hello everybody. Dawn, glad you have your "sun room" finished. I know you will enjoy it.
Pati, do you have an appointment for your eye surgery yet? Don't be frightened, all will go well and you will be happy to see again!

Jeannie, Glad you had a grand time in Canada. Maybe your long lost relatives will come down and visit you. It sounds like they want to keep in touch. that's good and I'm glad for you.

Clouds z, I'm happy to see you are posting more. You do give all of us things to think about. I say" thank you" for that.

I'm doing better, at least most days. I'm more active, but I do use my walker all the time now. It has 4 wheeles and a seat for when I need to rest for a bit. under the seat I have room to store my purse, a hat, umbrella, meds. I might need at odd times, actually for anything. Oh yes, last but not least. I know you all have heard that voice from Mama reminding you to always have a pair of clean panties if you go some plase just in case you have a wreck or something and have to make a trip to the hospital. So, I think I have all I need. If I'm just going out side I put my car/house keys in and my c-phone. I told y'all about falling outside and thought I would never get up. now I go prepared!

nothing new here, just 2 old people trying to avoid each other as much as possible. Love you all, Jo
Did you ever know that you're my hero and every thing I would like to be I can fly higher than an eagle

good to read some posts! Jo,I chuckled over your last sentence. and eye surgery is not an option unless I win the lotto. I've lost 8# & keeping my blood sugar in very good range now.

had lunch with my local friend yesterday. went to Goodwill & got a bag of books to read. it was cold & raining all day.

the plywood is being put on the roof right now! I can hardly wait for this mess to be finished & I've decided to make my housemate buy a bunch of hanging baskets so I can have something beautiful to admire!

everyone I know is so sick of this cold damp weather we are getting on our own nerves bigtime!

hope everyone will have a nice weekend!

Pati I hope you get your surgery. I am glad your roof is almost done.

Dawn I am jealous of your Michigan room and your fireplace lol. I have always wanted both. I want one in my bedroom that is open on both sides. The other side is in my en suite bathroom within close view of my very large deep claw footed soaking tub. LOL is that detailed enough. If not then I can go further.

Jeannie we always called it a MIchigan room. Make sure you keep your album updated
. I am so glad you got to reunite with family. I have Ukrainian family in Canada. That is where my Ukranian grandparents immigrated to then through to Michigan not long after my father was born. JUst the other day I was lamenting that my boys have missed out on what I got to experience as a child and teen with family get togethers. Many, campouts, trips up north to the family cabins, holidays, snowmobiling, family baseball games. I miss it terribly. Cj's family is okay and all but even he knows they have serious short comings, lots of booze and smoking and they aren't real careful because their kids were raised around it. So was I to a point but look what happens. Both families are filled with addiction, mental illness so the last thing I want to do is raise my child where everybody is drinking and smoking pot and looking like they are having a good time.

You know the hospital called me to get me set up for my surgery and asked for next of kin and it had to be a relative. THis is the first time since my mom died that I have been asked for next of kin and they wouldn't accept CJ. I don't have her as backup any more. They want direct blood kin. I didn't know what to say. I have three brothers and that is it. So oldest brother it was but now that my son is over 18 I can start using him. He may not like it but it should be done.

Oh Joy I am so sorry you are all battered and bruised. Where is your cane? I know taking it in the water is a hassle but if you are going to be wearing flip flops that are too big for you then you might want to take that along ;-) . We need to send you a 'walk and rest' like Big Queenie has. I have even been thinking of getting one because my feet are a mass of agony most of the time. I am barely getting my 'garden' watered. Which is growing pretty good but not fast enough for me LOLOL. Yes impatient.

Dee if you read this please pop in and let us know how you are doing. Leo! YOu have got to be doing better than what we heard last. Mrs. Jerome I know you stop in once in a while in other places so a hello out to you. There are so many. Sher what the heck happened to you?

