No snow here YET. It better not rain or snow on Halloween. There's nothing worse than a cold wet trick or treat experiance. I hated wearing a coat over my neat new costume.

Remember that housewith the soon to be towed car cuz it's been sitting in the driveway for 2 years. The reason the neighbors called the cops is that there's rats in the neighborhood & they think they might be in the car. John & I just went there today It has 3 flat tires & doesn't start. He reluctantly opened the door & found lot's of rotton junk. We went in the house & found more junk. John opened a kitchen drawer & we found millions of sweet & low packets (maybe his wife needed them). They were all chewed open & there was a bunch of mouse terds (droppings). Anyone want a Playboy collection? I must admit, I 'stole' 3 things......I opened the closet to look for the title & found his old jacket. Since the zipper on my jacket/coat is broken, I didn't think Joan (my SIL) would mind if I take it (she would love anyone to get rid of all that junk) and I grabbed two small santa statues. She wants Steve to move in & wants it cleaned so much, she will rent it to him for $1. Joan's DD called tonight & told us they can't bury him in Arlington without his honorable discharge papers (he was a lutenant) so we are going back tomorrow to get the military papers that we saw today as we went thru all the drawers of millions of papers when we looked for the car title. Well....gotta go to bed now, it's late. G'night.

      hey everyone !

has everyone come out cause it's close to halloween ?

well, no snow here, but it got darn cold the last several days. i have been planting some plants my girlfriend of 50 years (all the way back to 2nd grade) gave me. she lives on a big lot and her yard is full of tall skiiny trees. the tops of the trees block the sun and none of her perennials that need sun are flowering. she has given up. when she heard that i was redoing my yard, she asked if i wanted bushes. OF COURSE! so she gave me the peony that used to be in her grandma's yard when we played there as kids. the peony is over 50 years old! she took it to have a reminder of her "gram" and when it didn't flower, i think she took it as a bad sign. she's planning to move to a condo in a few years and she can't take plants, so she wants me to have them, cause i'm staying put here! she also gave me two hydrangea'ss (small ones) and a bigger one that i'm going to pick up from her house soon, cause it's just losing it's leaves now and it said in my plant book that hydrangea's can be planted late in the fall.

bella, i'm sorry about the probs you are having. my friends asked me for advice about their financial situation. i told them to file for bankruptcy. i don't know if they filed one chapter or the other, but it was the only way to keep a roof over their heads. it's a shame you have to fill out an justify everything, but if you want something from the banks, you do it their way.

leo! i'm so glad the nice polish doctor gave you so much pain for a while, but maybe set you free (literally)! i'm keeping you in my thoughts and hoping you make a full recovery!

lor, cleaning the house of a pack-rat is the worst thing! rats do get into houses and eat whatever they can. i clean my yard from my dogs every week, because i know rats like "dog droppings" too.

pati...fried green tomatoes! yum. all i do is slice them and sprinkle them with a little salt on both side and put them on a paper towel for a half an hour to release some of their juices. then pat them dry with another dry paper towel. sprinkle some pepper on them. make a milk and egg wash, one egg mixed with a little bit of milk (like 1/3 of a cup). then dip them in the egg wash and some plain dried bread crumbs (the kind in the round canister), or those panko bread crumbs. then heat a skillet with some olive oil in it and fry them on both sides until brown. i sprinkle them with more coarse ground pepper after frying, only because i am a pepper freak . that's it. i love those with baked chicken or pork roast.

julia, i still remember your story about a 90y/o woman who was still picking pecans off of trees (at least i think that was your story).

it's nice to see everyone posting! yes, it's gonna be a long, cold lonely winter...but i'm glad all of you will be here through those long months!

thank you for sharing and caring,
      jeannie

        Hey, all!

Mom is well, but stressed by my pain. Which today is in my pubic bone. (Which was injured, turns out. OW.) Anyway.... She's not had much to say but profanity re: my docs lately....

