Oh gosh, please don't anyone else mention singing to Howie. Have you ever heard such a voice? Poor little Sam!

Peg, that means the rest of us will probably be getting some cooler weather, but whatever you do please don't send us any snow. Does sound like good beef stew weather.

Virginia, poor San is curled up right against my leg where she is 98% of the time. I gave her a can of tuna today, MY tuna, and she never touched it. I guess it's just turkey from now on. Poor girl really suffers.

Does she eat chicken? There use to be a cat that came around here who would not touch chicken. She would only eat tuna. And this cat appeared to be hungry. Talk about wanting what she wanted and nothing else!! Since she appeared to be hungry and still wouldn't eat chicken, and I didn't have any tuna, I got kind of mad with her. She just went two doors down and that lady had a can of tuna. So she got what she wanted. Is that what is known as "the squeaky wheel gets the grease?"

Have a good night, I am headed to bed.

My cats like variety, so long as it's fish. They'll eat one kind for awhile, then reject it and eat something else. Then reject that and go on to a third. Then later back to the first. Then tuna...they love tuna...

Another mass shooting, when will this madness stop? This one was a littler closer to home. My youngest brother went to Cal Luthern College his freshman year. I can only imagine how terrifying this is for every parent who just sent off a child to their first year of college away from home. Sad, just sad.

Daughter called this morning to ask me to check the internet about news of a fire near her. The electric company had warned that they would turn off the electricity in fire danger areas during high wind conditions, in an effort to avoid downed lines sparking a fire. High wind has kicked up but there is a fire already. Don't know how the fire started, but now she has no electricity, which means no water (well pumps don't work) gas stations are closed, college and schools had to close, no internet or information, in other words everything is shut down. She only has a quarter tank of gas, which is a concern should they have to evacuate. She's up in the mountains!
I texted her to remind her to use her cell phone sparingly, she can't charge it for who knows how long.
She said it is dry as a bone up there with fall leaves all over the place. No rain since September, but it's gotten cold.

Between worrying about my family, politics and crazies, I'm stressed out! How's your day?

Nuthatch, I am sorry you are having to worry about your daughter and her family along with everything else. I wonder if she should try to get to some place safe now rather than later. I am sure the two of you have talked about that possibility, but yes she does need to use her cell phone sparingly.

My day has been, probably along with everyone on here, sad. Got up to the news of the shooting this morning and it just took what little zip I had in me away. I cried as I watched the one boy who was in there tell about it. He talked of love when there have been almost one shooting per day this year. I listened as one former law enforcement officer said that the only way to stop it is to have no guns, and that it what she would like to see.

I can understand how you would be stressed out with the additional worry about your daughter. I do hope she will be alright.

nuthatch, the news of that shooting hit me hard too even though I know no one in that area. There has to be some way of stopping this insanity so that people can go about their lives in safety.

Electricity is so essential--I hope your daughter's power will be restored soon but it sounds as if nobody knows when. Is there any option for her, or does she have to tough it out where she is? Not easy, I'm sure!

I can vouch for that after my recent power outage for 5 days. It is the pits!

Nuthatch, is that the #Camp Fire in Paradise, CA? The entire town has been evacuated as you surely know by now. That must be terrifying. I hope your family has a safe place to stay and can get back home soon.

Yes, Ann, the Camp Fire, but she does not live in Paradise. I just spoke to her on the phone and they are okay for now but without electricity. The fire is moving west rather than toward the highly forested, but less inhabited east, where they are. But that could change with a shift in the wind. My d-i-l has family in Chico, which is only 6 miles west of Paradise. Fire is so scary and unpredictable!

I spent the afternoon and evening anticipating, and waiting on my brother to call. About 8, I looked at my date and day on the start page which I've seen all day, but never REALLY saw it, just noting the day of the month.

My brother calls on FRIDAY! Doh!!! I'll hear from him tomorrow.

I hate to say how many times I've thought it was going to be Saturday when it was going to be Friday. I also wake up thinking it's Saturday when it's Friday. I don't make that mistake with other days of the week.

It's always a pleasant surprise when I realize it's really Friday instead of Saturday. It's like getting a free day.

Well, we all have concerns and burdens at the moment beyond what seems normal....it is good we have each other.
Makes me feel like I have little to complain about when compared to so many. We are lucky to have this place to come and connect.
