That gel.nail thing sounds downright ugly, over time. I never have been to a nail.salon. last time my nails were polished was 48 years ago on my wedding day...well, the day before. I have been to a beauty shop to have my hair cut, but have never colored it, never had a perm. Rarely wear make-up. Just not girly, never have been.

Ah, that's interesting Virginia. Are bad nails a reflection of some type of vitamin deficiency. I read that people taking Biotin also noticed their nails improved. It is a type of B vitamin.
I never had a manicure or pedicure because it looked painful, and it's boring enough sitting to get hair cut.

If I don't get a pedicure soon, I'll look like that Howard Hugh's guy!!!!Last edited by SalpalSally; 07-08-2016, 06:39 AM.Love, Sally

Sally, nursing homes usually have podiatrists on staff or retainer. And it's covered my Medicare. Ask.
Are you up for cyberchocolate w hot coffee in an airconditioned space?? Here we are!
BBS, Virginia, I take Biotin, the regular vitamin dose, because my hair is thining. It was recommended by my MS doc. It hasn't helped my hair but my nails grow fast.
Yesterday, I walked a mile and a half! Not on purpose. I went up to the main street for First Thursday. Businesses stay open late, there's music, farmer's markets, food trucks and art hung in all of the businesses. Also craft beer tasting and wine. I went because I needed something at CVS and had a 30% off coupon to share w Peter. We met and walked around. I met a Bermese Mountain dog. Zillions of little kids that I blame on the winter of 110.7" of snow.
At some point my knees locked and I needed to get home. We had just seen a bus pass. We went into a Grass Fed and I had a Burger in the Grass and fries w a veggie burger for Peter. After the food and rest we walked home. (Our car is in the shop). Knees and back feel that walk today.

That is so impressive, ANN! Walking a mile and a half is mighty spectacular, and managing to buzz around and do all that you did--you deserve a huge
WOW!As BBS and others like yourself are demonstrating, some things are worth doing even when the price is high.

Ann, what a feat that was. I can't imagine it. What was temperature and humidity? You are doing so well. Being a little sore today is understandable, but just knowing you can do it would make it worthwhile.
My nails are not gross or ugly underneath the gel nails. I know because when I have been careless and broken them I can see my real nail. They are just thin and brittle. They always broke very easily. Anyway, I went today and now I am set for another 3 weeks. No more bother with nails. I started having mine done short because I have never been able to type well with long nails and I have never been able to keep them. These at least look presentable and nice up until about 3 or 4 days before I go back.
I saw a lady in the nail spa today and I didn't know if I should laugh or cry. When she came in she signed in and started right away saying she wanted a pedicure. They told her there would be a 20 to 30 minute wait. With that she started and every 2 to 3 minutes she would look at one of the girls who work there and say something like "can you take me now?" Thinking she was a new customer I told her there were cards and brochures she could take home with her next time and get the phone number and call ahead. She said I do pretty much anything I like and I don't like to do that. I said well you can ask one of the girls which day is the least busy. She would get up and stand at the counter and start asking anyone who's attention she could get to take her then, that she didn't want to wait.
This lady was dressed pretty poorly. She had on very baggy pants, looked like men's bedroom slippers and pretty bad looking top. When my lady took me she said "you're going to take her before me"? My lady told her I always have an appointment. Anyway, I was feeling very sorry for this lady because I felt there was something wrong with her mind and she was old and could not walk well. The girl who does my nails told me she had been coming there for between 2 and 3 years and that she would not have any money. A couple of times customers paid for her because they were feeling the way I did. They finally started making her pay up front before they do her pedicure. I said could she have alzheimers or something like that. She said no that this lady was very smart. This is a very upscale nail spa (not the reason I go there - it is close to my house and I have never been to another manicurist.) She told me where the lady lives and there must be 20 nail salons between her house and this place and yet she gets a taxi to take her there. Then she goes to Whole Foods which is very close and goes through the hot bar, gets food and just goes and sits at a table and eats without paying. Nail customers have seen her do it. She has two children but they do not go see her. I have never seen a more demanding person in my life. I wonder what she is like in a Doctor's office. My lady said that she use to come every week to get a pedicure and sometime she would show twice a week. Weird!!!Last edited by Virginia; 07-08-2016, 06:12 PM.Virginia

I had thunder for a long time, then the skies just opened up, and it POURED! It didn't rain very long, but it put plenty of water in the ground. Everything looks so green and pretty around here right now."Given the millions of billions of Earth-like planets, life elsewhere in the Universe without a doubt, does exist."
