Karen,I live about 60 miles north of Seattle,WA. everyone is sick of cold & wet weather here-however I would really suffer in the 100+ weather so many are having now.and yes-get rid of the toxic people in your life, you do NOT have to be a doormat!
just got back from my doctor. I've lost weight & my blood sugar was very good. blood pressure was WAY too high. I let him know how the lab next door had charged me 4 times more for blood tests! he whispered a lab I should try next time. in fact we had a good chat for the first time in several years.
about veggies: I just learned you are supposed to put bone meal in the soil before planting tomato's (and caution that DOGS love bone meal & will dig to get to it)& use organic fertilizer.
Chris, our cucumber's are dead. we live in farm country & have alot of fresh produce so I'm not fretting over some things dying.
removed the chicken wire around the tomato's & I removed alot of bottom leaves. my dog has managed to hurt herself & can't even jump into a chair right now.
housemate has offered to pay for one eye (if I pay for the other) to get cataract surgery. now the search is on for an eye doc to do it. interesting to find out some doc's do this through local hospital's & they charge by the MINUTE! nurse couldn't even get them to tell her how much the charge would be!
anyone planning a fun 4th? I dread the neighbor's fireworks going off for a week. all the dogs howling!
I'm disgusted with NBC dropping Ann Curry from the Today show! anyone know why? surely she wasn't too old?

Not much is going on here. The sun porch is put on hold for a while. The company was behind because of all the rain we've had. They wouldn't start until July 9th. Pitts. Well as long as we have it's done by fall so I can enjoy the fireplace.
The depression has been wicket again. It is now slowly departing.
Hope everyone is having a nice summer.
Pati, gald HM is going to pay for the one eye. I've had it done in both eyes because I had surgery in both eyes.
Pati, they dropped Ann Curry because of the ratings are way down for the today show. I was pretty sad about it.Last edited by dawnmn; 06-29-2012, 12:23 PM.Take care,

I had actually started watching the today show again after many years. IMO they chould have got rid of Matt and kept Ann. The woman that replaced her just goes around making jokes about how she can't cook....she is really to old for that to be cute. It is like she is a smart woman but tries to put on a ditzy act that I just do not care to watch. I think I will give GMA a try.
I'm not looking forward to this weekend. My pain is so high and I do not know why, usually if I do something I expect the pain to be worse but this is just for no reason. I don't have any help with mother in law over the weekend so I just pray for Monday.
Glad you are going to get your eyes done. My Dad had it done this year and the clinic that did his was great. It was an all day thing but he can actually go without glasses now .

rain, rain, rain. getting so sick of it!
Dawn, sure hope you get that sunporch by fall! it will be so nice-worth waiting for.
I'm going to boycott the Today show. replacing Ann with the lawyer was not right. Ann has worked for NBC for 20 years! she was very upset & I hated to see her cry like that. she will still be covering the Olympic's. I'm guessing she only had a one year contract as co-anchor? I'm also guessing she had worse ratings cause people don't want to watch hours of a morning show that has gotten rather predictable? I don't care for GMA myself so will be looking for something else for my morning TV fix.
I agree Savanah Guthrie is somewhat a giggle head. can't cook, doesn't have any kids, not married??-who do they think will relate to her?

About the cataract surgery -- I'm THE resident expert! The surgery only takes about 20 minutes, but you're probably at the hospital for 3 or so hours. Very little pain. The fixed focal length implants are working better for me than the fancy multi-focal & are cheaper. My insurance covered them & I wasn't 65.
I'm kinda hanging in there, Chris, but not knowing about the status of my mortgage & not having a renter yet is very stressful. I should be switching to the cheapest insurance today due to the dramatic change in my income, but the insurance company is screwing up once again. That seems to be their game -- jerk you around for 6 to 8 months & lie about when they received info.
I got caught in the big storm system on FRI nite -- all power out for 30+ hours in 100F heat. No phone. Hand-pulled generator that I can't start myself which only runs the refridge. Trees down everywhere. Cranky cranky cranky.
I haven't been here much because I've found a new obsession -- genealogy. Ancestry.com. Like putting together a puzzle w/ thousands of pieces in a mutitude of languages. Connecting w/ your roots & distant family members. Playing detective. Hunting down old photos & begging cousins for more. I actually started collecting info & stories in 1980, but the internet has made gigantic changes in what you can find now. So I'm hooked! Actually, since I've seen the photos, I have a crush on my handsome grandfather who died when I was six. He's hot!
I will try to post some garden shots over in "What's Growing".Sher
My Life Menu: CFS probably since birth, full flavored since the 80s, with Fibromyalgia, Major Depression with a side order of Anxiety and Agoraphobia sauce, Restless Leg Syndrome with spicy Other Sleep Disorders, 11 Eye Surgeries, a generous helping of Gut Problems

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. For my part I was driving home on Friday when that STORM hit my area, I was able to make it home alive but barely. Lost power until Saturday night (almost 24 hours), the temperature is 100+ degrees, house is super hot, husband and daughter got there wisdom tooth pulled, both of them sick from the anesthesia and no power or air conditioner to help them out.
Called my cousin said her power came in so we go to her house stopping every 10 minutes to get the sick people to throw up. It was the worst saturday possible. Thank God power came back but the neighborhood next to mine has NO power the trasformer or whatever exploded and it going to take until the weekend to fix, I feel for them very badly. My daughter's friend asked me if you could com and stay with us until her power is back, of course I said YES.

appreciate your storm updates. wondered about y'all. I watched the golf tournament in Bethesma (sp) & saw the damage on the course. nail biter yesterday until Tiger won!
trying not to gripe too much about the cold here when so many are suffering from extreme heat & those wildfires in CO are just awful.

