Nothing was said about cats but surely they have to allow cats there. There must be Martian mice that cats would be useful in disposing of.

If they get there, Mars astronauts will face a lonely life of danger, subsisting for extended periods on dried and canned food. They will get some of their water by recycling their urine. They will have to take care of sickness and injuries themselves.
    ...

Once selected, a group of 40 astronauts will undergo seven years of training.
The flight to Earth's neighbor, with its barren red desert landscape and thin carbon dioxide atmosphere, sounds almost worse than a lifetime on it. The crew of four will be cooped up on a rocket for seven months with a limited supply of food and water.
    It also might smell bad.
"Showering with water will not be an option" on the journey there, according to Mars One's website.
Seven years of training? You can't just hop on board and you're in for the next 7 months, then you land there and you're on Easy Street from then on?

No more trips to anywhere since you can't bring your car.

I don't know how you're going to get along there, missing Pinky as you will, but those seven years of training might toughen you up so you can put up with just about anything.

Virginia, you're right--it is just a one-way deal. I'm not sure where all of the food will be stored for the long trip but have you seen MREs?

Who says MS support boards aren't useful any more?

:) I just spent an hour on the phone with AOL and allowed the lady to access my computer and she reinstalled AOL and all my screen names and favorite places. Yay! Because I am on DSL it takes longer to download things. I am just happy to have it fixed.

Yesterday Andy came and helped me get the utility room back to where it is easily accessible for me to wash, dry and fold clothes in there. The only things left are all the leaves down on the ground and driveway and the two aluminum roof panels hanging down to the ground need to go back up. They are bent in the middle.

Today is a do nothing day for me. I am very tired and my left ankle is twice the size of my right one. I will try to keep it up.
Thank you all for being here. Jeanie :)

Some good progress Jeanie! Sorry to hear about the ankle though.

There is such a thing as post hurricane stress. The body ran on adrenaline and made cortisol for a couple of weeks, and now the body pays for it. Be good to yourself

Glad you're getting things put back together, Jeanie! You veterans of hurricanes are probably used to being thrown around in strong winds but it still has to be very stressful.

Hope you can go easy on the ankle.

:) I just spent another 45 minutes on the phone with AOL because I could not open my main screen name. Now it has a new password. Their hold music is awful. When I got their satisfaction survey, I put change your awful hold music to a violin or piano and not so jumpy.

I laid down for awhile with my foot up and will do that in a bit again. So nice to get back here easy.

One farmer here had the dyke around Lake Okeechobee flood his fields and all his cows are standing in water. Other farmers are trying to help him get them moved to a neighbors field. Several cows are dead and this is calving season. Jeanie :)

Did the dead cows drown because they were just calves? My sister raises cattle, and a single loss is felt.

:) The news did not say only that several cows were dead. Jeanie :)

Jeanie ~ So glad that you got your computer sorted out, and that other things are slowly coming together for you.

Are you icing your ankle a few times a day, while it is elevated, for 20 mins at a time? Do you have a compression wrap? Do you have Witch Hazel? If you have Witch Hazel, try soaking a paper towel with it, wrap that around your ankle and either tape it or use a compression wrap to hold it in place. It is a natural anti-inflammatory. Always works for me.

:) Rose I did put witch hazel on it, thanks for reminding me. I have been trying to keep it up too.

Andy is here to do the yard and brought me coffee and a donut. Lacy gets so excited when he comes. He gives her attention, takes her for a walk and gives her chicken.

AOL changed me to AOL Desktop Gold and so far it works good. My favorite places and addresses are on now too.

I got a new catalog and there is a pair of shoes I think will work for my left foot so I will order them. The shoes I have won't stay up on my left heel and the other pair the elastic straps are too tight when it is swollen.

On the exercise thread y'all were talking about barbells. I have a 1 lb and a 2 lb. and my left can barely lift the 1 lb. I have not used them for awhile. I'll try again. Jeanie :)

Sounds like a good plan, MS takes so much strength away, and then through disuse, the muscles atrophy. Start low and go slow, as they say.

The only weights I have are the 3-lb. set. If those get to seem easier, I'll order up the next size.A doctor once said I probably should stick with the 1-lb. weights. I had started out with those a while back but they got entirely too easy as time went on.
