Scraps of fabric are great! They can go into quilts or serve as rags. And with the price of fabric now, there's every reason to save any you have.Originally posted by Cherie View PostI truly feel guilty if I do not recycle a scrap of paper or piece of plastic. I even recycle scraps of fabric. I think we were instilled with the whole recycling, reusing and repurposing ethic as I was growing up and it continues today
--When I was a kid the garbage was picked up by a woman in a wagon hitched to a mule. Small southern town--not very up to date even for that time! Kids, including me, enjoyed riding around in the wagon with her in spite of the flies and the odor. The wagon was filled with large garbage cans and several Dalmatians.SPMS diagnosed 1980. I think she did. Eventually she may have died (I don't remember) because in later years a family with a large truck came picked up people's garbage. She was fairly well along in years at the time I remember her.Originally posted by Howie View PostI'll bet she loved having kids ride with her. I would!
These rustic garbage pickup systems seem to have been replaced everywhere by huge scavenger trucks.
My kids missed out on riding in a garbage wagon pulled by a mule but at least they could watch in fascination when those huge scavenger trucks came barreling through the neighborhood. There was always a collection of tots hovering nearby to watch it operating.SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. Glatopa (glatiramer acetate = Copaxone) 12/20 - 3/19/24.

One of the big dumps when I was a kid, was finished off with a thick layer of dirt, and today has a school built over it. You would never know it was once a dump. That's why I don't care about recycling. It's used as land fill.
There was another one, that last time I saw it, was just a big hill covered with grass. I haven't seen the ol' hometown in a long time.
I did get to visit the house where I grew up. My dear Sister set it all up. I think I may have posted some pictures here. It was a great trip down memory lane!"Given the millions of billions of Earth-like planets, life elsewhere in the Universe without a doubt, does exist."

Back in our childhood, Howie, more garbage was good, clean garbage.
That garbage would be archeologically worthy 200 years in the future.
I hate the idea of putting styrofoam, plastics, chemicals and on and on
into the soil. My last rental was a cottage built near the site of an old
town dump where garden digging revealed old bottles and some perfect
100 year old coins.

Renee! Where have you been? Running all over this world...worrying us old folks who care about you, burying garbage for future generations! Would you just hold still for a while? Please?"Given the millions of billions of Earth-like planets, life elsewhere in the Universe without a doubt, does exist."

Renee, are you still waiting for that surgery to happen? Or maybe it's over? Whatever is happening, I hope you're not having to put up with pain. Kidney stone pain is one of the worst kinds of pain.
I don't know if you've been up to reading here but recently Dar came back--formerly bntgal here, I think, and now known as Jen's Solitude.
And there's Mike or mchlkirk77 who actually takes time from a life in the sun by a pool to post here.
Seen any snowflakes yet? I'm really not looking forward to winter. Even here where we don't get much snow, there are times when everything shuts down because of it.SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. Glatopa (glatiramer acetate = Copaxone) 12/20 - 3/19/24.

:) I'm with Cherie. I feel guilty if I put recycle in the garbage. We get a blue bin for plastic, metal, etc. and a yellow bin for paper. I keep a small box in the computer room for the papers and another for plastic, etc.
I take the computer room and bathroom garbage and put them in the kitchen garbage on Tuesday morning. Andy comes by that afternoon and puts the trash bag in the garbaage can and the recycles in the bins. He stacks the bins and carries them and the garbage can to the street.
Renee I am glad you checked in but let us know how you are please. Jeanie :)

Well I want snow, but hardly ever get any. I love letting the cats out in it. They're like kids playing in it. But it doesn't take long before their paws get cold, and they're ready to come back in. Maybe I could find some little cat boots for them.

:) Hi everyone. Howie I saw some cute little boots at Petco the other day.
We are still in Summer. No day this week is supposed to be lower than 85 and nights in the 70's. It is a lot better than a month ago though.
My light in the ceiling of the computer room is burned out so it is hard to see the keys. Andy will be here tomorrow to do the trash so I will have him do it. I tried with my grabber to unscrew the bulb but it did not work. Jeanie :)
