That's what you get for being so cheap!

Vicky, losing the computer scared me. This one isn't that old, and I couldn't afford a new one right now. It ended up being a power strip problem. Hard to figure out, but not hard to fix. The $1 was for the piece to fix the bathroom light, not bad!!! $0 to fix the computer!

Howie, have you been in my house today? The water heater blew! And the valve to turn the water feed to it off is not moving. Peter is afraid of snapping it off (happened to a friend). So, the water is off to the whole house. Yes, you know what this means. I did make sure to get water for coffee before it went off and an extra bucket for, mm, special reasons.

Ann, I swear I didn't pass it on to you and TC....well not all of it.

It must be that time of year! I hope you guys can get everything up and running again. The simplest things when they fail, can cause the biggest headaches!

The plumbers are here. I have been up for 90 minutes. I will surely need a nap today. I don't like people working in the house. It sets my routine off, especially sleeping. I am very pleased to be having a coffee w my yogurt! Small victories.

Oh, and the price of a water heater? $1400! Plus permit. Plus CO monitor. Plus that valve that was sticking. And they even charge to take away the old water heater. I must be getting special Friday pricing. I've used these people for 25 years w/o a problem. Never shelled out money like this.

ANN, how grim--putting up with the inconvenience of a plumbing problem like that! I hope that at least you'll have water--and not be charged extra for it--by the time the plumbers are done.

I hope they won't leave a mess for you to clean up either. At the price they're charging they should leave everything just the way you want it.

At least that 25-year record should set your mind at rest a bit. They're probably not suddenly out to gouge you. If they have any sense at all, they want to keep you as a customer.

Of course the water heater itself probably wasn't what ran up your bill. It was the labor, the removal.of the old, etc. I am fortunate that TC is still around, and able,,with a friend's help, to do stuff like that. A couple of years ago.our water heater broke. He and a friend installed a new one. Many cuss words and a few hours later, job done.

Poor Ann. I hope it's all done soon, so you can get back to your normal chaos !

At least it didn't flood the house, some people have had that when the water heater rusts out. That's why I keep track on its age, and plan to replace it a year before expiration. If it were to burst, it's upstairs and would pretty much ruin the whole house with water damage. Like what happened when Hurricane Jeanne blew off a small upstairs window!

                      Sorry for your flood, BBS.
Our waterheater is in the cellar. It did completely empty but didn't continue as we turned the water off.

The part I think we can all relate to is how it threw my day off MS wise. I didn't get enough sleep and even after a nap, I still don't feel right.

Ann, I can completely relate to what you are saying about throwing your day off as far as the MS goes. If I have to get up early to get something done around the house and have a workman here it just throws me off kilter with my MS. I do not make Doctor appointments until afternoon, hair appointments, nails, etc all need to be in the afternoon for me.

Sorry about the hot water heater. That is another thing that has gone up tremendously in the past few years. I had to have one and was staggered by the cost.

BBS, with a hot water heater upstairs you are wise to change it as often as you think it MIGHT be necessary. I had a friend who sold a house and right after closing on it she and her husband left for a week's vacation. Upon returning they passed their old house and carpet was on the lawn. She said to her husband "Why would they take up that beautiful carpet. We just had it put in a short time ago." Later she found out that there was a leak upstairs and it practically ruined the house.

Sally's basement flooded while she was in her house and she had to have it redone. I feel for anyone who has to go through something like that, but I just can't take it with my MS anymore. But then if something happens I am the only one who can do anything so I have to take it.

Sally, that was unforgettable! I believe you posted photos of the basement, maybe while it was being restored?

It's 86 right now, heading for 94 before the day is over. I hate high temps! Yet what am I doing? Drinking hot coffee! If I had half a brain.........

Coffee drinkers I've known seem to like iced coffee in hot weather? I've made it sometimes for people and it looks refreshing.

If I watered it down with a lot of ice cubes it might not make me jittery.