Hi everyone. I am very thankful for the air conditioning unit that I have in my apartment! I bought it to fit the sleeve in the wall, and I pay $20 a month onto my rent ( for the electricity). Utilities are included with our rent, but AC is extra. It is well worth it! I can't tolerate the heat, and with my heart and headaches, it's necessary to have AC.
I had cataract surgery about 6 years ago...maybe 7...fairly young, but mine were pretty bad. It was a breeze. Medicaid paid fpr the whole thing, thank G-d. I now see amazingly well, and only need reading glasses. As I said, there was no pain at all. I had a wonderful doctor...so nice and so kind.
My volunteer work at the zoo (I'm a docent) does so much for me. It's wonderful being around the animals and I enjoy talking to the visitors, answering questions. I particularly enjoy answering questions from the children.
Take care. Be careful in the heat and be sure to drink lots of water!!!
love from Marion

hello everyone
I am cheating and being up more than I should tonight. A lot going on here and I am so glad I had my foot doctor visit moved up some as ther hole in foot is getting bigger and I have been down so good, not getting up unless absolutely necessary.
Pati I am so glad about your covered patio? but especially glad about you're getting HM to help pay for eye surgery. I hope he goes through with his promise and I hope you get an outstanding doctor.
Marion I am so sorry I haven'ty kept up with you, I do think about you and wonder if you are getting to see sister much and such. i know how hard getting to travel is for most people these days, cost and all plus other factors. Just know I am hoping you start feeling better. I am so glad you have your zoo to help. Believe me I have been alone more this past injury than I have ever been before in my life. Not getting to go to church or anything and hubby has stayed busy doing things at farm etc.
I have been worried about him out in this heat we have been having. I am so glad we have air conditioning. I feel bad for those who haven't got any. I was slow hearing about the outages. My sleep is so weir as I am in bed most all the time so sleep in short naps etc and there is no such thing as regular sleeping hours for me any lomger. It will be awful trying to get back into regular sleeping hours.
Well guess I'd best get back in bed. My feet are so dried out in places they shouldn't be because of the short times I have been in shower etc. I have such dry skin anyway and now places on feet are much worse for that reason alone. uugh dreading for doctor to see just how dry, bad the places are on feet tomorrow ut glad to get an assesment of that weird hold in foot. I already had one bone removed years ago so wondering what that weird stuff I can see in hole is anyway!!
enough moaning especially as I don't feel anything anyway. i do an awesome job of wrapping my feet with my dead hands as it is, I really do. I hope everyone is doing okay. Jeannie I hope things are good I am like veryone else, rooting for you to have some nice folks in your life for a change
. You deserve it, always here to help anyone with good advice and a friendly welcome.
MrsQ I hope you get some help and also your pain levels get less and less. gee nothing like not being here to make me miss everyone, I still think this is a great group of men and women as there is to be found anywhere.

have been blessed lately with the deer @ night! crippled doe brought her FAWN down! I couldn't believe my eyes @ first. got to watch fawn antics for an hour. so tiny compared to all the other's & the spots are still visable of course.
yesterday a male quail came onto the patio close enough I could have reached down & touched him. getting too brave?
I wake up & thank God for the beautiful sunny day with blue skies!have waited sooooo long for this! patio stays nice & cool.
housemate bought a new blood pressure cuff yesterday. I'm now taking my meds twice per day since need to get down 50 points. blood sugar is down very good still. taking weight off slow but steady. took years to get all this fat on afterall.
hope everyone has a nice weekend! stay cool....Last edited by Buttons2; 07-07-2012, 09:17 AM.

Pati, Wish I could see some of your wildlife. I love watching animals in the wild. Glad that your covered patio is all done for you to enjoy.
Joy, I hope your foot heals up pretty soon. Are you getting to the lake at all?
Julia, do come visit us more often. Miss ya!
As I sit here they are starting the sun porch! Yay, for me. It's been so hot here that I really didn't want to watch the guys working out there last week. We finally got to spend the night out at the lake. What a great weather wise weekend we had. Looking forward to next weekend already. We are going to spend time with friends at a lake that my girlfriend lives on.
She lives in a huge house so there will be quiet a few of us spending the weekend. Can't wait for that. I did get sunburned being on the lake this last weekend. Forgot to put on the sunscreen.
Chris, Please let us know how you have been getting on with your bed stay.Take care,
Dawn
