yet and am still thinking about ironing. I'm a long way from actually doing anything.

Pedometer readings for August, based on 27 days: 1,401 steps taken on average

About like July (1434) and better than June (1238).
