I'm all for honey but with MRSA I don't think I'd let anyone but the medical experts treat it--I know we're all medical experts here in our way, and some have had some training, but I mean the medical experts who have had experience in treating MRSA, the experts who charge so much for their services to help pay for all the training they've had.

MRSA is no run-of-the-mill infection. A close friend and next-door neighbor (for years) died of it.

MRSA is deadly. Honey might work for minor skin irritations, rashes, etc.. but I think the doctors really understand the seriousness and deadly nature of MRSA and know that all the honey in the world won't do anything for it. I tried honey on my pressure sores, by the way....with no effect whatever. I'll stick to putting it on my morning toast.

With a quick Google search, I found references to the potential value of Manuka honey in treating MRSA (on the skin):

Manuka honey comes from New Zealand and Australia. Basic honey is not likely to be beneficial.

Both of my sons have had systemic MRSA (hospital acquired) and were treated with Vancomycin via IV.

The few, the proud, the Marines!

Good morning all! I thought today was Sunday. I guess I'm so looking forward to getting paid, I tried to leave a day out. It was a good plan on paper, but it didn't work out.

My pain this morning was about the usual. Took my meds, made coffee, and it's all gone now. TV and movie day. I still have my cat chores to do, but I have to get one cup of coffee in me to "motivate" me.

          Everyone have a great day!

It's a while till payday, at least from my standpoint-- 10 days.

Laundry is happening today. Talk about exciting!

This building has emergency pull cords in each apartment. If you can't summon help by phone or whatever, you pull the cord, and 911 is automatically dialed. It's great that this building works hard to keep those cords in working order, as they are doing just now. The system ran into trouble yesterday afternoon, with an alarm beeping in the entryway indicating "trouble in system." So until it gets fixed, a guard is on duty here around the clock. It being a weekend, the managers aren't usually here, and so there's the guard. This hardly ever happens but one of the two managers is here too, waiting for the repair persons.

This is so impressive, compared to the other HUD building I lived in for ages. It had the same cords but 911 wasn't automatically called if someone pulled the cord, and the manager's office didn't know either. Just the people who lived on your floor would know--if they noticed the loud alarm and the flashing light outside your door.

The problem with that was that most neighbors weren't able to do much to help. Some couldn't have called 911.

Several years before I left they took those cords out completely, just gave up on them.

Maybe we were supposed to get a wearable emergency call button or a cellphone, but many people just aren't up to that much technology--or expense. Medicaid people got the wearable emergency call button but some people didn't cope well with it.

Here they insist on having those emergency pullcords in working order. They check them routinely to make sure they're hanging straight down and accessible, not blocked by furniture. Some people like to get them out of the way and think of them as a nuisance.

If you fall, you'd need to fall in a certain part of the bathroom or bedroom to be anywhere near those cords, but the rooms are small, and sometimes a person can get over to the cord.

I'm so very glad that these measures are being taken to take care of us as get older and more vulnerable. I wish everyone who's aging or physically vulnerable could live in as safe a place as this one is.

Those pull cords are a really good idea, and I'm glad where you are now, takes care of them and keep them in good working order. They are important to have.

I'm glad I can still get around enough to take care of the cats and myself. I want to be able to stay here. I'm not able to mow anymore, but my sister hired a guy to do it. She takes good care of me.

I am going to at least start Pinky on Monday. I have gas for it. It REALLY needs a good washing. Cooler weather is starting, and I want to drive it a few times, then I'm thinking of selling it. But I may get it cleaned up, and drive it, and say "I'm never going to sell it!"

:) Hi everyone. I don't have a pull cord, but my house alarm has a panic button on it. In fact the remote on my keys for the alarm also has a panic button and they are always on the scooter I use in the house. The phone rings if you hit it and they ask if you are in trouble. If you do not answer, they send paramedics and there is a lock box on the porch that they have the combination to to give to the paramedics so they can get in.

Yesterday Andy, Jim, Carla, Matt and I went to the Cheesecake Factory for a early dinner. Both Jim and Matt have birthdays this week. Today is one year since Andy's Jamie died.

My van scooter is not holding a charge very long, so I guess I need batteries again. I slept until noon today and am ready to go and lay down again. Luckily I have no where I need to be. Nor anything I have to do.

Y'all all have a nice weekend. I hope our missing posters will check in soon. Jeanie :)

That's what there is here, too, Jeanie--a lock box outside where the paramedics can get into the building--I think the police and fire dept. can as well but I'm not sure.

Jeanie, I hope the missing people will surface again soon too.

Howie, you used to refer to Pinky as "she" but now she's just an "it."

I have a question. Is there ANY chance we could get paid on Friday or Saturday? And remember before you answer, I'm in a very delicate state having been broke all month, and not knowing why. Sniff....be gentle.

I had hopes for an early payment too but when I went to "MySocialSecurity" it says that the next payment is October 3.

However, I had to log in to my account to find that out, and the user name is set up so it's your state and ZIP code. Some areas seem to have different payment dates. If you don't have an account there, you might want to set one up at

You should then be able to find out what the next payment date is for your area.

If you usually get money on the 3rd and the 3rd is on a weekday, that's when the payment will be. They've changed this only once that I can remember, in some month when the timing was weird for some reason. Or maybe they made a mistake.

Sorry I don't have better news.

There's no holiday this next week, so it will be on the third, as usual. Unless you've enrolled and they instead send the check on or about the birthday: TC gets his check around the 18th.....

I didn't realize that was an option you could choose. Someone on here mentioned a while back that she gets hers towards the middle of the month.

Howie, are there any items you can sell? Books, for example? Or does your area have a food bank? It probably does. There may be several, maybe at some of the churches.
