Well, we all have concerns and burdens at the moment beyond what seems normal....it is good we have each other.
Makes me feel like I have little to complain about when compared to so many. We are lucky to have this place to come and connect.

We are indeed! MS before the Internet and this board was a mighty different situation. I got through a lot of recorded books while trying my hand at quilts, jigsaw puzzles, needlepoint, crocheting and knitting--but there was no one to talk to.

After about 22 years like that, I was really used to being isolated. The Internet has been like a breath of fresh air or a window to the world for me. When I found this board, I would often marvel at how these people were all REAL, really out there, really talking to one another--and sometimes even to me.

Joan, I am praying for your daughter and family that they are safe and won’t need to evacuate. These fires are terrifying.

Here in So Cal, there are several fires blazing. My heart goes out to all people in proximity to these fires, but especially to the people of Thousand Oaks, where the shooting occurred. I can’t even begin to imagine what they’re going through.

The fire has jumped over the 101 and is now threatening a large part of Malibu. Residents are evacuating their horses, as we’ve seen so many times before. A majority of the homes burning and in the line of fire are multi-million dollar properties. Wealthy folks like to build around open land for views and privacy. But the risks of losing their properties is immense, particularly with our severe drought.

The cloud plume for this fire is over 2 miles high. In some areas, it is black as night. People, who are attempting to evacuate are stopped in their tracks, because the visibility is too poor for safe driving. News helicopters cannot capture the fire through the black smoke and clouds and are hovering at over 7,000 feet. There is concern that pyrocumulus clouds may form.

There is another fire in Griffith Park, where the observatory is located. It’s burned over 30 acres, and animals have been rescued from the Griffith Park Zoo.

The Santa Ana winds are intense. On my walk this morning, I had to avoid felled branches and debris on the sidewalks. Several times a gust nearly pushed me over. Although we are a couple of hours driving distance from the Thousand Oaks fire, and about 40 miles from Griffith Park, I can smell fire. I can also see smoke on the horizon.

We live about 3 miles from an open preserve with very dry chaparral. Days like these make us nervous, although thankfully, we’ve only had two close fires in our 41 years here.

Hurricanes, floods, fires, earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanoes erupting. Sounds like Revelations is coming to fruition.

There are boxes all over the place, 80% filled. I had packed 25 a month or so ago. This past ten days I have packed 50 more. I realized the limiting factor was the taping of the boxes. You don’t realize but you use leg muscles to do this. So it was killing my legs with spasticity. Now I fill them and DH tapes them which has sped up the process.

Friday is the day the movers pack up the house, and whatever I haven’t packed up. Saturday is the physical moving according to the plan.

It will be great not to have so many barriers to daily tasks. A couple of friends will help unpack the kitchen and put down shelving paper.

This move has totally helped me realize how ill and disabled my body is. It’s like being in the twilight zone

Moving did that to me too--but congratulations on doing so many boxes!!!

Sunshine, you may have a disability, but you DO have friends. So glad you have got help and will have some help to set up your new kitchen. So important. Also, DH is really being good about helping and telling you that your job is to take care of you. Remember that. You are almost HOME!

Howie, it is suppose to get to 29 here tonight. I don't know about you, but I would think it would not differ too much.

By the way, did you read about the man who is traveling around Australia with his cat. He gave up his IT job in 2014 and he built a Volkswagen van and he and his cat a have been traveling since then. He says his cat "Willow" doesn't mind as long as they are together. He takes her out every day and she doesn't wonder off away from him. He says he has to have play time with her every day or at 3A.M. it is holy hell to pay, because she is ready to play. Interesting.

Cats rule the world. Once you accept that, you can do anything, as long as you do it with your cat!

Realizing the truth of your condition is a tough moment in our journeys with illness. My husband does not acknowledge the reality of his situation and that puts a lot of extra work on everyone around him. Best of luck in your new home.

Checking in to say my daughter and family are safe, the fire hasn't headed their direction and power came back on yesterday. She said the temperature got down to 17 degrees but they have a wood stove, so were fine. I'm very thankful the wind did not blow in their direction.
My heart goes out to those who lost everything. Paradise was a beautiful town that attracted lots of retired people. My daughter had encouraged us to move there to be closer to her and my brother was hoping to move there upon retirement. He has a friend whose entire family had relocated there and every one of them lost their homes. They are devastated.

Thank you all for your concern. The fire threat is multiplied tenfold by the wind and the past year has had more wind than I can recall in my years of living in CA.