Other day I told her how I envision my depression as a "dragon" that whispers things in my ear like "Oh, a good day? Huh, if you enjoy it, you know you'll make it go bad faster." (Nonsensical, but if it was logical, it wouldn't be an emotional issue, would it?)

Anyway, Mom said very abruptly (she doesn't believe in psychology), "Just kill the dragon!" as if it is the easiest thing to overcome iwth a thought...

I replied, "Okay, Mom. I'll do that when you kill that little Pope you say lives in your head and scolds you for everything!"

Jeannie, thanks for sharing the recipe. I was thinking cornmeal rather than bread crumbs though.

one of my favorite movies is "Fried Green Tomatoes" bet I've watched it a dozen times!

I got up @ 6am today. not good, hate the long dark days. and wondering when daylight savings time changes this year? my calendar doesn't have it for some reason.

Lor, sure don't envy you digging through that old man's papers! I'd wear gloves if I were you. rats are not easy to get rid of.

this will be football day for me from 10am til about 8pm. hopefully some good games!

I don't know if this is the right thread, but Jeannie it was my story about the 90 something year old lady picking pecans. Some she just plucked them off the tree's, but she was also bending over and picking them up. I wanted to help her but she politly declined.

It's pretty here again today. Ken is having Caterack (SP) surgery Thursday of this week. He is driving me nuts. He has never been sick, well except for the arthitus. He is afraid I can not do things like he wants them done. He doesn't say that, but you live with someone 30 something years you can pretty well know what they are thinking.

My first marriage lasted almost 17 years and that was 17 years too long!! I forget I was ever even friendly with him.

Anyway about Ken, he did break his arm several years ago, did damage to tendons in wrist and had to have surgery. Man was he a pill!! He doesn't remember((he says)) but the nurse had to threaten him to let me go into the bathroom with him. One granddaughter was with us and she won't let him forget how goofy he acted. She had never seen her Papa act like that!

I asked him the other day if he wanted me to call Nurse Jennifer or the black headed 6 foot Jennifer that had a black belt in Karata and carried a big stick. He was not impressed with my talk. lol lol

I am going to call both of them but One Jennifer works in the bank and the other is in Nursing. Either one or both would do just fine!! lol lol

Just think about it, would any of y'all feel good being at my mercey?? lol lol ? sweet Jo lol*

Thank you for the advice everyone. I have provided the bank everything they have ask for, even when I find it absurd, we are now waiting to see what happens. The snow wasn't as bad in my area but the call is horrible,

              Happy Halloween everyone/

Jo, you are too funny, get all the help available I say. wish Ken the best for me. one eye @ a time right? and some good luck your way too my dear friend!

I'm gonna make a big pot of chili today & freeze some.

the birds have finally discovered the sunflower feeder.

my oldest son has Thanksgiving off so can go ahead & plan a dinner now. he'll have Christmas Day off also but that's too far away to plan yet. wild blackberries by my trailer are turning rust/orange & sure look pretty. housemate helped me do some winter preparation yesterday between football games. still haven't had a frost yet.

Joy, the latest (and last) Jean Auel book is out @ Costco, plan to toss it in the cart when housemate isn't paying attention! so get ready to read soon! (I'll mail it with the other one I've promised & has been sitting on my desk awhile).

hope this will be a good week for everyone! and have a safe halloween!

good about the books Pati. I have actually started back reading! I bought and read and shared with another the Help. I read that so fast, LOL which was so neat for me. I did not try to keep up with every little detail, like remembering just who everyone was etc and enjoyed it anyway.

So I went to library and checked out four books. Told myself get four cause if they are't interesting, I will not read it. I use to plow through them once I started them but not any more. Read one really fast. It was War Horse. A grade school book really but they have made a movie an I saw the previews. Granddaughter loving horses so much and all I decided to read it. A good book but it is a war book so don't think so for her. Not even the movie.

