I use a great sugar substitute called Sweet Choice. It looks and measures just like sugar. But it's zero calories. I use it to make coleslaw. At Food Lion, it's where real sugar is. A great way to cut calories, but still enjoy sweet treats!

I've never had one so I don't know what they taste like but they are indeed a fruit. Here's the wikipedia article:Originally posted by SalpalSally View PostPersimmon? Is it red?

Persimmons are sometimes red, according to the article. The persimmons I've seen are bright orange (the large Japanese persimmons) or a somewhat paler orange--little persimmons that grew on trees when I was a kid. You just popped them into your mouth. They were really good, IMO. I've never tried the Japanese persimmons but have seen them in stores.SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. Glatopa (glatiramer acetate = Copaxone) 12/20 - 3/19/24.

Cat has started something with me. Since she gave that recipe for fudge I have made it 3 times and I have ingredients for 4th time. I am trying to hold off. No one here but me, so Ann do not worry Chocolate is alive and well on the forum. I, alone, can testify to that. I don't know how much weight this has caused me - ugh!!! Why do I not have more will power? I get antsy and bored here by myself and then I eat things I should not.Virginia

Being that both my kids are type I diabetics since the we young (son was 2 1/2 and daughter was Dx on her 9th birthday) we have learned to read labels and eat stuff without sugar. Thats was before fast acting insulin now it doesn't matter. The big problem with sugar substitutes was you couldn't cook with them, what ever you cooked with it became bitter. Now they have Stevia and it doesn't change when you bake with it. Except for your pocketbook it cost WAY more than sugar.
We love immune diseases (type I diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis and thyroid problems) in our house. I have always said that cheap vacation we took to Chernobyl wasn't such a bargain after all.