Shortcake's last day of school was today. His school is closing. It has been Woodland Elementary for 55 years. My brothers went there and I have spent 36 years going in and out of that school or playing on the property. From the age of 11 me and the neighbor kids/people lived down there 3 seasons out of the year. If it was a decent place for sledding we would have been there then too. Well.......except for sledding off of the picnic pavilion. That didn't quite count. Both of my boys went there. Lots of memories. I took pictures and hugged and cried with everyone.

Pati I hope you get your surgery. Your HM should pay for it. Make him cough it up. I'll send somebody over to shake him up a bit lol. I am glad your roof is almost done. What a mess that must be. They aren't damaging any flora and fauna are they?

I got my cardiology testing done. I will find out the results when I go back next week. My mammogram came back fine. Still need to have a repap done but I want to wait until after my surgery. If I had a bad pap in November of last year will another month make that big of a difference with spotty cevical cells?! I don't know but I am busy next week. I just started getting my SS and they already want me to come back in for my one year visit to let them know I am still disabled.

Well it is almost 4:30. Don't guzzle a Caramel Frappe at 12:30 at night. I can tell I don't drink coffee anymore lol.

Christina, you are a real love. Get things hopping when we get too slack. I see all that you do and wonder how on earth you do it all in a 24 hour day!!

Just wanted to tell you I appreciate all that you do trying to keep Brain Talk going. Most of all the things you do for your little family. Yes indeed brag about that shortcake, he deserves all those things and then some. I'm proud of him too. I think we all feel like we are the mother too, but don't come up to par with the REAL Mama.

Your son B. I'm proud of him too. So, you are such a muther and you have more to brag about there too. Just an all around good person, we ALL love you!

You take care of Christina and all will be well.

I do love you so, Jo

I hear you about the "next of kin" My sister in law is moving to AZ in a couple of weeks and I won't have a next of kin here. I don't think Hank would be one I can count on. I'm to have a colonosapy (SP?) on the 21st and I will have to ask one of my church family to drive me. BUT.......................... see tagline, eh?

finally have a covered patio! and it's wonderful. I've spent the past 3 days outside reading & arranging furniture. more room outside than inside now.

my "to do" list just keeps growing. I can understand why people choose to live in condo's.

my weight loss has stalled but I'm still trying. I'm also following the arthritis diet, and have to admit I think it's helping. (nothing from the nightshade family, potato's,tomato's,etc.) tomato's is the hard one since I'm eating alot of salads.

some birds have discovered the birdbath is back.

Jan,hope your test is fine. I'm thinking "next of kin" doesn't mean they have to live nearby? hope so anyways as both my son's live far away. also doubt anyone actually read that stuff unless needed, probably could write in Mickey Mouse & see if they notice?

Ok I am curious why are things in the night shade family bad for arthritis?
I'm glad it is helping you & that you have your covered patio. We have talked about doing that. Our patior is not big just enough space for a small table, two chairs a grill that never gets used and a big lazy Lab.
I would actually like to turn ours into a screened in porch so you could sit out there and not be hauled off by the bugs.

My parents came down for a visit the first part of the week & I spent yesterday trying to get the house cleaned up So this week has seemed really short. Today is my last day of having help before the weekend where I have my mother in law to myself to care for so I'm hoping I can rest my back some.
We have our first system trying to get started out in the gulf to watch. I don't think it will come our way but it is a good reminder that I need to get our stuff together in case we do get a storm this year. We have not had anything to speak of since Katrina and I expect lots of people will be shocked to find they have some major anxiety when we do have to face one & I don't want to be trying to fight them at the store.
                  Hope everyone is doing well.

                    good question!

