Interesting, agate! I haven't heard of that before. Good tip!

And now all this talk about microwaves, a friend is giving me one she no longer needs at the office. We're going to check it first by putting a cell phone inside. Fudge for everyone!!

Thanks, now I know I will get the kind you cook from scratch. I always use a paper towel over everything I put in the microwave that does not have a top. My microwave does not even have a turntable and it really does fine (actually it does good). At least so far - it is an over the oven self vented microwave so I would hate to replace it. I have had it for more than 23 years.

I eat left overs a lot to keep from cooking, so I could not do without a microwave to reheat things. Suze, I will leave the cooking every day to you. I moved past that a long time ago. Yesterday I got up and put a pork tenderloin in the crock pot. When it was done for dinner last night I peeled and boiled some potatoes and got out some frozen broccoli. Tonight I will have left overs heated in the microwave.

I have got a nail appointment tomorrow, and then I really need to go to the grocery store. I don't know how I am going to make it. The temperature is going to be in the upper 90s and humidity is going to be through the roof.

Wish I could just stay home.

I could never gotten the information about bacon from the folks that go to Starbucks. I had much rather come here. Also now that Cat has told me how to fix scrambled eggs in the microwave, I can have eggs and bacon all fixed in the microwave.

I know how you feel, Virginia. I've been following Howie's lead and doing my shopping really early before it gets hot.

Virginia, could you postpone the outing? If you need groceries, maybe make the trip as short and easy as you can?

In recent years I've tried to schedule most of my routine appointments (dentist, eyes, hearing aids, lab work, doctor, podiatrist, neuro, PT) in the fall and spring so as to avoid the worst weather. Winter can be OK but summer is out of the question unless it's cool, and it often isn't.

I have one more appointment coming up this summer--a hearing aids checkup. The checkup takes only a few minutes but the trip is close to an hour each way.

I watch the weather forecasts. So far it looks as if Monday will be cool and I'll be going to the appointment. But if the forecast changes to something over 90' I'll cancel and reschedule in the early fall. I've done this before and have warned the people there that I might cancel and reschedule from time to time because I have "some transportation problems."

I've found that most places don't mind if you don't cancel very often, have a good reason, and give them enough notice (24 hours or more).

MS strikes me as a good reason.
              SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. Glatopa (glatiramer acetate = Copaxone) 12/20 - 3/19/24.

Agate, I had thought of canceling, but it throws the girl's schedule off who does my nails, and I hate doing that to her. She automatically books me for that time every 3 weeks and I hate to mess that up. I think I will go out to the car and start it up and turn the A/C on high and come back in the house. I will let it sit for awhile and just run the A/C and see if that helps any. At least it is not far from my house. But while I am out I do want to go to the grocery store so I will not have to bother with it again for awhile.

They have nails at the hardware store just down the road. I never have to make an appointment to get them.

Could try a trick I use for surfing. I rub ice cubes on my arms and legs, then put some in a baseball cap and put that on my head. it will get you into the a/c store. Bring a tiny cooler with it and then do the same when you leave to get into the hot car until the car A/c chills down.

Alternatively, pay the nail salon money for missing your appointment. You were going to pay her anyway. Does it matter what your fingernails look like?

Beauty routines mean a lot to a lot of women. Even when I was in the nursing home, the ladies would comments about their hair and nail appointments, and come back to show off what the manicurist had done. One lady had hers done every week, and would have "holiday nails"...red,white and blue, with stars!

Well, I do it because I have the gel nails. My own are very brittle and hard to keep. I finally got these about 8 to 10 years ago when I was going away for a special week-end and now I don't know how to get rid of them. Once you have them put on your own nails just really are in bad shape and since mine already did not do well, it would be a mess. Some day I will bite the bullet and have them taken off. I don't get anything funky done to mine, but it just means I only have to worry about my nails every 3 weeks. I also have a tremor so it would be hard for me to do my own nails. My left hand is especially bad which means my right hand would always look bad.

Gel nails, that's a new one on me! I guess I am way behind the times, is it a fake nail they glue on, like a tooth crown? I wonder if Biotin would help your nails?

:) Virginia I had my hair done and my nails today and grocery shopped. It was hot but I left windows cracked and parked in the shade. My nails are very thin and were breaking into the quick and so I started getting acryllic nails every three weeks.

My neighbors kids stole the mangoes that had started to ripen off my front mango tree. They had them in their hands in the street when I pulled in the driveway. When I see them out again I am going to tell them they are on my camera video and not to steal again. To knock on the door and ask to pick some.

Our board is like Cheers and I am glad we have it. Stay cool everyone. Jeanie :)

Jeanie, you are my inspiration for going out tomorrow. I know it had to be hot today where you are.

BBS, gel nails are where they kind of roughen up the tops of your own nails and then put an overlay on top that is very hard. The problem is that by the time you have had gel nails for a long time they actually have filed your own nails so much that they are in bad shape.

Jeanie, when I started getting my nails done I asked if I should get the gel or acrylic like you have and the person doing them said that the acrylic would be even worse for my own nails than the gel. Since I had never had my nails done before I don't know. I think they are both so bad that it really doesn't matter.
