It was a hot day today with temp at 102, at least we got some rain with the thunder and lightning storm. It rained for about 30 minutes so it was a good soaking rain. I didn't sleep except for two short naps so I hope to be asleep soon. I did get out to the dr and get my T shot so I hope to have more energy this week. I also went to the store were we get our meat and got about 3 weeks of meat along with some cokes. Not much more going on here. I did miss out on the lunch with our friends from out of town since I slept through the lunch but they know my disability and what it does to me.

Another hot day but once again we got some good rain so we are on a roll right now. I got out and had my haircut of course the place it right across the street from our house. I fixed Penny breakfast since I was up and then she called saying she was so hungry that she was sick to her stomach so I took her some yogurt which is half a block away. I did go to the library and CVS. I hope others are having some rain to break the drought most of the Midwest is going through.1979 spinal issues, 1993 lumbar microdisectomy L3-4, 1996 360 3 level lumbar fusion L2-5, 1999 open thoractomy fusion T8-9,

I feel guilty saying we have had rain everday this week. I did manage to ge the yard in ok shape before it got so rainy.
I was trying to sleep today while I have help but that did not work. A RN that is filling in for my husband's normal nurse came ringing the door bell aobut an hour after I went to sleep. It has been just freaky today.
My SI joint is drving me buggy so I can't stay asleep. Hope you all have a good weekend. Karen

Karen, the doorbell rings or the phone rings just after we get to sleep doesn't it. Sorry to hear your SI is acting up. Boy did I have a wasted week sleeping M, T, F, Sa away. It is hard to get anything done when you sleep that much. Part of it was my mistake as Thursday I had a haircut appt it meant I would be awake for over 40 hours so instead of falling asleep and missing the appt I forced myself to stay awake. Then to make matters worse I couldn't get to sleep until about 5 AM. At least the sleeps were normal and not the coma type sleeps I often get sleeping that long.
Things have really quieted down here Karen and I have to wonder how long before everyone abandons this site. I was hoping people would start drifting back but so many got burnt once too often with the shutdowns. I still hope to see the site come back but right now it seems to be a dream.1979 spinal issues, 1993 lumbar microdisectomy L3-4, 1996 360 3 level lumbar fusion L2-5, 1999 open thoractomy fusion T8-9,

It is getting really quiet around here and I wonder if I will be the one to the turn the lights off. The hot weather has continued but we are getting afternoon thunderstorms with rain every other day or so. I get tires for the SUV tomorrow, the sad thing is the tread still has miles on it but dry rot is the reason I need new tires. I drive so few miles the rubber gives out before I wear the tire out. I figure this may be my last set although I may need another set but surely I am nearing the end of my tire buying career. I took Emery books, she gets the Dolly Parton series, over to her the other afternoon. She sat us both down and had both of us going through the pages in each of our books looking at the animals on each page. She would name the ones on her page then point out the ones on my page. Megan says she loves to have someone read to her.
I wish everyone good pain controlled days and I hope a few of you stop by to say hi to me.1979 spinal issues, 1993 lumbar microdisectomy L3-4, 1996 360 3 level lumbar fusion L2-5, 1999 open thoractomy fusion T8-9,

I have the same worry about this place. It is not just this board it seems messege boards in general are not as active as they use to be. Seems to be the same thing that happened with chatrooms. It just seems like with all the social media the social part gets lost. I know where friends are going out to eat and say happy birthday to people from highschool but actual conversations just do not happen.
I have had a lonnng week with no help with mother from Fri till yesterday. The lady that helps is going to make up some of her time and sit from 7-5 Fri. There is some talk of me and Mr.Q trying to get out and go some place since our 12th ann. is Sunday but I think I would rather just sleep if my back would let me stay asleep. I doubt we do anything. I don't think we have left the house at the same time since April. I was going to go the libary and just sit and read for while but I saw on facebook this morning that they are going to be closed so there goes that plan. There is not much else to do in this town since they shut down the state park due to lack of funding. Not that I was going to go fish but it is nice to sit and watch the water sometimes.
I'm taking a break from yard work right now. I try to get it all done in one day so the extra pain isn't spread out. I need to go to town and get some gas but I sure hate to after spilling that can in my truck this spring I drive like I have a truck full of eggs. lol I'm going to get the yard cut but I doubt I bother with the weedeaters.
Your stories about Emery are always so cute. You should copy them & save them for her to read when she is older.
I guess I better get up and get back to work . A dang bug went down my back while ago and let me tell you I had to fight not to scream like a crazy person! I am not a nature person. Speaking of that. I don't know wheich night it was this week but I had been doing some mopping since I was awake anyway. Now our house is really one long room with the dining room on the back & kitchen in the middle. I guess when I let Toby in from his walk a frog came in with him. The poor frog did not know that he was coming into a home with four cats who live to chase anything that moves. I knew the cats were after somthing but I figured it was a moth or something .....till I went to mop under the table. The little green frog went to hopping with two of the cats right behind him. I could just see frog blood all over my white kitchen cabinets & freshly mopped tile floor if the cats had caught him. They went down one side of the kitchen and then back up the other side. Had I not been trying to get the cats away from him I would have been laughing. The poor frog landed in a cup of straws I keep on the bar for my MIL. Not in the cup ofcourse to make my life easy but pearched among the straws. So there I am trying to hold two cats when the other two decided to wake up and see what the fuss is about.
I found a basket I had got at a produce stand and eased it over the frog, thankfully the cup was sitting on a cooling rack so I was able to lift him up slowly and make my way to the back door. I just knew that frog was going to come flying out at any min and jump on me. My poor cats spend the rest of the night looking for him. I tell you I am about ready to go live in a condo away from nature.