Karen,I don't know why nightshade plants are bad for arthritis. some kind of common ingredient I'd think-just no idea what.

hope you don't have a bad storm. being prepared sounds like a good idea. you'd never know it's summer around here. had the heat on this morning!

today we will plant a pink dogwood in memory of my housemate's daughter who died one year ago. she always wanted a dogwood & it's sad she didn't get one while alive.

neighbor came over a few days ago & let the boys out to play.....I hadn't seen them except in the van for maybe 2 yrs? anyway was sure surprised how they have grown! and what brats they have become! broke my watering wand & generally messed with everything in sight. I made them put back all the green space guys & my dog turned her back on them the entire time.lazy parents for sure!

hope everyone will have a good weekend!

Here is bit of simple info I found about the nightshade family and arthritis. Only registered and activated users can see links., Click Here To Register... I love potatoes, tomatoes.

Folks I am bored outta my mind. It hasn't even been one week yet. Not that there isn't anything to do lol. Of course I am just finicky because I am stuck in here.

It has been ridiculously hot here. My poor veggies. They are growing as best they can even though they are not in their right proper environs for growing. Tonight we are finally going to get a cool down to last for about a week and will be able to get outside.

Not much besides that. Just wanted to say hi.

I have a container garden. Kinda my first time. 3 tomato plants, one cucumber plant, a tub with green onions and a tire and 2 other containers of green beans. I have been pulling and eating the onions at will. The beans are doing OK and the first planting has flowers on them. The cucumber plant seems to be growing well. But I don't know about the tomato plants. Two of the are getting taller, but not bushier, but there are flowers on them (the 3rd one is stunted it seems) Because of the heat here I make sure they are watered and I used Mircle Grow once a week. Are container tomato plants less bushy?

                          jan,

i read that planting the root of the tomatoes and part of the stem parallel to the ground makes them stronger. to make plants bushier, you have to cut the tomato plant when it starts growing, so that it grows some lateral stem and leaves. also, tomatoes that are staked or have a cage over them tend to do better for some reason. i've done all these things and they've worked for me. it might be too late to do this now, cause your're getting flowers and that's the tomato, but maybe try it on the stunted tomato plant...you got nothing to lose with that one.

                          happy growing,

Chris, thanks for that link. it's kinda hard to find a complete list of nightshade plants. I'm eating tomato's but learning to do without spuds since not supposed to eat those anyways! a gal I've known for years suffered so bad from RA she was simply a sad sack. one year she was smiling again! secret was NO nightshade plants. so it worked for her & the difference was truly amazing.

Jan,we remove the bottom leaves on the tomato's. and have 4. plants in a small oval water tank, they are very bushy & with the chicken wire dog proofing I've yet to figure out how to remove those leaves this year. won't matter if we don't get some warmth & sunshine soon!

got the dogwood planted in pouring down rain last night. now want to get a brass plate for Lori's name.

I watched 7 hrs of "Too Cute" today! rain is keeping me inside. now housemate wants a Savannah cat! told him he can't afford one. HA

Well it is time to do some research about my poor stunted cucumber plants. I have three of them that just aren't doing well. They can't seem to get passed the 3-4 inches they are. They are planted in a 5 gallon bucket so I know it is not from lack of room. I did use different dirt in there. The bf bought cheap dirt *roll eyes and while I tried to amend it I don't think I did it enough and I don't even like the way it looks. Can I transplant them. Guess that is what will need to happen.

Sher I am glad to see you still here. How are things going for you?

Buttons where do you live again? If you don't know it is summer yet I need to relocate this 100 mess is killing me. How is the rental market? lol

Sadly I am only part way joking. Right now I would love nothing more than to pack my critters up and move far away. I had a therapist tell me that is what I should do ten years ago and I'm pretty sure she was right. The last few days have shown me that the people I have in my life are not good for me. I won't write a book but I'm sick of being expected to always be there for folks only to find myself alone. I don't know why I always let myself slip back into the roll of doormat with people.

Christina are your cucumbers able to drain well being in those buckets? I never had any luck getting them to grow in pots & the ones I planted last year made good except they were bitter. I don't know if that is a soil or moisture issue.
