Not surfing, Bbs, but love watching the paddle boarders. My back aches watching, tho.

When I do squats I do not get on the floor. I stand with my feet hip width apart, hold my hand out straight in front of me and just squat down until my knees bend enough that I am kind of even with my rear. I do not go all the way to floor. Why are ya'll trying to do that? If you go that far down it will ruin your knees. How many squats do you do each day Agate?

BBS, wonderful day on the water yesterday. Good for you.

Ann, great day on Peter's shoulders. Good for you - maybe bad for Peter.

The PT told me to squat, then sit down on a chair, or pretend I'm sitting down on a chair. I pretend because no chair is handy. I'm not supposed to go down any farther than that. I couldn't, anyway! (I tried.)

Agate, that is far as I was talking about going down. I thought some were talking about going all the way to the floor. How many do you do at a time?

I do 10 a day, rain or shine. It's the most difficult exercise I have to do. It will ruin my knees, you say?

I hope not because I haven't been able to get up from a kneeling position for many years, and that may say something about the condition my knees are already in.

Well, Agate it did ruin mine, however I was going real low to begin with. The PT watched me do it and did not tell me not to so I kept it up. She had me doing 30 two times a day - 60 in all. I think she had me doing too many. It did strengthen my legs some, but it was too much and this has only been a few years ago, so I was probably about half way through my 70s. My knees, especially one of them begin to swell and got worse and worse and hurt a lot. Then I finished the one that was really bad off. I got down on the tile floor in my bathroom (without any knee padding) and cleaned the bottom of my shower. That was the last time I did that and it was then that I hired the maid that comes every other week and she always cleans my shower. Never too old to learn, I guess.

Virginia, 60 squats a day sounds really excessive to me!

The better PTs I've had have always said that for any exercise they prescribe, I should stop doing it if it's painful. It sounds as if you were expected to push on through the pain.

Sounds like that PT was off her rocker.

I rode 2 miles on a stationery bike yesterday!

Two miles should about do it for the year, I'd think, SuzE-Q, but that's just my opinion. That's a lot of miles!

Every time I've been on a stationary bike, it was recorded as the length of time, usually 10 minutes max. I didn't think to ask if that could be converted to miles.

                              Or fractions of miles!

Suze-Q, two miles is great. Yep you're good for the year, however go ahead and do it again every time you can so you can build up your credits here. That is how I feel when I do more than usual and report it here.