Karen, hi it is good to see you here. I agree that the social networks seem to be the place now as I tried a spinal connection but it just didn't work for med. I guess change come to everything and there isn't much we can do about it. I got a laugh out of your frog story as I could just see you trying to corral the cats and get the frog controlled. Darn cats don't want to just stay still and watch they have to go after things so I know you had your hands full.
Not much going on here as it was a hot day yesterday. I did a little bit in the yard and ran to the grocery store but other than that not much. I only slept in starts and fits so I am ready to drop off for a nap now. I need the sleep as I have an afternoon appt to get my tires changes and I have to make it.1979 spinal issues, 1993 lumbar microdisectomy L3-4, 1996 360 3 level lumbar fusion L2-5, 1999 open thoractomy fusion T8-9,

I have a hard time getting here everyday but especially in the past couple of days. I didn't ask about internet access in the hospital but I wouldn't have been in much shape to use it until yesterday evening.
Surgery went well. I had an abnormal rib and a lot of extra muscle wrapped around the artery which explains why my blood flow was so poor. I ended up with a chest tube. At one point, they suspected I might be having a pulmonary embolism (blood clot) or a blood clot elsewhere in the chest. The surgeon was quite unhappy when he found out that the nurses didn't call him in the middle of the night but rather waited until morning to notify him (not sure they ever did). I didn't sleep once I began experiencing that pain and trouble breathing so it was a long 5 hours until he showed up at the bedside . . . He hadn't seen any notes from the nurses yet. The CT scan was ordered right away and I was getting the scan 30 minutes later. No pulmonary embolism just some problem areas with the lung.
I am home and really appreciate what nurses have to go through. They really appreciate it when they have nice patients who appreciate their work. Not all patients treat them well. I witnessed 1st hand a patient who I'm pretty sure didn't use her call button, just yelled for everything. Thankfully, I ended up in a room by myself (double room just no roommate) so I had the door closed most of the time. I still could hear her yelling through the closed door. I don't understand how her voice holds up. I heard she's been there for 3 to 4 months.
My husband brought the kids to visit me in the hospital. My daughter refused to come near me but she would wave to me. Tonight, she wouldn't leave me lap and used me as a juggle gym. Thankfully, she was tired so she didn't wiggle too much. I'm still sore but recovering quickly.

I'm glad your surgery went well but I hate you had to be afraid about the embolism. My sister had that happen after a pic line was put in wrong & it was very scary so I don't blame your doc for being upset. I'm glad that is not what was wrong but what actually was sounds painful.
I'm glad your home & I hope you have a speedy recovery.
Mark I hope your just having a few days of being busy & not having a bad time with your pain.
I am laying here debating how to get done the must haves today with as little pain as possible because the pain in my left leg is flared up so bad the last few days.
Hope everyone has a good Sat.

Ladies it is good to come here and see you posting. New Cervie I can imagine those 5 hours and I am sorry you went through it and can see why your dr was upset with the nurses. I am glad to hear that the blood clot concern wasn't the problem and that the dr found what was causing the problem. I have gone through the chest tubed and my wife was worried when they were taking it out but I couldn't feel it with no idea how long it was. It is interesting your daughter wouldn't come near you in the hospital. It sounds like she is making up for that now that you are home.
Karen sorry to hear about the tough week as it is tough enough for you with your spinal problems much less taking care of your elderly MIL. I hope the woman that comes in is better in the coming weeks about getting in on schedule so you get some break during the day. I hope you and the mister can get out of the house for your anniversary. Penny and I have our 27th coming up in 3.5 weeks.
I had a better week this past week despite not sleeping very well until Friday. Today was tough to wake up but I made myself get up and did a bit of work but not much. The kids got Emery and the coming daughter dressers for their clothes and needed some bead board paneling to repair some water damage on the dressers so I cut a couple pieces for them. I also got the side yard mowed and did a bit of watering. Not much else going on around here other than talking to my mother to make sure she was getting better with her bronchitis.1979 spinal issues, 1993 lumbar microdisectomy L3-4, 1996 360 3 level lumbar fusion L2-5, 1999 open thoractomy fusion T8-9,