One was a book by the author that wrote my sisters keeper. I think I read it a long time ago as well. It is not reading as easy or interesting as I'd like so may just return it. and the other two are promising but I have been side tracked lately. But if things go well, I usually keep at it until I finish a book. No rush but I am tickled that I am interested in reading again. yay for me. You would just have to loose the ability etc. to know what this means.

Bella, i hope everything goes the way you want it too.

Pati, we are making chili tonight for dinner. We have it every halloween since the kids were little. It's such a easy thing to make. That way the kids ate before going trick or treating.

Joy, couldn't image what it would be like not reading. I used to love to read but for some reason I'm not plowing through the books like I used to. Right now I'm reading the Marriage propsal. My youngest gave me her Nook so I'm trying to get back into it.

I applied for a job at general mills for a taster. They just called me and asked a few questions and then said I may get a email with further instructions. I'm excited about doing it.
                    Take care,
                    Dawn

Pati, Chilli sounds good right now...mmmmmm. I'll make some soon.

Dawn, I hope you get that job! There used to be a GM near here & it smelled good. Alot of times it smelled like roasting Cheerios, in the air in the spring time.

I just came in half an hour ago from giving treats. Happy epilepsy month tomorrow & for 30 days!

Dawn, good luck with the job. and my chili recipe is not easy but I make enough to freeze for later on.

Lor, can't think of how long ago since I gave out candy......many years ago.

we had frost this morning. my body hates the cold weather!

                          thick or treat

Unlike last year, we had a lot of little goblins. It was fun, but I was getting so tired so I turned off the porch light. Some of the cutest little kids dressed in fancy clothes. We gave out a lot of candy.

I was going to put what was left in the freezer for the kids in their Christmas basket. Ken told me to leave a little out for him since he was going to have surgery. lol lol He will probably be sick tonight!

He is dreading the surgery. I'm beginning to feel sorry for him. He has been good while I put the drops in his eyes. I think he thought I might not do it right, but I guess I pass muster.

We will have to stop every 15 min. on the morning of the surgery starting 2 hours before the surgery. It's about an hour from here so that will be a bit aggravating. I'm sure he will do just fine, but for his sake I hope all goes well.

He is having his right eye done first, then about 3 weeks he will have the left eye done. Well, now that I talk about it it is past time for me to put more drops in his eye.

Take care all, Jo (((((( love you all bunches)))))

I meant to write Trick or treet, but I didn't see the thick until after I posted. So, I will be thick if I keep eating all the left over candy. lol

                            Hi everyone,

Jo we just went through those kind of surgeries with my Dad . Two in each eye. All at different times. But he finally passed his driving test 6 months late. I'm happy he can see better.

Last time I was around things were going so well and now I can't believe what big hole I'm in now. Seems like it's one major issue after another and from what I perceive it may take a couple of years to unravel. My life has hit bottom but I refuse to crumble.

                            Just checking in,

                            Dee

Jo, I had the surgeries done on my eyes and it doesn't hurt one bit. In fact I was awake for the whole procedure. Hope everything goes good for him.

Dee, I'm sorry things aren't going good for you. Hopefully you will be able to get out of your hole soon.

Pati, I just make the chili recipe from Betty C. Really easy and everyone seems to like it.

I think most people are taking their kids trick or treating at the malls. We alway had about 75-100 kids come to the door in the past. This year we had a whopping 15 kids. I had so much candy left over. I had the DH take it to work so I wouldn't be eating it all day.

The weather is starting to get cold here. They are talking about getting snow soon. Yuck! Why couldn't my family have lived somewhere warmer. Hopefully, I will retire so where warmer than here.
                              Take care,

had first snow in the mountains here. no way to predict if this winter will bring snow to us. I love watching it come down but it does get old after awhile. Dawn I would love to live in a warmer climate myself!

yesterday I actually sat outside reading in the sunshine for awhile. watched the little birds eating sunflower seeds. no idea what kind of bird but they have a pretty chirp/song.
