In addition to my trip today to the florist I also went to Fresh Market. I stopped by my house and put my orchids in the house so they would not get messed up in the car. Also, it was hot. After I went to the Fresh Market I had a couple of items that needed to be put in refrigerator so I once again stopped by the house and did that. Then I went to the grocery store. I didn't do much shopping, but walked over the store getting the few items that I did get.
Orchids are kind of persnickety, aren't they? I used to live across from a greenhouse, and in one of the rooms there were orchids growing up in the trees. I have the impression they're fairly delicate.
One of my distant cousins grows orchids. He's completely obsessed and has quite an elaborate setup. It's fairly expensive as I understand it. The ones from the grocery probably won't last all that long.
Whatever happens around you, don't take it personally. Nothing other people do is because of you. It is because of themselves. -- Miguel Ruiz
Nice job Virginia!!
Wish I could do That! I hurt just reading of it!
I woke up yesterday, feeling awful, so, I said, "No Excuses! No Fear! Get going, let the future take care of itself."
The forecasted thunderstorm didn't materialize. There was an cold water upwelling, air was cloudy, balmy with 10 mph offshores, perfect knee high clean waves.
What a wonderful group of 20 only locals were out there. Even though the waves were only knee highs, some of the better surfers were on it.
My crew helped me get to the ocean. As soon as I paddled out, the fear dropped away. I have worked up to almost an hour, with a ten minute rest in wheelchair. I cant sit on my board, but can paddle out, wave to everyone and catch waves, knowing the clock is ticking. Life is like that, right? It helps to know that in life the clock is always ticking...I dilate my mind to enjoy the beauty.
Each missed wave engages core muscles, takes away from my body's ability to paddle for another one. So, I try to be in position every time. No room for error.
But there were two floaty knee high lefts that made the effort all worthwhile! I just love that acceleration and lifting of the board-- just cannot get enough of it! I may have to stay on waves waist high and under. I dont think my body can withstand a wipe out on bigger waves. But, thats okay, whatever it takes to stay salted!
The locals know what I am up against, So, its a real morale booster to get an eruption of woohoo! For each successful ride, and a "GO GIRL" Its huge!
Afterwards, yesterday, someone unsolicited, put me on the 4 wheeler and blasted me to the parking lot! What a gas! This was like Mr. Toads wild ride as we careened at full speed down the boardwalk path. I was laughing , feeling terrified and also so free and amazed! Wish I had one of those!
Another day in paradise doing something I love with people I love! There is still beauty in this dark, dark world. So many sources of light.
It really is true that Surfing is Life, and is "the Source".
I just might be inspired to scour the bathtub today as I think about all that you're able to do. I'd already decided it didn't need cleaning, but I could use the exercise, and I'm sure it wouldn't be harmed by being cleaned up a bit.
Yesterday I did some ironing and did a fairly thorough vacuuming even though it was a hot day. I got it out of the way in the morning before the heat set in.
The PT exercises I'm still doing seem to be helping--the squats particularly. The squats aren't done with weights, and I have to hang onto the counter, but they're a definite "challenge" to my leg muscles.
Anytime I have to do some kind of chore that requires me to squat, I just sit on the floor. Then if cleaning something long, I just scoot along until it's done, then hang on to it, and pull myself up. I just can't squat.
"Given the millions of billions of Earth-like planets, life elsewhere in the Universe without a doubt, does exist."
I can't squat either except in this carefully controlled exercise prescribed by the PT. I have to hang onto the counter, and each one takes a lot of effort but over time it's been getting just a tad easier.
Sitting on the floor isn't an option but I get my kneeling pad and kneel and make sure there's some sturdy piece of furniture nearby so I can pull myself up.
This year our favorite beach has a sharp drop off of about 6 feet to get from parking lot to sand. It is just slightly angled and was covered in asphalt. I was able to get down to the beach by walking down w my hands on Peter's shoulders. I walked around to the low side to get back up to the parking lot at first.
Yesterday and today I rappeled up and down using rope tied to cars/trucks. ;-)

If I squat, or try to get onto the floor, or try to rise from a low chair, my legs spasm. Yuck