Sounds like you have beeen busy enough.
I love how bead board looks, I would love to take and put it around our dining room area like at chair rail height or around the island that is the center of the kitchen. It is just plain white board and looks unfinished.
I did not get much done today except laundry. Every time I would sit down I would go to sleep for a few min which just made me feel out of whack all day.
Are you guys watching any of the olympics? I watched a bit today and the opeaning show last night....it was nice at first but got a bit odd when they brought out the hospital beds but that is just me.

Karen, we put bead board paneling here in our basement to dress up the concrete walls. I also did it to the stair well going from the basement to the main floor along with putting it in the upstairs bathroom. Can you tell that Penny loves it on the walls? I think the ideas you have for using it would look really nice and it isn't hard to use as long as you have some basic tools and skills. You might think it would be too much to do but it really is simple and there are sites on the internet that take you step by step through it.
I know the kind of day you had and I really don't like those days. It would be far better to drop off to some deep sleep or wake up and not be tired at all. Unfortunately our pain and sleep issues don't keep us away from those days and we have them too often.
I didn't wake up yesterday until around 2 pm since I didn't get to sleep until 4 am so of course tonight I can't sleep even though I am tired. It is now 5:30 am and I hope to get to sleep by 7 and get in a few hours of sleep. If not I will stay up and hopefully go to sleep early this evening. I have been watching the NFL channel for training camps and the Olympics. I switch channels depending what is on. I did get to see some of the beach volleyball, gymnastics, and swimming yesterday. The Colts camp opens today so I will look forward to seeing reports from their first day of training camp. It will be odd as 2/3 of the roster is new along with a new coaching staff. We needed a new coaching staff and although a lot of the former stars were let go I understand they couldn't keep them on as re-occurring injuries were a problem the last two years and younger players were needed. It will be interesting to see what they look like this year. They got lucky having their bad year the year that an acknowledge best QB to come out in the last 10 years [ I think Cam Newton last year and Andrew Luck along with Robert Griffin III from this year are franchise QBs]was available as Peyton Manning was injured and old enough he was too much of a risk with his contract. Enough of the inside NFL. I hope people have a good day today and are able to get out a bit and enjoy some wonderful weather as the heat dissipates a bit today.1979 spinal issues, 1993 lumbar microdisectomy L3-4, 1996 360 3 level lumbar fusion L2-5, 1999 open thoractomy fusion T8-9,

I'm looking forward to football starting back up because I actually understand the game now.
We are Saints folks since we are so near NO & I honestly don't know what to expect out of them this year after all the mess they have got themselves into.
I'm still so sleepy it is driving me crazy. I slept like four solid hours last night but I'm still just useless today. It is not like me to be so tired. My to do list is just growing like the weeds. Hope your all having a good day.

Karen sorry to hear your to do list is growing as fast as the weeds
. Yes the Saints are in an unusual position and I would like to see Coach Greg Williams banned for life from the NFL as coaching players to injury the opponents is wrong on so many levels. When I coached I told my kids you didn't want to injury the other guy but you do want to hurt him with your hit. If he is injured you don't get to hit him next play but if you hit him hard enough to hurt he remembers you when he comes in your area. Telling players to go after the body part that had been injured earlier in the year is risking a man's career. I am sure Coach W won't be banned for life but I think he should.
I haven't slept but I am doing okay. Penny and I are going over to visit the kids in a little bit. I haven't seen Megan in two weeks and it is always fun to see Emery. I am glad Darrin feels comfortable coming over to visit even if he is by himself. I want to make sure any in-law feels included because that is one shortcoming of my in-laws.1979 spinal issues, 1993 lumbar microdisectomy L3-4, 1996 360 3 level lumbar fusion L2-5, 1999 open thoractomy fusion T8-9,

Olympics - We missed the opening ceremonies but we have watched bits and pieces since then. My son woke us up this morning stating that the bike race in France was on TV and he wanted us to watch it with him. Once we explained this was the Olympics, not the Tour de France, he understood. We ended up watching some of the coverage with him.
Mark - I hope the visit with your daughter and grandchildren is good. I'm glad you're trying to make your son-in-law feel welcome.
MrsQ - I hope you manage to knock some stuff off that to-do list without aggravating the pain. I completely understand.
